Remember with 3-way English. I will be telling you a story three different ways

first in a very basic simple way and then twice more in

Increasing difficulty the idea is to help you learn English vocabulary and grammar in

Context through imitation and repetition

Today's story will use grammar and vocabulary related to restaurant English dining out

So here's our first time through

Simple present tense only very few idioms or phrasal verbs

Basic vocabulary and I'll be speaking slowly with no contractions

Today I eat in a restaurant with my friend Jim

Jim orders pasta with cream sauce and I order chicken curry with rice

The waiter asks if either of us wants salad

Jim says no, but I say yes

The waiter asks what salad dressing I want and I say I want vinaigrette

The waiter asks if we want anything to drink

Jim orders iced tea and I ask or a soda. I

Have to ask for a new fork because the fork I have is a little dirty

Apologizes and quickly brings me a new fork

During the meal I am happy with my food, but Jim thinks his cream sauce is a little bland

He adds salt and pepper to improve the taste

After we finish eating the waiter asks if we want anything for dessert

Because we have a meeting. We asked him to bring us the bill

We asked him for two bills so that each of us can pay

separately

Well, Jim, and I leave the waiter a good tip because his service was very good

Then we leave to go to our meeting

Ok now let's do it the second time through this time

I'll use more contractions and some different verb tenses

Especially simple past and there will be greater variety of verbs and other vocabulary

The overall English level will be a little bit higher for the second time

Today I ate at a local restaurant with my friend Jim

He ordered pasta with cream sauce and I got chicken curry with rice

The waiter asked if either of us wanted salad

Jim didn't want any but I got a salad with vinaigrette dressing

To drink Jim got an iced tea while I asked for a soda

Unfortunately, I had to ask for a new fork because the one I had was a little dirty

The waiter apologized for it and brought me a new fork right away

During the meal I was pretty happy with my food. But Jim thought his cream sauce was a little bit bland

He had add salt and pepper to improve the taste

After we finished the waiter asked if we wanted anything for dessert

Because we both had a meeting to get to we asked him to bring us the bill

We asked him to split the bill so we could pay separately

Both of us left the waiter a nice tip because he did a pretty good job for us

After we left the tip we left to get to our meeting

Okay now the third time through and for this one, I'll introduce more complicated sentence

And it will be near native level use of vocabulary and the speed will be a bit faster

Okay, so here we go

Today my friend Jim and I enjoyed a meal at a nice local place

He got pasta with cream sauce, and I had some chicken curry with rice

Our waiter asked if either of us wanted salad Jim didn't but I got a chef's salad with the house vinaigrette

Jim asked for a nice tea to drink and I ordered a soda

One drawback to the meal was with the silverware the fork

They gave me was a little dirty so I had to ask for a clean one

The waiter was very apologetic about this and brought me a new one pronto

As for the meal itself, I was pretty happy with my order but Jim's green sauce was a little bit on the bland side

He seasoned it up with some salt and pepper and that did the trick not too big a deal

Afterwards the waiter came up and asked would either of you care for any dessert

It was tempting, but we had a meeting to get to so I just said the check, please

He asked if we wanted it together or separate checks, and we got separate checks

Both Jim and I left the later a nice tip because he did a pretty good job

The dirty four wasn't his fault and the food was pretty good

We dropped a few bucks on the table for him and hurried out to get to that meeting the end
