What words go in these two blanks?

이 두 빈칸에 들어갈 단어는 무엇입니까?

Well, the answer is

글쎄요, 대답은

‘Let's present the present to him.’

'그에게 선물을 선물하자' 입니다.

Oh No! They look like the same word.

안 돼! 그들은 같은 단어처럼 보입니다.

Again, It's pronunciation  that's really important here.

여기서도 정말 중요한 것은 발음입니다.

It changes the meaning.

의미가 바뀌네요.

Let me explain in more detail.

좀 더 자세히 설명하겠습니다.

Let's take a closer look at our two words.

두 단어를 자세히 살펴보겠습니다.

We have ‘present’ and ‘present’.

'현재'와 '현재'가 있습니다.

They're spelt the same way,

철자는 같지만

but the pronunciation and  the meaning is different.

발음과 의미가 다릅니다.

It's what we call a ‘Heteronym’.

우리는 이것을 '헤테로니모(Heteronym)'라고 부릅니다.

What is a ‘Heteronym’?

'이종명'이란 무엇입니까?

It's where two words are spelled the same way,

두 단어의 철자는 같지만

but the meaning and the  pronunciation is different.

의미와 발음이 다른 경우입니다.

Let's look at the meaning and  pronunciation of our first word.

첫 번째 단어의 의미와 발음을 살펴보겠습니다.

‘present’

'현재'

‘present’ is a verb.

'현재'는 동사입니다.

It means to give or reward  formally or in a ceremony.

공식적으로나 의례를 통해 주거나 보상한다는 의미입니다.

And I have two sentences to show you.

그리고 보여드릴 문장이 두 개 있습니다.

The first one,

첫 번째,

‘I like to present awards to my students.’

'나는 학생들에게 상을 주는 것을 좋아한다.'

I like to give my students awards.

나는 학생들에게 상을 주는 것을 좋아한다.

The second sentence,

두 번째 문장은

‘A celebrity will present the prizes.’

'연예인이 상품을 증정합니다.'입니다.

A celebrity will give you your prize.

유명인이 당신에게 상을 줄 것입니다.

Now repeat after me.

Now let's have a look at our second word,

‘present’ is a noun.

'현재'는 명사입니다.

It means a gift something  that you give to someone.

누군가에게 선물로 주는 것을 의미합니다.

And I have two sentences to show you this.

그리고 이것을 보여드릴 두 문장이 있습니다.

‘Thank you for the wonderful present.’

'멋진 선물을 주셔서 감사합니다.'

Thank you for this wonderful gift

나에게 주신

that you have given me.

이 놀라운 선물에 감사드립니다

Number two,

. 두 번째,

‘I didn't get a present for my birthday.’

'생일 선물을 못 받았어요.'

I didn't get a gift for my birthday.

생일 선물을 못 받았어요.

No one gave me anything.

아무도 나에게 아무것도 주지 않았습니다.

Okay, let's have a look at pronunciation,

자, '현재'

‘present’.

의 발음을 살펴보겠습니다

‘present’.

. '현재의'.

Okay, let's look at our  main sentence one more time.

좋아요, 우리의 주요 문장을 한 번 더 살펴봅시다.

‘Let's present the present to him.’

'그에게 선물을 선물하자.'

Let's ‘present’, let's give,  the ‘present’, the gift, to him.

그 사람에게 '선물', '선물', 선물을 주자.
