Conversation Skills: Softening Your Speech 😊 Master the art!

Hi everyone. In our previous lesson, we talked about agreeing with others, even when we don't really want to.

皆さんこんにちは。 前回のレッスンでは、本当は同意したくなくても、他の人に同意することについて話しました。

Sometimes, though, we need to express an opposite opinion, but we know it may not be received.

反対の意見を表明する必要がある場合もありますが、それが受け入れられない場合があることはわかっています。

Well, so it's better to soften or statement.

まあ、それで柔らかくするか、ステートメントにする方が良いです。

Modal verbs are very useful when we want to soften our speech.

モーダル動詞は、スピーチを和らげたいときに非常に便利です。

Instead of telling someone they made a mistake, we have the option of saying they could be wrong.

誰かに間違いを犯したことを伝える代わりに、彼らが間違っている可能性があると言うオプションがあります。

They might be wrong.

彼らは間違っているかもしれません。

There may be a mistake.

間違いがあるかもしれません。

Learn these useful ways to present an opinion if you don't want to sound forceful.

威圧的に聞こえたくない場合は、意見を述べる便利な方法を学びましょう。

We have other words to soften a statement.

声明を和らげる他の言葉があります。

There are times when we need to sound confident.

自信を持って発音する必要がある場合があります。

But there are also times of negotiation when we need to keep the peace,

so we use words like: kind of,

sort of,

just,

maybe,

seems like.

Consider these examples:

So compare the strength and tone.

This can sound clear and confident.

But it could also sound bossy, like my idea is the best idea and that's what we're going to do.

Compared to: I kind of think that renting a car would be better for us.
