How to Pronounce REALLY -- American English Pronunciation

In this American English pronunciation video,

we're going to go over

the pronunciation of the word 'really'.

This week's word of the week is 'really'.

This is a two syllable word

with stress on the first syllable.

DA-da, really.

Another acceptable pronunciation is to make

this a three syllable word re-a-lly

where you add a middle syllable the schwa.

Re-ally, re-a-lly.

It begins with the R consonant sound

as the beginning R you will have

quite a bit of rounding in the lips. r, r.

And your tongue will pull back and up

for that R position, r.

Tongue tip shouldn't be touching anything.

The vowel in this syllable is

the EE as in SHE vowel, rea-.

So your tongue will come forward

so the tip will press behind the teeth here.

And the front part of the tongue will stretch

up towards the roof of the mouth, rea-.

The corners of the lips

may pull a little wide. rea-.

The second syllable begins

with the L consonant sound,

so the tongue tip will come

to the roof of the mouth, real-.

Then we have again the EE as in SHE vowel.

So tongue tip down,

front part stretching towards roof

of the mouth and the corners pulling wide.

really, really.

You will hear some native speakers

make the first vowel sound,

the IH as in SIT vowel,

relaxing the EE as in SHE, rea-lly, rea-lly

I know I myself do that sometimes,
