Learn English Late and Live - 2nd May 2018 - Royal baldness - school injuries - uses of 'spin''

here are two words that are commonly used in the English language and are

almost spelt the same but have completely different meanings the words

are import and impart the word import means to bring something in from another

place quite often from another area or maybe another country you import

something in computer terms import is to bring in a file from another computer

and you bring it into the computer that you're using and then there is impart

the word impart means to give out information you tell someone something

you give them information you impart information I'm going to give you some

information right now do you know what it is I'm sure you do it's just after 10

o'clock here in the UK it's a Wednesday night and this is late and live English

all the neighbours are asleep in their beds but one person has decided to stay

up late and live can you guess who that person is can you yes you're right

it's me hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today are you

okay I hope so are you happy well are you

happy I really really hope so here we go again it's Wednesday already

I feel as if this week has gone by very quickly I don't know why but this week

has gone you like that it's quick as a flash even so this week seems to be

going very quickly I have been so busy and this weekend can I just tell you now

I will warn you now that this weekend there will be no live English on Sunday

stop the clocks stop everything there is no live stream on Sunday because I have

so much to do so many things that need doing and to be honest with you there

aren't enough hours in the day hours I need more hours

I need 27 hours a day 24 isn't enough so that's what I'm having to do this

weekend I'm having to literally work until I drop this weekend which means

that I won't be able to do my livestream on Sunday and I am here today in my

clothing that I normally wear on Sunday so do you like that I've put my smiley

face on today because I won't be here next Sunday but I will be here of course

next Wednesday and of course you can catch me every Sunday when I am here you

will see all the details underneath right now for those who aren't sure so I

hope you're OK Oh can I just say tonight the weather

today has been very strange we had rain rain all morning it rained it didn't

stop until about two o'clock this afternoon and then suddenly the Sun came

out and everything was lovely would you like to have a look at the view tonight

so let's have a look at the view shall we here it is so here it is the view

with some nice music as well playing underneath it was quite nice tonight I

must say the weather today was very very mixed rain in the morning and sunshine

in the afternoon and there you can see the final moments of sunlight as the Sun

is about to set so there is the view tonight with some nice music as well

isn't that lovely and you can see now that all of the leaves are coming out

everything is starting to look very green finally I'm so pleased to see that

the leaves are starting to come out on the trees

now some leaves appear very early in a season whilst other trees and certain

bushes they don't show their leaves until much later and of course this year

everything is coming late in fact can I just say now that the blue tits and

great tits haven't even started building their nests yet they've only just

started doing it in fact much later than normal and even the black birds are now

feeding their young now normally black birds start breeding in late February so

you can see just how late everything is this year it's really late oh look at

that so there is another nice view you can see all of the different colors in

the distance you can see that the leaves have not yet come out on the trees but

you can see much era much closer that many of the trees

have now got their leaves including my lovely old apple tree can you see the

leaves coming out on the apple tree so even my lovely apple tree has started to

grow leaves for summer 2018 and oh who's that who's that over there what is he

doing who's that in my garden no oh it's me

taking away the clothes line it's a bit late now Jeremy the view was already

ruined you see so there's no point taking the line away now it's too late

the damage has been done let's just say so there it was the view tonight a

lovely evening a nice warm end to the day and

apparently this weekend it's going to get very very warm so it looks as if

once more summer is on the way we've had at least two full starts so when we say

false start it means we thought that was the start

but it turns out that it wasn't so already this year we have had two false

starts to the summer but this weekend we have been promised this weekend that we

are going to have a nice weekend and it's an extra long weekend because it's

a public holiday next Monday and as if that wasn't enough mr. Steve will be on

holiday with me next week so we are both having the week off bee curse and this

is the reason why everything is a little bit chaotic because I have a special

guest coming next week yes a special guest coming to stay here and I need to

prepare some things I'm also very busy at the moment

redecorating the kitchen that is still something that is on

going I haven't finished yet so there's still a lot of stuff to do to be honest

this is due to maybe some incidents that happened during the game that stopped

like people so some people are very introvert whilst some people are very

am a bit of both really so there are times when I'm very extrovert such as

during my live streams and there are times when I'm quite introvert and shy

and that's normally when I'm with people I don't know so if I go to a party and

there are lots of people there that I don't know I'm not familiar with I can

be very very shy and introvert isn't that strange I don't know why it just

happens to be a part of personality I guess why should they hire

you you can link their job responsibilities with an answer because

they have given in the job to strip description what they need from the

will need a person who is alert or interested in the job or maybe you have

some experience or maybe you have a hobby that involves aspects of the job

could you tell as the things or situations that make you shy how to

resist this feeling well sometimes you can't help being shy or you can't help

being a little timid so sometimes it is a thing that is a part of your nature so

sometimes it is not easy to fight it and sometimes it is best not to fight it so

it might cause conflict it might cause you to have problems with your own

personality or the way in which you view it so I I must be honest I find that my

my way of dealing with people tends to change depending on the situation so I

can stand up in front of hundreds of people and I can teach them and that's

not on the internet I'm on about in real life as well so I can stand in front of

people in a real situation and teach but when it comes to social situations if

I'm in a room with lots of people who I don't know I am terrible I can I can be

very very introvert so it takes a while normally for me to become relaxed it

takes a while for me to to become comfortable

in that situation so once I start talking to people I'm okay but it's

always those first moments when you arrive especially if you don't know who

the people are and I don't like that situation and I don't mind telling you

that I feel very awkward in those moments I certainly do mr. Duncan here

I'm acting what you see is me so nothing that you ever see is is pretend so I'm

not acting now this is still me it's just that when I'm in a situation where

I meet people for the first time I feel a little uncomfortable yes that's a very

good point Anna many actors despise their job they

are timid yes you will often find that people who are very extrovert certainly

if they are performers or actors or singers or maybe comedians in real life

they tend to be very shy very introverted

so it is strange so I've often thought that maybe my teaching style is my real

personality so I think this is what I'm really like and this is what I'm like

when I feel comfortable with people but if I don't feel comfortable with people

it's a very different situation altogether and if you are like that as

well there is nothing to be ashamed of it's it's normal many people tend to

feel awkward or uncomfortable in certain situations so there are many people who

can't do what I'm doing now so there are many people and I know this is true many

people who could never stand here in front of a camera

talking live to people on the internet but I can do it I don't know why I can

do it I have no reason no idea why I can do this

but for some reason when I do this I feel comfortable so yes it depends I

think it depends on the type of personality that you have to start with

also show that something was done in the past for a certain period of time in

this case we can use did I did yoga for a few months last year I did some

voluntary work last summer we use the word went when talking about

past movement or travel I went to Turkey for my holiday I went to visit my

friends in Scotland other words include ball

and have I always stay with my friends at Christmas I have always taken care of

myself I have always been keen on nature in these sentences we are showing that

the habit is still continuing it is still going on you have not stopped

doing it here is a good example of an English word that is often used

incorrectly the word paraphrase is one that is often misused

it is on occasion placed within a sentence by mistake to paraphrase

something means to change the wording of a sentence so as to make it clearer to

emphasize the meaning of something might require you to paraphrase you reword a

sentence so as to make it appear more clear teachers often paraphrase

sentences so as to allow their students to recognize the important points of a

subject to express something in as clear a way as possible might require some

paraphrasing to take place even here in my English lessons

I often paraphrase so as to ensure that my explanations come across as clearly

as they can many people believe that to paraphrase is to shorten a sentence this

is not true to emphasize and clarify a sentence is to paraphrase the word

originates from the Greek word para which means modification and phrasing

which means tell

way of expressing that if something works fine and is running smoothly with

no problems then don't make any changes to it

do not make changes to something if it is already ok it is very tempting to

alter something just for the sake of it just for something to do it would appear

that the human condition is to always look for problems even when there are

non to find so if you decide to make changes to something that is already

working smoothly then don't be too surprised if someone approaches you and

says if it ain't broke don't fix it if it works okay just leave it alone

is a literally a small Hospital in the schools in the US for for various

reasons that I'm not going to go into but I remember when I was at school we

had we had two ways of treating all of the problems the medical problems at

school it was a paper towel that was left under some running water and they

would just do that and the other thing was savile on savile

on whenever I smell savile on I always think of school because that's what they

did anything if you were its school in the UK during the 1970s or maybe 1980s

and you had an accident no matter what it was they would just put savile on on

it savile on savile on cures anything it is skin but it's school that's all he

did so you could you could cut your head open and have half of your brain hanging

out and they would just they would just put some salve alone on it you could

break your arm and it's hanging off by a sinew and they would just just rip some

savile on on it that's it you would fall out of a tree and break every bone in

your body and they just smother your whole body with saffle on it is good

it's true I think they use it in operations as well and smear it over

your internal organs you could eat it I suppose no don't don't eat savoir I bet

people are wondering what is yes it's an antiseptic cream yes

antiseptic cream that you rub on cuts and grazes on your skin especially if

you're at school because that's all they ever use they use a very good a paper

towel that's been under a running tap and savile on that was it

I remember when I was at school I fell over I tripped at school and I still

think one of my friends tripped me up because just before I fell over I heard

one of them say let's let's trip him and they tripped me up and I fell and I hit

my head on a fire extinguisher a fire extinguisher and I hit my head and I

bled from this cut on the front of my head and and the blood was going

everywhere all into my eyes and down my face it was horrible it's a horrible

experience and I remember bleeding and next to the fire extinguisher there was

a small sandpit for the young kids to play in and use and I remember seeing

the sandpit with with of drops of my own blood inside it or just dripping onto

this sand and it was soaking in and I always thought years later what happened

to that sandpit they must have taken it away in there was to throwing it away

somewhere because it was full of my blood what a fascinating story but it

was horrible it was a horrible experience I was only about 9 8 or 9

years old anyone else got horrific stories of how

they were treated at school I'm not sure if I'd lived to know I'm not sure if

that beats you being hit on the head with a brick

it's it accounts for a lot of what happened afterwards
