'Unless' vs 'As long as': What's the difference? English In A Minute

Let's have a look at some example sentences:

I will go to the party if you come too.

I will go to the party if you come too.

I will go to the party as long as you come too.

당신이 오는 한 나는 파티에 갈 것입니다.

Both of these sentences have the same meaning.

이 두 문장은 모두 같은 의미를 가지고 있습니다.

Notice that the verb after 'if' and 'as long as' is positive.

'if'와 'as long as' 뒤의 동사는 긍정적입니다.

Now look at these sentences:

이제 다음 문장을 보세요.

If you don't do your homework, you can't watch the film.

숙제를 하지 않으면 영화를 볼 수 없습니다.

Unless you do your homework, you can't watch the film.

숙제를 하지 않으면 영화를 볼 수 없습니다.

Both of these sentences have the same meaning.

이 두 문장은 모두 같은 의미를 가지고 있습니다.

But notice that the verb after 'if' is negative

그러나 'if' 뒤의 동사는 부정

and the verb after 'unless' is positive.

이고 'unless' 뒤의 동사는 양수입니다.
