always seems like a very strange month.

It is neither spring nor summer.

what I didn't realise

was just how much of the tree or trees

were going to be cut.

A lot of people confuse the local elections

here in the UK with the members of parliament.

They are very different thing.

So the people who oversee the local councils

each individual area that deals

a period of time where things in that part of the world

So yes, it has been voted upon and the election has taken place

there is a lot of history that goes back over many years,

Did you see the news story yesterday?

There was a piece of art, a very famous piece of art

that was up for sale.

I am sad to say that I did not buy it.

I did not purchase this particular piece of art.

And there it is.

If you've ever heard of Andy Warhol, you will know of his work.

He was an artist very prevalent during the 1960s.

I suppose you might say that he is one of the foremost artists

in the world of pop art, pop art.

I'm sure you have come across his work in the past.

Well, one particular piece of work, a very famous piece of work

by Andy Warhol was sold yesterday.

It is his famous print of Marilyn Monroe.

It's sold in auction

for $195 million.

Now, I'm going to be honest with you,

I sometimes find the art world

a rather ludicrous place.

People collect art.

They will pay anything to have one

piece of artwork in their house,

but I'm not sure about $195 million.

That seems like a lot of money to pay for one piece of artwork.

But of course, there are people who will say, Mr.

Duncan, you silly man, that piece of art is unique.

It was created by a very famous person, and a lot of people want it.

So, of course, there is a marketplace for art.

So the more desirable a piece of artwork is,

the more a person will be willing to pay for it.

So I suppose in this particular case

you might say that the artwork is desired a lot.

So there are a lot of collectors out there

who would love to get their hands on that piece of art.

And that is the reason why

it went for such a high price.

I think it might be one of the highest prices ever paid.

I'm sure there are higher prices but to me

it is almost obscene.

It's almost an obscene amount of money to pay

for what is essentially a piece of canvas

with something printed on the front.

So what can you say really?

But if there are people who are willing to spend that much money,

then I suppose there will be people who will pay

that amount of money.

And I suppose we can also think of other

pieces of work that Andy Warhol has produced.

His famous ten of Campbell's Soup

He painted a portrait of a can of soup

and that, I believe,

is also worth quite a lot of money as well.

But I think I think it is madness.

Yes, I think a lot of people would say that it is madness

to spend that much money on

one piece of artwork.

Michael says, yes, I agree that Andy Warhol was a great artist,

but paying for any piece of art

to the value of $195 million is total madness.

Well, I suppose when you think about it, we could

we could look at anything in that perspective.

For example, yesterday in the Houses of Parliament in London,

the the parliamentary procedure of the Queen's speech.

So these are the plans that the current government have for the country.

Normally it is read out by the Queen, the Queen of England, Queen

Elizabeth, but she's not feeling very well at the moment.

So yesterday, instead, they have Prince Charles doing it.

A lot of people making a fuss about it.

But my point is,

there is a lot of money.

There is a lot of money spent on the royal family.

It's a very contentious, very controversial subject.

There are people that think that money should not be wasted

and there are those who think the money is well spent.

So there is a belief that having a royal family

something that people want to come and see

will bring money into the country.

It is a very interesting moment of time.

But Prince Charles was sitting on the most amazing gold and throne.

And next to him was was the crown the queen's crown.

And that is priceless.

It is a priceless artefact.

It is a thing that is so valuable.

It is very hard to put a price on it.

So people might say that in this day

and age where there are so many people struggling,

so many people trying to

to live and survive, you might find that

spending $195 million on a painting

is obscene.

It is something that is maybe bad taste as well.

So I'm sure there would be a lot of people who would

say, that's doing that.

Spending that much money on a painting is obscene.

But there you go.

If there is a market for it, if there are people out there who are willing to buy

or willing to spend that much money

on one particular thing, then of course it's going to happen.

It's going to happen.

But it is definitely a lot of money indeed.

Coming up later on, we are going to look at art.

When we look at artwork, when we look at art in general.

that I suppose you can describe as subjective.

Each person takes their own point of view.

They take their own thing away

from that particular piece of art.

And there are many different types of art.

There are some artists

who produce things that many people like There are some artists

who produce work that a lot of people don't understand,

but they are still famous and they are still well known.

I suppose you might say that Andy Warhol was one of those artists

that not everyone understood.

Not everyone understood why

a portrait of a can of soup

would suddenly be so popular

and what it would do to other people

But when we talk about art, I think it can be anything.

I think anything can be art.

You might walk down the road and you might drop your hamburger

or your ice cream on the ground, and then maybe afterwards

you take a photograph of it.

And then you put it on the Internet and you sell it

as an original photograph or a piece of art.

And people might they might actually want it.

They might say, Oh, you've captured

that moment of time so well.

Look, Look at that ice cream

running away.

It is melting in the hot sun.

What does it all mean?

What is the message that the artist is trying to bring across?

But all I've done is taken a picture of an ice cream that I dropped on the floor.

So to some people, it might mean nothing, but to other people,

it might it might be the most creative thing they've ever seen, ever in the world.

So it does depend.

It really does depend on what

that piece of art actually is.

Being formal with their monarchy

and the tourists and the media attention.

Yes, I suppose that is the argument that a lot of people make

for having the royal family in this country.

They bring a lot of tourism.

They bring people from all over the world

who want to come and see this.

They want to see it.

So yes, I suppose that is the argument in favour of it.

So what about you? Do you like art?

I suppose art can be anything that is expressionist

or is expressed.

So I suppose you could say that art is, is anything

that is put forward as a creation.

I suppose poetry, poetry is a form of art.

Maybe writing is also a form of art,

but I'm talking more about the expression of painting or drawing,

something that you might go into an art gallery to take a look at.

So that's the type of art I'm talking about.

Some people like classic art.

They like to look at the old classical art,

the beautiful oil paintings.

Some people like modern art.

Some people like to look at things that don't quite make sense.

Something that is maybe surreal.

Maybe you are a big fan of Salvador Dali.

He liked all of that.

You see so it does depend.

I think everyone has their own view of art.

Some people get it.

Some people understand it and some people don't.

Some people do not.

I think the paintings would represent windows on the wall.

I'm a big fan of John Constable.

I don't know if you've heard of him, but Constable,

very popular, very famous artist.

Countryside scene.

He was very good with his landscapes,

recreating rural scenes.

And we used to have

we used to have one of his paintings on the wall in our house.

Not the original, of course.

It wasn't the original painting, but it was a print,

and that was was a constable.

So I've always liked John Constable's work to be honest.

Tranquil.

A lot of his paintings are tranquil,

peaceful, relaxing.

And it is true that a lot of people nowadays are actually going into

you making their own works of art.

did or Van Gogh, depending on how you want to pronounce it,

did actually make money from his paintings.

Of course, not quite as much

as his

paintings sold for later on after he passed away.

But yes, definitely he did make some money.

Well, I think everyone is going to have to tighten their belts.

If you tighten your belt, you make your belt tighter,

it means you are going to eat less you are going to spend less money

on things like food,

It means that you are going to spend less money

and quite often on things that you need, things

that you really do need

So we are going to have a look at a subject.

maybe something you couldn't see.

But now you can.

one might find something

or find out about something or find a solution.

To a problem.

So there are many ways of expressing the word find many ways

of doing it.

To discover

something is to find

to uncover something hidden is find.

So something you could not see.

Maybe you find it.

You uncover the thing that you are looking for

or maybe you find it without realising

it was there all the time and you didn't know it was there to uncover.

Something hidden is find.

And we have the common use of find, which is to discover.

But of course we can also have the past tense a find

which is found found.

So you find something you have found something.

Something has been found.

You might try to find something

we are trying to find a cure for lung cancer.

So in this particular sentence you are searching for a cure.

You are trying to find the cure

or something that can make that thing better

or to ease the pain or suffering of people suffering

with that particular disease or illness.

So yes, you are trying to find

you are trying to discover the cure.

One is searching for something

you might be searching for something that is hidden

or buried beneath the ground.

We are hoping to find the secret tomb.

If you are looking for a tomb, you might be digging.

You might be searching underground for something

that is hidden and you are hoping that you will find it.

The thing discovered is

a find so you can describe the things

that you find as a find.

The thing itself is the find.

There were some interesting finds

that we are excited to show you.

So the find can also be the noun.

The actual thing that you found

can be described as a find.

Quite often in archaeology

you will hear the word find used

and accidental discovery is found.

I found a £10 note on the bus

have you ever found many?

It's a lovely feeling when you're walking along the road

and suddenly you find money

on the pavement or on the sidewalk.

It's a very, very nice feeling.

The word strike can be used in this situation.

So maybe you are digging underground.

And then when you find it, we can use the word strike.

We are hoping to strike oil here

after two days digging, they struck gold.

So in those two situations, you can see the word

strike and struck are used

you find something that is underground,

you might strike oil,

maybe you do it by accident,

maybe you are not looking for oil, but you still find it.

You strike oil.

There are, of course, many people these days who search

for precious metals such as gold.

And I think it's in Australia.

I know in Australia there are certain minerals

or certain types of precious metal

that people often search for.

I also believe there are some reality

shows as well devoted to that.

The word find has many synonyms.

For example, locate you, try to locate something,

you search for something, you are looking for something,

you try to locate something,

uncover.

You find something, you uncover something.

Something has been revealed to you, something you were looking for.

We can also have on earth if you unearth something,

it means you find something underground or something that was hidden.

But now you have found it.

You have an earth that think you have found it

buried somewhere.

Recover you recover something, you find something.

Maybe if a ship has sunk

beneath the ocean or maybe an aeroplane has

crashed, you have to try and find it.

You recover the plane

or you recover the wreckage

of the ship from beneath the ocean.

You recover.

To come across something is find.

You come across something.

Maybe you are walking down the road and you come across a child who is lost.

You suddenly find that person you discover them

to hit upon.

Something is also to find

you stumble on something you find something by accident.

So if you stumble on something, it means you find something

by accident.

The word lose refers to an event

where something has been taken away or suddenly disappears.

It suddenly vanish is so the word lose can often be

expressed as the opposite to find

you lose something, you find something.

The word lose refers to an event

A thing you own has vanished.

I have lost my car keys.

I put them down this morning.

But now I can't find them.

They have disappeared.

They seem to have vanished.

the word loose has many synonyms.

You can lose something maybe you are walking down the road

and you lose your money, you lose your car

keys, maybe you lose your dog.

Maybe your dog runs away and you can't find your dog anywhere.

So the word lose

can be expressed as mislay drop

misplace to be defeated is to lose.

If you are beaten in a match or a game or a battle,

you lose to be beaten,

to fail and you fail

at something you lose.

You are not successful.

You go down.

It means you have lost the game or the match.

then we have the word win.

The word winning refers to the occurrence of gaining something

if you win, it means you get something.

Maybe you play the game or you gambled or you did something
