Native English Pronunciation Tips You Won't Learn In School

fluency guide and let's see if uh live chat is  working hopefully we should be live uh well we  

will get started and I'm guessing it will work  I have the new app installed and of course it  

there's always some new issue something going  on uh but it looks like we're live if you are  

in the chat uh feel free to post a comment  so I know that you're there and I know chat  

is working uh today we are going to be talking  about native English pronunciation tips uh I want  

to keep this very specific and very simple  because they're actually is a lot we could

cover uh and I also wanted to give  you just some examples of how I  

regularly speak so nice to see everybody  there chat is working good to see all

right okay uh so when we talk about Native  pronunciation uh this is different from how  

you would typically learn English in school and  this is even different uh how most people speak  

English in videos like this so there really are  two different kinds of spoken English there is  

this spoken English right now I'm using my I just  call it my teaching voice nice to see everybody  

there here nice to see everybody uh hello  everybody nice to see look at you guys all all  

joining me thank you very much it's a pleasure to  be joined by you again uh I'll go back and check  

chat uh but I want to make sure I get through all  of this it shouldn't be that long of a video today  

maybe I will uh get a lot more questions later  uh but hopefully you guys enjoy this uh so uh  

as I was just mentioning there really are two  different kinds of uh spoken English you have  

the kind of spoken English where I'm speaking  right now even if I speak a little bit faster  

I'm speaking more clearly and I'm speaking a  bit more slowly than I normally speak and I'm  

also using uh really less slang idioms that kind  of thing uh phrasal verbs even uh that you would  

find in conversational speech so usually what I do  when I'm helping people learn is I start them off  

with this kind of English and then we move them  up in steps by exposing you to more of the kind  

of English that we have in real conversations so  in this video we're going to talk about a few of  

those just some very basic things about Native  pronunciation uh that you can start using today  

and it will help you sound much more native and  remember even if you don't speak like a native  

these tips will help you understand natives  much more easily all right so let me go back  

through chat right quick before we get started uh  let's see George is over there and I'm guessing

and to see you again sir uh can you provide me  pronunciation rule uh yes so one thing I'm not  

going to cover in this video is like all of the  different ways to pronounce individual sounds  

because that's already done and waiting for you  in Frederick so if you don't have that app already  

just click on the link in the description below  this video uh and you can find that so Frederick  

will teach you how to make all the the all the  different sounds of English so you will learn  

the different letter combinations uh like you  might have like a word like uh p k or p a k so  

the letters are different but the pronunciation  is the same and Frederick will take you from the  

alphabet all the way to difficult things like  synthesis and apocalypse uh things with silent  

letters in but you will learn over 2,000 words and  sentences in the app so just click on the link in  

the description to download that we will not be  talking about individual sounds I really wanted  

to give something much more basic and easy for  people just to start using in their conversations  

today so hopefully you guys enjoy that now I  thought there are really many different pieces  

of native pronunciation that we could cover but I  wanted to talk about just three different things  

in particular one uh really to keep this simple  but also I don't want to give you just too much  

information we want to focus on three things we're  going to talk about the past make sure this fits  

in here the past uh the future is pretty easy or  the present is pretty easy so we're not really  

going to talk about that we'll just note it up  here though so the present and then the future  

so today we are really going to focus on talking  about things in the past and things in the future  

the way natives describe them or the the way  natives uh really pronounce their words or blend  

their sentences together and really eliminate  things in conversations so the most basic one  

for talking about the past actually even before  that um so you already know about this this is

a pronunciation that everybody knows this is  just a regular taking a word like I and then  

am and then we blend that together to make I'm  I'm now this is something you can write this is  

very common everyday English people use this all  the time I'm Andrew I'm tired I'm hot I'm late so  

if you're talking about your name or whatever uh  we can say I'm and we're blending it like that uh  

but what you will often not learn in school are  things like what we say for the past and what we  

say for the future uh that we do not write these  things so you can write this this is perfectly  

fine for writing but you would not what I'm about  to teach you you do not use for the past and the  

future while writing so if you're talking about  things in the past so basically uh we talk about  

I was uh and we'll talk about the future in just  a minute but what you'll often hear natives say is  

eyes so instead of saying I was I was you'll  hear this Blended much faster as just eyes I  

was busy yesterday I was busy yesterday I was  busy yesterday I was busy yesterday I was busy  

yesterday so again we would not write this but  you will hear it so natives are speaking faster  

and this is the way we would really just in a  very simple way I would write it down like this  

just for you to just to just to see this so you  can see how it looks uh but it's almost like a  

contraction like we have I'm for the present  and eyes for the past all right remember you  

do not write this do not write this don't write  eyes doing something don't do that but remember  

you can use it in your regular conversations and  you'll also hear natives using this as well so I  

busy just like we would say I'm busy yeah I was I  was busy yesterday I'm sorry I was busy yesterday  

so there's nothing wrong with saying I was but  if you're wondering why natives are speaking  

a little bit faster they're blending things  together and they get eyes that's interesting  

eyes eyes busy so you will not find that in a  textbook because this is not correct English  

for writing uh but again you will hear this okay  so eyes busy now another version of this that  

we will also have is if you're thinking about  doing something like I was going to I was going

to so this is a very a very common thing when  you're talking about something in the past you  

thought about doing it but you didn't do it all  right so I was going to do something so I was  

going to play basketball I was going to watch  a movie I was going to do this so that was the  

plan but you did not so I was going to so if we're  going to take this and make it shorter all right  

you probably know going to becomes going to and  so we just take the same thing yeah I was going  

to I was going to I was going to watch a movie  I was going to watch a movie yesterday so if I'm  

speaking with my friends I'm speaking casually and  they say oh what did you do yesterday now they I'm  

I'm speaking it a little bit more slowly what did  you do yesterday uh but I I might say oh like yeah  

I I was going to watch a movie but I didn't so I  I was going to watch a movie but I didn't I was  

going to watch a movie but I didn't I was going  to watch a movie but I didn't all right so it's  

the same idea we're just making it shorter faster  and easier to say so natives we already know what  

we want to talk about so we just want to express  it as quickly as possible yeah I was going to do  

that but I didn't I was going to do that I was  going to do that but I didn't I GNA eyes GNA eyes  

GNA I GNA eyes GNA I GNA all right I good now I  don't want to give a whole bunch of things about  

the past uh I really just wanted especially this  all right now you can also take this like if you  

want to talk about uh a different person uh like  he's going to do something all right so instead of  

I was he was so he's going to he was going to go  like he was going to go somewhere but he didn't he  

was going to go he was going to go but he didn't  all right he's going to go but he didn't so you  

will hear this if you don't feel comfortable using  it immediately that's fine just remember the whole  

point is that you're really uh more prepared for  when you hear natives saying these things as well  

so when I'm when again I'm teaching these things  in these videos uh the way I'm speaking right now  

is a little bit slower easier and the vocabulary  is a little bit easier but this I want to just  

focus on how we pronounce things as we're blending  them the way we would normally speak all right  

so yesterday I was going to go to a party but I  didn't I was going to go to a party but I didn't I  

was going to go to a party but I didn't all right  everything uh makes sense so far hopefully see it  

looks like we got a few more comments over here  right good morning everyone Neils just got back  

all right uh Dan I am so happy to be here I from  haiting nice to see you Roberto could you speak  

more slowly to understand you please yes so we  will have some people uh that can understand maybe  

they have heard my speech a lot they have watched  many of my videos and they are used to the way I  

speak uh but some people maybe they need me to  speak more slowly so this is why I like to cover  

these different things so yesterday I was going  to so I had a plan to do something but I did not  

do that thing so yesterday I was going to go to  the park yesterday I was going to meet a friend  

yesterday I was going to whatever that thing is so  I was going to or last week I was going to but if  

we want to start smoothing this out to to say it  faster so to smooth out meaning we want to take  

these these like chunks of words and say them as  quickly as possible we want to smooth the whole  

thing out so that's a great phrasal verb for you  to smooth out so I was going to I was GNA I was  

GNA yeah I was going to do that but I didn't  I was going to do that I was going to do that  

but I didn't okay hopefully that makes sense all  right uh let's see says Drew Ohio or did you just  

wake up you got the yawning face over there Erin  nice to see there good evening yes it's going to  

be good evening good morning for some people app  school good morning M Points Creations sir it's  

more difficult for me to learn pronunciation  long words that's why I said you please sir  

yes again if you want to learn the pronun iation  of individual words get Frederick so that is in  

the uh description below this video just click  on that link uh and then you can learn how to  

pronounce all of these longer words like again  uh long words like education information uh or  

uh apocalypse as I mentioned earlier uh but we  start with learning the pieces of these things  

and then you learn all of the pronunciation in  order the same way natives do all right so if you  

learn that way you will learn the pronunciations  of words what we're really doing in this video  

is looking how words blend together you will hear  some of that in actually a lot of that in the app  

because you do hear sentences as well uh but this  really is taking it to a higher level the native  

level where people are actually really blending  their words into like it doesn't even sound like  

the same language anymore so I was going to sounds  a lot different than I was going to I was going  

to I was going to I was Guna all right uh let's  see famous Guna we can recognize it yeah happy  

to be here tonight says s nice to see you there  AFA let's see are you recommending us to learn  

through IPA or just listening over and over again  uh I I don't recommend the International Phonetic  

Alphabet if that's people are asking what that  is the IPA International Phonetic Alphabet uh a  

linguist or a teacher might want to know the IPA  uh and the reason is so you can look at different  

languages and know how to pronounce them but  native English speakers do not know the IPA  

if you ask people like hey do you know the IPA  they would they would just think that was a beer  

or something like India Pale Ale that more people  probably know that IPA actually a lot more people  

than the uh like International Phonetic Alphabet  uh but the reason I don't recommend that again I  

just mentioned natives don't know it but it's just  not necessary so if you're trying to learn only  

English rather than a whole bunch of different  languages just go directly to the English and  

this is a big thing I always recommend to students  like you don't want to put anything between you  

and the language so if you are trying to learn  English you don't want to use translations or go  

through your native language like learning English  as a second language you want to learn English as  

a first language you want to go directly to the  language because that's what's going to give you  

the certainty and confidence you need to speak  all right so that's uh for everything for grammar  

pronunciation learning vocabulary you want to  go direct to the language learn it as a first  

language so the International Phonetic Alphabet  again uh it would be helpful if you're trying to  

learn a whole bunch of languages at the same time  or if you're a linguist or something uh but if  

you're just trying to learn English and you have  you know like that's the only thing you want to  

do then uh I would just focus on that uh but the  the thing about like the repetition of learning  

pronunciation uh is you have to get naturally  varied review so this is what we do in Frederick  

this is what I do in all of my lessons really uh  but in Frederick you will learn pronunciation the  

same way natives do in order and then you will  just play games and practice it hearing it in  

different ways seeing words in different ways and  that will naturally teach you uh the pronunciation  

so you learn to speak and sound the same way  natives do all right so it's a very simple uh  

and it's designed the way your brain normally  works and likes to learn so hopefully that  

makes sense Nils I say this sentence directly I  was busy I feel more American yeah and and what  

what's interesting about this Nils and everybody  else is even if you say it slowly you still sound  

more native so you don't need to speak faster  to sound like a native speaker all right that's  

something that like people forget really that  they they're trying to speak very quickly you  

can even hear me right now the way I'm speaking  I still sound like a native speaker even though  

I'm speaking a little bit more slowly than I  would would normally so I was going to I was  

going to do that yesterday I was going to do that  yesterday I can say it quickly I was going to do  

that yesterday or I can say it slowly I was going  to do that yesterday yeah I I was I was going to  

do that yesterday and maybe I I can even like like  make it a little bit longer eyes eyes yeah I was  

going to do that yesterday like I was going to do  that but I don't want to say I was so I just say  

eyes yeah I I was going to do that yesterday I was  going to do that yesterday all right so remember  

the point is not to speak fast it's to learn the  way that natives smooth out their speech all right  

that's what we're going for so it's not it's not  really just being faster uh but when you do smooth  

out the speech you do get faster speech all right  let's see what else we have here abish uh by the  

way natives most of the time used going to in in  every their speech yes it's very common that's why  

I thought I would cover it here so especially if  like it's a longer there are always many ways to  

express things so I could say yes yesterday I had  planned on doing this but instead I did this other  

thing but that's just much more to say and it's  expressing the same thing in many more words so  

this is much easier I was going to do something  so I was going to go to a movie but I had to  

go to the Hospital instead so I was going to do  something and remember the way I'm teaching you  

here this is not about trying to learn a grammar  point it's just what vocabulary do we use in what  

situation so when we're talking about when we're  talking about having a plan but we don't do that  

thing all right so when we have a plan but we  don't do that thing these are the words we say  

so I was going to do that I had planned on doing  that but now I'm not all right so I was going to  

do something I was going to do it but I didn't I  was was going to do that but I didn't all right uh  

coat says have a good one Drew all right Daniel  could you explain you got me and I got you sir  

uh this just means I understand uh but again uh  it depends on the specific situation for these  

uh and if I say like you got me like uh I could  mean uh that I'm explaining to something like  

like you got me like do you understand what I'm  saying here and you're like yeah I got you so in  

that situation uh then it just means I understand  what you're saying but it could also mean uh hey  

I'm trying to surprise you with something uh I'm  like sneaking up behind you and you turn around  

it's like ah I found you I you got me you got me  okay so remember the the vocabulary itself doesn't  

mean anything it's the vocabulary in a situation  and this can mean uh individual words and phrases  

uh and like again it's it's not just individual  words but uh phrases as well I'm sorry I didn't  

say that correctly uh so even something like I  got you uh or you got me something like that it  

could mean many different things depending on the  situation so don't don't try to think about like  

what does this mean it's more what does this mean  for this situation or can we use these words for  

this situation okay hopefully that makes sense so  uh like I got you like also like I don't know if  

you're like falling or something and I'm about  to catch you I could use the same expression I  

got you uh armo says GNA is totally different  thing when becomes to be used in the American  

English do you know do you know uh yeah so again  this is this is the the way like a native uh  

speakers in the United States would pronounce  it this way and I think probably people in the  

UK would say something similar to that but this  is again another good reason reason why we get  

naturally varied review we had actually a member  of fluent for Life uh tell us yesterday like wow I  

I realized I'm I'm good at understanding American  speakers but not speakers from other places and  

that's why we have lots of different we get Irish  speakers and British English speakers you get  

exposed to lots of different Native English  speakers in the program because we want you  

to listen to these different people uh because  you will meet different people either online or  

hearing them on the radio or TV or something like  that so you will hear lots of different speakers  

and you should be prepared for that uh can I say  he's going to she's going to yep you can so again  

as I gave that example before so I was like he  or she or its all right so if I'm talking about  

like it's going to rain so yesterday like it was  going to rain if I'm talking about like I thought  

the weather was going to be rainy I thought like  oh no it's going to rain it's going to rain and  

this one I'm I'm I'm I don't even say the it it's  like it's like a TS like it's going to it's going  

to rain oh no it's going to rain it's going to  rain it's going to rain it's going to rain all  

right so even the the eye on its I just remove  that it's it's going to rain becomes it's going  

to rain it's going to rain and remember even if  I say this slowly it's going to rain oh no it's  

it's going to rain all right so we could talk  about that for the past or the future as well  

so let me actually talk about that uh since people  are asking uh about making sure making uh making  

sure that people can use this for both the past  and the future so we again uh usually have the I  

am or we have I will and the contraction that  you can use you will find this in regular uh  

written english's Isle aisle but it's often very  common to hear I'm GNA so I'm gonna I'm going

to the same way I'm going to do something I'm  going to and now we will take this so instead  

of I will and I'm going to and I I don't want  to do a whole lesson on like differences between  

these because you really should just hear  them in lots of different situations uh we  

do this influent for life so people if you  are a member uh you can search your index  

uh for differences between will and going to  and you will learn lots of those the natural  

automatic way uh but just for this example here  what you will often hear in conversations is

I'm isn't that interesting so I'm going to so  I am going to becomes I'm Inna yeah I'm going  

to do that I'm going to do that tomorrow I'm  going to do that tomorrow I'm going to do that  

tomorrow I'm going to do that tomorrow I'm going  to do that tomorrow I'm going to I'm and you will  

hear some people just say I'm I'm going to do  that tomorrow I'm going do that tomorrow but  

typically I'm I'm I'm going to do that tomorrow  is a little bit easier to understand uh and this  

is more common I'm going to yeah I'm going to do  that [Music] tomorrow would you like to go to the  

park no I'm sorry I I have to go uh you know  do something else but I'm going to I'm going  

to go to the park on Sunday I'm going to go  to the park on Sunday I'm GNA go to the park  

on Sunday I'm GNA go to the park on Sunday even  if I say it slowly I'm I'm I'm a I'm I'm a I'm a  

I'm a I'm a all right remember even if you are  not comfortable saying this it's okay but you  

should be prepared for this this is how natives  will be speaking and this is the way I speak when  

I'm normally speaking okay so if I'm talking with  my family friends other native speakers I'm going  

to do that tomorrow yeah I'm going to do that  tomorrow I'm GNA do that tomorrow I'm gonna do  

that tomorrow I'm GNA do that tomorrow I was going  to do that yesterday but I'm going to do that  

tomorrow instead I was going to do that yesterday  but I'm going to do that tomorrow instead I'm  

going to do that tomorrow instead I'm gonna do  that tomorrow instead all right any questions  

the chat got a little bit quiet so either you're  paying attention well or I'm or I'm losing people  

hopefully this Mak sense so I was or I'm going to  but remember this uh this meaning is like I was  

going to we're talking about a plan and then I'm  going to we're still talking about a plan but you  

will probably do that thing okay so you thought  about doing something that was the plan but you  

did not and here I'm going to do something that is  the plan for the future and probably you will do  

that can we have some more examples for I'm sure  now let me uh let me give you some more space up

here

oh no this black really stays on

here we'll get that later all right so

I'm going to all right it could be anything so  what are you going to do tomorrow and this is  

just a very common uh question and you will get  this from native every day you will hear this from  

natives every day because they are either talking  about what they did what they are doing or what  

they will be doing okay that's that's just life  and conversation so what are you doing tomorrow  

what are you doing tomorrow well I'm going to and  you could say will you can also use that if we're  

just talking about what's happening in the future  so I will or I'm going to do something and you can  

shorten this as just like I so tomorrow I'll clean  my room I'll clean my room I'll clean my room I'll  

clean my room and so all of these are the same  uh they don't mean anything different and even  

the contractions they don't mean anything the  Blended uh Speech it doesn't really it doesn't  

mean anything different it's just saying it  faster and smoother and again sounding more  

like a native all right so if I replace this with  I I'm it's the same thing so tomorrow I'm going  

to tomorrow I'm going to I'm going to go to the  park so just whatever the thing is go to the park  

or read a book or eat race it doesn't matter  okay and we're just I'm just trying to focus  

on like two simple constructions in this video so  you don't get overwhelmed trying to think about a  

whole bunch of things and this is very very  common all right so what are you going to do  

tomorrow uh I'm going to I'm going to go I'm going  to go to the I'm going to I'm going to I'm going  

to I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to go to  the park I'm going to go to the beach I'm going  

to play basketball I'm going to eat rice I'm going  to clean my uh clean my house I'm going to clean  

my house I'm going to clean my house I'm going  to clean my house I'm going to wash my car so  

usually like this point we it it's such a common  thing that people really make it short but this  

this stuff you notice like I'm trying to be more  clear because this could be anything so people  

don't know what I'm going to say so the pattern is  here and this is where the difference is because  

I'm going to go to the park I'm going to read a  book I'm going to eat rice so I'm explaining this  

and saying it a bit more clearly I don't have  to like make the whole thing super short okay  

so I'm going to do this I'm going to do that I'm  going to do this I'm going to do that I'm going to  

do that okay and this is another uh really just  simple uh and very easy tip to remember is that  

the the native pronunciation can come in pieces  like this so you don't have to try to pronounce  

like everything you could say yeah I'm going to  go to the the park I'm going to go to the park  

and you're still pronouncing these words the only  thing that might be a little bit different like  

if you're if you're saying like go duh the two  often becomes duh so we're pronouncing it faster  

uh but we're still saying it pretty clearly go to  the park go to the park so a native speaker would  

typically not say go to the park again because  like this construction here this is pretty common  

as well so go to do something go to all right so  I'm not gonna I'm not gonna do something yet so  

that's another way to say this as well so what  you are going to do or what you are not going to  

do so I'm not going to I'm not going to do that  I'm not going to read a book I'm not going to do  

that okay so I'm going to or I'm not going to I'm  not going to do that I'm not going to do that all  

right let's see here uh it used to be essential  for dictionaries now we can easily access audio  

sources yeah that's true and Bob says when you say  the eye your mouth open wide uh then you connect  

to the W and it sounds like I ww so finally the  phrase sounds like I was going to I was going  

to yeah and again it's like eyes eyes eyes going  to like eyes like you got two eyes like that so  

if you need to remember it like that like e ye s  like your two eyes yeah I was going to do that I  

was gonna do that eyes gonna eyes gonna I gonna  all right yeah so you can say I'm not gonna I  

gonna I'm not going to do that thing same thing  all right uh let's see says my student asked me  

yesterday about the difference between the word  as usual and as normal how are these different uh  

well again like I'm trying to think of a of a of a  in that situation usually we're talking about the  

same thing it's just regular like futui like it's  like just how it normally is uh we would use both  

of those things and they're both fine so this is  like the same break the same breakfast I eat the  

same as usual uh same same as normal uh like as  usual would be more common and this is a thing  

you can also do just checking by yourself so if  you do a Google search for something like as usual  

uh just put it in quotes you're look looking for  you know something like I'm just putting quotes  

around eyes or whatever uh but the same thing so  if I put quotes around this and just search that  

in Google I can see how many hits I get so how  many examples so as usual as usual would probably  

get more I would I would guess so as normal we'll  we'll probably get fewer hits all right but they  

mean the same thing so you would just say like  I normally do this or this is the thing I do as  

usual those are more the the constructions you get  but they they mean the same thing and again that's  

why we get naturally varied review because we want  to hear how things are used or see how things are  

used if we're just looking at the examples we want  to get that from many different sources all right  

we're observing you all right glad to hear uh okay  I think I answered that one again sh generally  

Native American people say for f not four yeah so  we again the same way we would take a two and make  

that duh like go to go to the park go to the park  go to the park we would pronounce it like that and  

so like go for a run like it go for a run go for  a run so to go for or is that getting too too weak  

see if blue is working better ooh look at that go  for so remember the the pronunciation is coming  

like to go for like to do something so I want to  go for a run so that's the reason I'm going to  

do something but you'll notice as Gans sham just  pointed out uh that the pronunciation is more like  

it's like fur gopher gopher and that's actually  like there's an animal in English called a

gopher uh you should probably just Google it and  you can see what it looks like it looks like kind  

of a squirrel with a short tail like a prairie  dog but a gopher and so this is a name we can  

we actually call some people work as a job called  a gopher and that means they go for by like get  

things for you so if you have a large company  maybe you have some gophers like hey can you go  

for some coffee so can you like go get that for  me okay so a person who is a gopher you might  

have like a gopher service isn't that interesting  so we take the regular English and because of the  

pronunciation it becomes something else but that's  kind of like a joke in everyday English all right  

so someone who works as a gopher they go for  getting things for other people all right uh  

another thing like a pronunciation tip I will  point out here uh is that native children they  

learn the language through the sound first  and then they learn to read so often native  

speakers like they're doing it the opposite of  what usually uh language students are doing so  

language students usually they begin by looking  at the text and they get some kind of translation  

from their native language and that's why it  makes it really difficult for them to learn  

regular pronunciation so you always always always  want to learn English as a first language if you  

want to understand Natives and speak fluently all  right look at that you guys get lots of tips over  

here lots of tips all right uh let's see let's  see as busy I feel more okay I think I answer that  

one already I'm scrolling too far back here all  right CA says hi Drew nice to be here on a live  

reason with you are you fully recovered yeah I'm  I feel pretty good I'm still drinking water Sun

all right let's see here we will continue all  right Nils again uh you know the song man like  

man I think I don't I can't speak so it's much for  my brain no no no I don't know I don't know what  

song that is that could be many different songs  let's see uh put that in Google see what it tells  

you uh says could you pronounce potty and party I  get a little confused uh when learning or saying  

these two sounds so potty in American English  potty potty potty potty and we have more of a  

D sound for the te's here so p d potty potty now  British English they would say like potty potty  

so they would actually pronounce the T sound uh  so that's an interesting thing a difference in  

American British American and British English  so we would pronounce it uh a little bit more  

smoothly than a British person would they would  say like it and it it like they actually like  

breaking up the Sounds in that way but American  English we want to blend them all together tyo  

yes it is live unless you're watching it later  than it is not okay uh so party and again this  

is the American American English pronunciation  party party party so we do see the a sound and

tomorrow all right you will often hear again  I showed you before about removing the eye  

off of this so instead of is he you will often  hear c c going to go C going to go C going to  

go too so it sounds like it's like the letter c  c c going to C going to go C going to go too so  

instead of is he see going to go to see going  to go to and you can often figure these things  

out you can find these Blends by yourself just  listening to natives but also you can think huh  

is is there a way for me to pronounce this and  it just sounds smoother and easier and faster  

so is he see going to see going to go see going  to go see going to go is he going to go too I'm  

going to the party are you going to the party  is he going to go to she going to go to the  

party too she going to go to the party too so I  don't even need like is she I just say she going  

to go she going to go I think in last week's  live I talked about uh removing a lot of like  

extra words from sentences um so as an example we  would often like in a textbook it will tell you  

or maybe the Eraser is bad I've got actually  two erasers today now the ink is just very

strong oh my goodness I needed like a I need  some strong muscles to get all this off here  

I'll have to save that for later so last week  we talked about like are you something and so  

if we're asking a question often we don't need  these words over here so are you going to do  

something I can just say hey going to come to  the party going to come to the party going to  

come to the party so I'm asking someone going  to come to the party instead of are you going  

to come to the party now remember uh these are  four more casual situations so if she is coming  

to the party she's a friend of mine someone I  know uh is she going to come to the the party  

she going to come going to do that okay or you  could say you going to do that she going to do  

that like is she going to come to the party but  often we can take things and you will you will  

notice natives speaking casually and they cut  a lot of these words they're just not necessary  

because we understand that they're that like it's  just a part of the pattern and we don't need to  

use it okay that is the reality there you go true  okay uh let's see all right I think I answer those  

questions uh is it the same rules with W yeah  so Gunna and W you will often find these I think  

there are lots of YouTube videos that cover GNA  and wna so I wanted to cover I wanted to cover I  

wanted to cover something a little bit different  uh but yes so if you want to say wna it's the  

same thing as uh want to so I am going to uh or  if you have to becomes have to you have to go I  

have to go I have to go and often like the the  strong H we don't say I have to go really the H

disappears I have to go I have to go I have to  go I have to to go I have to go I have to go you  

have to go you have to go so if I'm asking does  a friend of mine is a friend of mine leaving you  

have to go you have to go let's see uh okay all  right so I'm not going to wna I learned tenses  

yesterday and until now I so you'd say I'm still  confused with future perfect continuous function  

oh my goodness well that means like you you  probably learn those badly who was teaching  

you tenses oh my goodness yes try number one  you don't don't don't think about these like  

okay here's a tense and I need to learn it you  think about when do we say something so what  

are we talking about in the past or the present  or the future and just focus on one thing until  

you really understand that get lots of examples  this is what I call naturally varied review but  

you get lots of examples and that's how you start  using these things correctly when you can start  

using one thing then you move on to something  else okay so try try not to get uh get yourself  

too confused over there you know try to focus  on one thing uh let's see uh Tyle says online  

so yes well it is currently online yes I think so  yeah that it's it's it's a it's a weird question  

if people ask me if I'm live it should say live  right on the the YouTube video uh but if it's  

not live then it's not live because it's you're  watching the recording so it just depends on when

not today's topic but I saw you live so if  it's okay for you why do natives uh natives  

sometimes use a dash to separate ideas instead  of punctuation uh it depends sometimes people  

use the punctuation incorrectly or they're just  trying to put like a notice to something like  

like I I will do this when I write sometimes so  I will write something and then have a dash and  

then something else and then another Dash just  like I really want to make this separate or I'm  

talking about something and like maybe there's  like a small like yesterday I was going to the  

park and I wanted to do something else but like I  didn't have time uh and the park was fun so if I'm  

talking about something and then I get diverted  uh so I get maybe sidetracked so I'm thinking  

about something else and I want to add that or I  want to explain a little bit more that's why you  

will often see those all right uh a says is that  any tips uh to make can and can't sound clear uh  

often those come from the context so if you say  like uh yeah I can't do that tomorrow I can't do  

that tomorrow and and it's it's so it's uh it's  not just the words you hear but also the facial  

expression like yeah I can do that tomorrow I  can do that tomorrow or no I can't I can't do  

that tomorrow so they they sound similar I can and  I can't I can't I I can't we just don't pronounce  

the T again because we're blending things and  uh usually people can tell from the way we're  

speaking so yes I can do that tomorrow I can do  that no I can't I can't do that tomorrow I can't  

do that tomorrow okay so pay attention to the  whole situation not just the words people are  

saying and it will be easier to understand that  all right let's see she going to she going to

commonly covered on YouTube videos so would have  becomes w would must have becomes must and should  

have is like should so should could have would  have should have could have would have should  

have could have would have should have could  have would have Danny says I struggle with the  

letter I sometimes it sound is like a i uhhuh and  sometimes it's just normal I for example why the  

word native you say native but the word time you  say time all right uh well I I said I would not  

cover individual pronunciation but since people  are asking me about some some things like that

ah my I need like a power washer to get this off

[Music] here all right so when we learn  pronunciation uh and you can go through  

Frederick you can go through all of the levels  of that and learn things like this uh but there  

are different rules and it's pretty easy  to learn them if you learn them in order  

so if I just take a random thing like the  letter I uh usually we begin with the short  

vowel sound uh like the word is sip uh so we  can have a word sometimes uh where just like  

these short consonant vowel consonants this  is called the short I sound all right same  

sound in in CH I so CH H together becomes CH  in this word all right and so when you learn  

the uh the different rules for how these  things uh come in order like if we have  

a word like this is a magic ew uh and I think  the example you gave before where did that go

uh uh I no I don't know where that went okay  there it is yeah so you had uh like time so  

time is the same thing typically if we  have a word like this uh the E becomes  

silent and this goes from a short vow so a  short I sound to the long vow I sound so in  

this one we just say oh the letter says its  name like five or time or other words like  

that like spine same thing spine F so even  if it's not four letters we still have the  

same construction here so we call this magic  e or bossy e or last letter e or silent E uh  

and you will often have that construction and  then that sound but sometimes you will have  

words that break these sound rules so the  name of these rules this is called phonic

phonic and phonic covers about 84 %c  of the language and so people will  

get angry and say well phonic doesn't cover  everything well it's okay it doesn't cover  

everything but if you know phonics  you can know how to pronounce almost  

any word that is in common use and then  you learn a few extra words called site  

words so site words are just words that you  remember by site so uh like an example like

native so it looks like it should follow this same  rule but it does not all right right and often we  

learn these just by repetition we see them enough  native is a very common word you hear it a lot uh  

the same thing like love so love it looks like it  should be in this in this rule it should be like  

love something like that but we don't pronounce  it the same way uh and give and have and we see  

these words so often that we just remember them  uh just by seeing them even if they break the  

rulle okay but if you would like to learn those  and learn these common sight words like love and  

give and have and feel very confident about  pronouncing things just get Frederick you can

include in the conversation uh it's not it dep it  depends on who you speak with so if you speak with  

mostly like older people or professional people  there's probably a not not a lot of slang uh

be learning more slang or finding lots of new  vocabulary all the time so younger people are  

learning new vocabulary all the time creating new  words older people are just using the same words  

they've been using like After High School you just  keep that vocabulary all right magos says Hi man

like get it a little bit wet and it just cleans  all that stuff off some people actually use it  

on their teeth so I remember a TV show was like  don't it's a chemical don't use it on your teeth  

to to like clean the stains off of your teeth  but yeah it's a so if you're in Japan uh but I  

think there there you can probably find that it's  like a little white uh brick thing but it's a soft  

sponge and it will it cleans up uh whiteboards  very well all right yes nice to be the manager

you're listening for the pronunciation and you're  connecting that with the situation and think ah  

okay uh when you're talking about something  you planned on doing something in the past like  

yesterday I thought I was going to do something  I was going to I was going to yeah I was going to  

do this but uh then I did not so I was going to do  something and then I did not or in the future I'm  

thinking about doing something I have a plan to do  something I'm going to uh make pizza tonight I'm  

going to make pizza tonight all right so I'm going  to be I'm going to make pizza tonight I'm going to  

make pizza tonight you will hear I'm I'mma do that  but uh it's uh it's more commed here I'm GNA I'm

like y o u g l i s h and then you can hear a  word and hear how different people pronounce  

it uh so I would look at that if you want to hear  different pronunciations of words like that and  

then also hear if you're listening for longer  examples like if you have a famous speech or a  

famous song that's sung by different people like  listening to Beatles music that's performed by  

different people this will improve your listening  and automatically improve your pronunciation as  

well all right I think uh always the best class  to always look forward to this Live Well I'm glad  

to hear it uh I do I do enjoy making these I  haven't been able to do them like this month  

uh not doing them on Mondays uh it did like I just  wasn't available to do it then uh but next month I
