English Pronunciation - I & EE

Hey guys, this is Alex. Thanks for clicking and welcome to this pronunciation lesson on

two sounds that give many, many new English speakers problems. Now, these two sounds are

"ee" and "ih". So we have a list of words, a lot of them with the "ee" sound and the

other half having the "ih" sound. So how you make these sounds is when you're making the

"ee" sound, imagine that you're smiling, basically. So you're saying "ee", "beet", "beet". When

you're saying "ih", the "ih" sound, your tongue is behind your teeth, okay? And it's touching

the bottom of your teeth. "Ih", "ih". It looks silly, but just practice it. "Ih", "ih". So

this is "beet", imagine like you're smiling, "ee", "beet", and this is "ih", "bit", "bit".

So remember, put your tongue behind your bottom teeth, okay? The tip of your tongue touching

your bottom teeth. So let's just practice. So listen and repeat, along with the video.

"Beet", "bit", "beet", "bit". Okay, so again, if you're having trouble, very, very important

for the "ih" sound to remember to put the tip of your tongue behind your bottom teeth.

So we're going to go through the list of words. First, let's just practice the "ee" sound,

okay? So just remember, like you're smiling, "ee", "eat", "heat", "sheep", "seat", "feet",

"heel", "reach". Okay, so again, if you'd like to pause the video at this time and just

read through these words one more time on your own, I more than encourage that. Now

that you've practiced these sounds, let's practice the "ih" sound. Now, most new English

speakers have more problems with this sound than they do with this sound. So let's go

through it together. So again, and not "eat", this is, listen and repeat, "bit", "hit",

"ship", "sit", "fit", "heel", "reach". Okay, now, if you want to pause the video at this

time and just go through the words, I definitely encourage you to do that. Now we're going

to go through the complete list of words, and we're going to go one and the other. So

just listen and repeat. Remember, smile, "ee", "it", put your tongue down behind your bottom

teeth, "it". Listen and repeat. "eat", "bit", "heat", "hit", "sheep", "ship", "seat", "sit",

"eat", "fit", "heel", "hill", "reach", "rich". Okay, now, practice, practice, practice. This
