In a Week, On a Weekly Basis & Other Expressions with WEEK - English Vocabulary

focus on different expressions with the word  "week." Let's see how well you understand.

Here's the first question. Did you  know that I take piano lessons?  

여기 첫 번째 질문이 있습니다. 내가 피아노 레슨을 받고 있다는 걸 알고 계셨나요?

I do. I take them every other week. Every  other Thursday to be exact. So, let's say

this month there are four Thursdays. How  many lessons will I have? Two or four?

Two lessons. Right? Every other week  means that you skip a week in between.

Second question. If I tell my friend Katie,  

두 번째 질문입니다. 친구 Katie에게

"I'll see you in a week," what does that mean?  Will I see Katie one time within seven days,  

"일주일 후에 보자"라고 말하면 무슨 뜻인가요? 7일 이내에 케이티를 한 번 볼 수 있나요?

or will I see her after seven days  have passed? I'll see you in a week.

아니면 7일이 지난 후에 볼 수 있나요 ? 일주일 후에 뵙겠습니다.

It means after seven days  have passed. Then I'll see her  

7일이 지난 후를 의미합니다 . 그러면 일주일 후에 그녀를 볼 수 있을 것입니다

in a week. In two weeks, in three weeks. It  means after that amount of time has gone by.

. 2주 후, 3주 후. 그 정도의 시간이 지난 후를 의미합니다.

And remember not to use "in" when you  talk about "this week." You don't say,  

그리고 '이번 주'에 대해 이야기할 때 'in'을 사용하지 마세요 .

"I'll see you later in this week." We  say, "I'll see you later this week."

"이번 주 후반에 뵙겠습니다."라고 말하지 않습니다. 우리는 "이번 주 후반에 뵙겠습니다."라고 말합니다.

Third question. Sometimes I meet with  a private student on a weekly basis.

What does that mean? Does it mean I meet  with a student one time each week? Does it

mean more than once each week? Or does it  mean every other week? On a weekly basis.

매주 한 번 이상을 의미합니까? 아니면 격주를 의미하나요? 매주.

It means once a week. On a weekly  basis means every week, weekly.

일주일에 한 번이라는 뜻입니다. 주간 기준이란 매주, 매주를 의미합니다.

Okay. Fourth and last question.  What's the difference between  

좋아요. 네 번째이자 마지막 질문입니다.

"next week" and "the following week"? If today  is June 2 and I'm going to see you on June 9,  

'다음 주'와 '다음 주'의 차이점은 무엇인가요? 오늘이 6월 2일이고 6월 9일에 뵙게 된다면

do I say, "I'll see you next week"  or "I'll see you the following week"?

'다음 주에 뵙겠습니다'라고 할까요 아니면 '다음 주에 뵙겠습니다'라고 할까요?

June 9 is next week. We use "next" and "last"  when we're speaking in real time, that is,  

6월 9일은 다음주입니다. 우리는 실시간으로 말할 때, 즉

when we're referring to the current time. Next  week, last week...that's relevant to today.

현재 시간을 언급할 때 '다음'과 '마지막'을 사용합니다. 다음주, 지난주...오늘과 관련이 있습니다.

In contrast, if I'm talking about 1999 or 2099,  I can no longer use the word "today." Instead,  

반대로 1999년이나 2099년을 말하는 경우 더 이상 '오늘'이라는 단어를 사용할 수 없습니다. 대신

I'll have to choose a date, past or present,  and refer to it as "that day." Then I can talk  

과거 또는 현재 날짜를 선택 하고 '그날'이라고 언급해야 합니다. 그러면

about the following day, the following week,  the following year, or the previous year, the  

다음 날, 다음 주, 다음 해 또는 전년도,

previous month. I can say: the previous week, the  week before, the previous year, the year before.

이전 달에 대해 이야기할 수 있습니다. 전주, 전주, 전년도, 전년도라고 말할 수 있습니다.

We're talking about a sequence.

우리는 시퀀스에 대해 이야기하고 있습니다.
