English Pronunciation - A & E (Man vs. Men)

Hey, this is Alex, thanks for clicking, and welcome to this pronunciation lesson on two

common sounds that are often confused, like man, an, and men, en, so eh and eh.

The difference between making the two sounds with your mouth is almost like how wide your

mouth is.

So, here, if you say the word man, and you hear that eh, eh, your mouth is wide open.

Here, if you say men, en, en, eh, eh, eh, this one is eh, this one is eh, eh, eh.

So one is long, and one is shorter.

So as you listen, I want you to just listen and repeat with the video to practice these

sounds.

Listen and repeat.

Men, men, land, lend, band, bend, tan, ten, an, Emma.

Okay, so we're going to go through the list just one more time.

Again, I encourage you at any point in this video to stop, pause it, look at the words,

and see if you can make a distinction, if you can tell the difference between the two

sounds, and try and make them yourself.

So again, let's practice one more time, listen and repeat, and see if you can hear the difference

and make the difference sound with your mouth.

So again, this is not Emma, this is not an, this is an, not an, this is Emma, not Amma.
