Today we're going to be looking at two words

that will really help your English pronunciation

They look the same,

First, I'll say the sentence quickly.

What words go in these two blanks?

Well, the answer is

‘Let's present the present to him.’

'চলুন তাকে বর্তমান উপস্থাপন করা যাক.'

Oh No! They look like the same word.

ওহ না! তারা একই শব্দ মত চেহারা.

Again, It's pronunciation  that's really important here.

আবার, এটি উচ্চারণ যা এখানে সত্যিই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

It changes the meaning.

এটি অর্থ পরিবর্তন করে।

Let me explain in more detail.

আমাকে আরো বিস্তারিত ব্যাখ্যা করা যাক.

Let's take a closer look at our two words.

আসুন আমাদের দুটি শব্দ ঘনিষ্ঠভাবে দেখুন।

We have ‘present’ and ‘present’.

আমাদের 'বর্তমান' এবং 'বর্তমান' আছে।

They're spelt the same way,

তাদের বানান একইভাবে,

but the pronunciation and  the meaning is different.

কিন্তু উচ্চারণ এবং অর্থ ভিন্ন।

It's what we call a ‘Heteronym’.

এটাকে আমরা 'Heteronym' বলি।

What is a ‘Heteronym’?

একটি 'Heteronym' কি?

It's where two words are spelled the same way,

এখানে দুটি শব্দ একইভাবে বানান করা হয়,

but the meaning and the  pronunciation is different.

কিন্তু অর্থ এবং উচ্চারণ ভিন্ন।

Let's look at the meaning and  pronunciation of our first word.

আসুন আমাদের প্রথম শব্দের অর্থ এবং উচ্চারণ দেখি।

‘present’

'বর্তমান'

‘present’ is a verb.

'বর্তমান' একটি ক্রিয়া।

It means to give or reward  formally or in a ceremony.

এর অর্থ আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে বা একটি অনুষ্ঠানে দেওয়া বা পুরস্কৃত করা।

And I have two sentences to show you.

এবং আমি আপনাকে দেখানোর জন্য দুটি বাক্য আছে.

The first one,

প্রথমটি,

‘I like to present awards to my students.’

'আমি আমার ছাত্রদের পুরস্কার দিতে পছন্দ করি।'

I like to give my students awards.

আমি আমার ছাত্রদের পুরস্কার দিতে পছন্দ করি।

The second sentence,

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য,

‘A celebrity will present the prizes.’

'একজন সেলিব্রিটি পুরস্কার উপস্থাপন করবে।'

A celebrity will give you your prize.

একজন সেলিব্রিটি আপনাকে আপনার পুরস্কার দেবে।

Now repeat after me.

এখন আমার পরে পুনরাবৃত্তি করুন।

'বর্তমান' এখন আমাদের দ্বিতীয় শব্দ

Now let's have a look at our second word,

'বর্তমান'

‘present’.

দেখে নেওয়া যাক ।

‘present’ is a noun.

'বর্তমান' একটি বিশেষ্য।

It means a gift something  that you give to someone.

এর অর্থ একটি উপহার যা আপনি কাউকে দেন।

And I have two sentences to show you this.

এবং আমি আপনাকে দেখাতে দুটি বাক্য আছে.

‘Thank you for the wonderful present.’

'অপূর্ব উপহারের জন্য ধন্যবাদ।'

Thank you for this wonderful gift

আপনি আমাকে দিয়েছেন যে

that you have given me.

এই চমৎকার উপহার জন্য আপনাকে ধন্যবাদ

Number two,

. দুই নম্বর,

‘I didn't get a present for my birthday.’

'আমার জন্মদিনে উপহার পাইনি।'

I didn't get a gift for my birthday.

আমি আমার জন্মদিনের জন্য একটি উপহার পাইনি.

No one gave me anything.

কেউ আমাকে কিছু দেয়নি।

Okay, let's have a look at pronunciation,

ঠিক আছে, আসুন উচ্চারণটি দেখুন,

‘present’.

'বর্তমান'।

‘present’.

'বর্তমান'।

Okay, let's look at our  main sentence one more time.

ঠিক আছে, আসুন আমাদের মূল বাক্যটি আরও একবার দেখি।

‘Let's present the present to him.’

'আসুন তার কাছে বর্তমান উপহার দিই।'

Let's ‘present’, let's give,  the ‘present’, the gift, to him.

আসুন 'উপস্থাপনা করি', আসুন, 'উপস্থিত', উপহার, তাকে দেওয়া যাক।

Okay, repeat after me.

We'll go slowly first,
