Improve Your Vocabulary: Use Advanced Words instead of Simple Words

Today we gonna learn 12 advanced English words so that you can use to sound more natural. 

Hoy vamos a aprender 12 palabras en inglés avanzado para que puedas usarlas para sonar más natural.

One of the best ways to sound fluent is to use advanced words instead of simple words.

Una de las mejores maneras de sonar fluido es usar palabras avanzadas en lugar de palabras simples.

Let’s practice changing some  simple words with an adverb “very” 

Practiquemos cambiar algunas palabras simples con un adverbio "muy"

into advanced words

en palabras avanzadas.

The first one is very nice. 

La primera es muy agradable.

Instead of saying very nice you  can simply say amazing or awesome 

En lugar de decir muy bien, simplemente puedes decir increíble o increíble.

You can say: ‘That’s amazing” or "That’s awesome"

Puedes decir: "Eso es increíble" o "Eso es increíble".

The second one is very good. Instead of saying "It’s a very good movie" 

La segunda es muy buena. En lugar de decir "Es una película muy buena"

you can say "exceptional" "It’s an exceptional movie"

, puedes decir "excepcional" "Es una película excepcional". El

Number three is very funny. You can say – hilarious.  Hilarious means extremely  funny, merry and cheerful. 

número tres es muy divertido. Se puede decir - hilarante. Hilarante significa extremadamente divertido, alegre y jovial.

Number - 4 Instead of saying very badyou can say dreadful

And you probably know the word ‘awful’ That’s another one you can use.

Y probablemente conozcas la palabra "horrible". Esa es otra palabra que puedes usar.

Number 5. Very scared.

Número 5. Muy asustado.

Instead of saying "I am very scared"  it’s better to say “I’m terrified”.

En lugar de decir "Tengo mucho miedo ", es mejor decir "Estoy aterrorizado".

Number 6 very new 

Número 6 muy nuevo

You can say brand new

Puedes decir nuevo

Number 7 - very beautiful. You can say "stunning" 

Número 7 - muy bonito. Puedes decir "maravilloso"

or "gorgeous'

o "hermoso"

Number 8 – very surprised 

Número 8: muy sorprendido

Instead of saying "I was very surprised" you can say "I was stunned".

En lugar de decir "Me sorprendió mucho" , puedes decir "Me quedé atónito".

Number 9 

Número 9:

very rich you can say Prosperous

muy rico , puedes decir Próspero

Number 10 Instead of saying "very angry" 

Número 10 En lugar de decir "muy enojado"

you can say "indignant" If someone is indignant, 

puedes decir "indignado" Si alguien está indignado

he is shocked and angry, because he  thinks that something is unjust or unfair.

, está conmocionado y enojado, porque piensa que algo es injusto o injusto.

Number 11. instead of saying "very loud"

Número 11. en lugar de decir "muy fuerte"

you can say "deafening". 

puedes decir "ensordecedor".

The word “deafening” means so loud that  it’s impossible to hear anything else.

La palabra "ensordecedor" significa tan alto que es imposible escuchar nada más.

Number 12- very important 

Número 12: muy importante en

instead of "very important" you can say “crucial” This word means extremely important or necessary.

lugar de "muy importante" puedes decir "crucial" Esta palabra significa extremadamente importante o necesario.

And now we are going to  practice what we've learned.

Let’s practice all these words in sentences

1. She is a very nice person to talk to. She is an amazing person to talk to.

1. Es una persona muy agradable con quien hablar . Es una persona increíble con quien hablar.

2. Getting up early is a very good habit. Getting up early is an exceptional habit.

2. Levantarse temprano es una muy buena costumbre Levantarse temprano es una costumbre excepcional

3. He made me laugh by telling a very funny joke. 

3. Me hizo reír contándome un chiste muy gracioso.

He made me laugh by telling a hilarious joke. 4.They told us very bad news. 

Me hizo reír contándome un chiste muy gracioso. 4. Nos dieron muy malas noticias.

They told us the dreadful news. or They told us the awful news.  

Nos contaron la terrible noticia. o Nos dijeron la terrible noticia.

5. He was very scared of losing his job. He was terrified of losing his job.

5. Tenía mucho miedo de perder su trabajo. Estaba aterrorizado de perder su trabajo.

6. We can afford to buy a new car We can afford to buy a brand new car

6. Podemos permitirnos comprar un auto nuevo Podemos permitirnos comprar un auto nuevo

7. The girl looks very beautiful in that dress! The girl looks stunning in that dress!

7. ¡La chica se ve muy hermosa con ese vestido! La chica se ve espectacular con ese vestido!

8. We were very surprised at  the results of the competition. 

8. Nos sorprendieron mucho los resultados de la competencia.

We were stunned by the results of the competition. 

Nos sorprendieron los resultados de la competencia.

Pay attention that we don’t  use the same prepositions here.

Preste atención a que no usamos las mismas preposiciones aquí.

We were very surprised at the results But We were stunned by the results

Nos sorprendieron mucho los resultados Pero nos sorprendieron los resultados

9. New York is a very rich city. New York is a prosperous city.

9. Nueva York es una ciudad muy rica. Nueva York es una ciudad próspera.

10. He became very angry when he lost the game. He became indignant when he lost the game.

10. Se enojó mucho cuando perdió el juego. Se indignó cuando perdió el juego.

11. The noise out in the street was very loud. The noise out in the street was deafening.

11. El ruido de la calle era muy fuerte. El ruido en la calle era ensordecedor.

12. She raised a very important  question at the meeting. 

12. Ella planteó una pregunta muy importante en la reunión.

She raised a crucial question at the meeting.

Ella planteó una pregunta crucial en la reunión.
