oh hello there welcome everyone  yes we are back together once again  

for our end of week english addict quick  fix not a long one it is a short one  

coming to you live from the birthplace of the  english language which just happens to be england

is it wrong to take photographs of everything  you do and then post it on the internet i  

know a lot of people these days they love taking  photographs of everything relating to their lives  

their daily events and then they post them on  the internet i suppose the surprising thing is  

a lot of people like looking at it looking at all  of the things that they are posting even if it  

seems like something that's trivial or small they  will still take a photograph of it and post it  

onto the internet i suppose i should i should take  a photograph of myself today so here we go i'm  

going to take a photograph of me right now i know  it's a little self-centred and maybe narcissistic  

but i'm going to do it because today is well  it's a day that's filled with happiness and  

maybe a little bit of sadness as well so  there we go mr duncan smile say cheese cheese

might be in a good mood today i can think  of at least two one reason you are alive  

that's pretty cool i think that's a  pretty good thing to be pleased about  

if you wake up in the morning you slowly open your  eyes always make sure the first thing you do is  

smile because it is lovely because you know  you are going to get another day of life  

think of all the people that didn't wake up this  morning think of all the people who will never  

open their eyes again so so suddenly  everything seems really nice another  

good thing of course is we are here together  live sharing our love of the english language  

but i suppose also maybe it's a little bit  sad because this is the final english addict  

quick fix because october is coming  to an end but it is not quite over  

because on sunday of course i will be with you  on sunday with our special live stream mr steve  

will be here as well and also myself and  hopefully you as well as we celebrate

i still can't believe this every time  i say it it seems unreal 15 years  

on youtube i don't know how many people are still  doing or making videos or doing live streams  

having been here on this website for 15 years  i wonder how many people are still here doing  

regular things maybe they are publishing  regular videos or doing live streams but  

i wonder how many people who've been doing  this for 15 years are still here doing this

you might be as well oh i've just thought  of another reason why you might be happy  

because we've reached the end of  the week which means it's friday

lots of fireworks will be going off this weekend  i have a feeling as we celebrate 15 years on  

youtube and of course today it is the end of  the week the weekend is just around the corner

i think you might be quite pleased about that  i think so we've had some really weird weather  

over the last 24 hours a lot of rain has fallen  especially in the north of england a lot of rain  

has fallen over the past 48 hours here we've had  a lot of rain but of course when you get rain  

and if there is a little bit of  sunshine as well you can also get  

a beautiful rainbow would you like to see  the rainbow that i filmed just over one hour  

before coming on here now so there it is  there is the view from my living room window  

and we we had the most amazing rainbow it's  almost as if the sun and the rain wanted to  

say goodbye to my english addict quick fix with a  little bit of style and maybe some beauty as well  

the rainbow i don't know what it is  every time i see a rainbow i always feel  

what's the word i'm looking for uplifted i always  feel uplifted whenever i see a rainbow i don't  

know why maybe because it's a little bit of nature  a little bit of magic saying hello look at me i'm  

nature and i'm really beautiful in  fact for most of the time nature is  

rather nice and we also had a lovely rainbow  behind the trees as well so let's have a closer  

look oh yes there it is you can see it's quite  windy but we have the most glorious rainbow and  

as i said just i love rainbows so much you might  also notice there is a rainbow on my t-shirt today

it's very nice also because it's windy the  leaves are now starting to fall from the trees  

shall we have a look at that okay so there  you can see some of the cows at the back  

of the field this was this morning the view  outside the window and you can see the cows  

are there and also you might be able to see the  leaves falling from the trees as the wind blows  

so a rather nice scene today you will notice the  leaves in the distance are blowing from the trees  

as as autumn slowly moves on i don't know what's  happening this year we are having a very strange  

autumn it seems to be taking forever for  the leaves to fall from the trees however  

whilst it is here we will enjoy it we will  enjoy the beautiful weather whilst it lasts

they are changing the name to meta something that  is meta is something that is small or maybe hidden  

or is hard to see something meta something  that is hidden within another thing is meta  

something that you might not notice straight away  however i think the media especially the bbc the  

bbc got rather carried away yesterday they got  too excited at first they were reporting that  

facebook was changing its name but it  isn't so facebook will still be facebook  

so it's not changing its name however the parent  company the company that owns facebook overall  

is changing its name to meta something that is  small something that might be hidden or blended in  

with something might be meta for example when  you take a photograph you have something called  

metadata metadata is the data or the information  that is hidden but you can access the metadata it  

is hidden away but you can find it we often use  it if we are watching a movie maybe something  

that has an extra meaning or a hidden depth to it  maybe a movie you watch and and perhaps there is a  

story that is in there and there are lots of other  details that you might not notice straight away we

british summer time and british winter time begins  so it is the end of summer so the clocks will  

go back this weekend which means that for most of  you the time will be different for my live stream  

so don't forget that the clocks go back this  weekend for some people it does for some people it  

doesn't but for us here in the uk our clocks will  go back one hour which means that for some of you  

my live streams will start at a different time  for some people it will start one hour later  

than it does during the summer for which  i apologize i can't do anything about that  

unfortunately one of the things that people have  talked about for many years is should we stop  

turning back the clocks every time the  season changes but for the time being for

but as they always say all good things  must come to an end a proverb that we  

often carry through life whenever we are having  fun whenever nice things are happening whenever  

moments of time seem almost too good to be  true we often have to remind ourselves that all  

good things must come to an end and sadly our  month of special live streams will be ending  

soon which may be sad for some people but  for other people maybe you are relieved  

maybe you are glad to see the back of me so on  sunday we are celebrating 15 years i thought  

it would be interesting to have a look at some  photographs not too many but some some photographs  

when i started doing my videos on  youtube when i first created my  

youtube channel i was actually still living  in china and here i am and there i was

so there is a picture of the place i was living  in during my time in china don't worry i'm not  

going to show lots and lots of photographs  only two or three photographs so don't worry  

i know some people become annoyed when i start  talking about my time in china however today  

it is relevant it is relevant it is suitable for  today's live stream because we are talking about  

my 15th anniversary and we will be celebrating  it on sunday so there i am in a place  

very close to a desert have you ever heard of  the gobi desert well the place i was working at  

way back in 2006 was very close to the  gobi desert in china here's another one  

here is a here is a useful bit of  information a useful thing to remember

could that really be me i don't  know really it might be me  

but there is a good piece of advice from a very  young mr duncan english can improve your life  

and that's the thing i have always believed during  my time in china i used to give lots of speeches  

and lots of i suppose you would call them  seminars where i would talk to not only  

students but also parents and other teachers  about the importance of english and why  

learning english and encouraging people to learn  english and teach english is so important and i  

suppose the piece of advice i'm giving there is  english can improve your life and yes that is me  

a long time ago of course when i was in china  i had quite a few dramatic moments including

this now i never thought i would see the  day where i would be wearing a face mask  

in the uk but this photograph was taken not  last year this photograph was taken in 2003

during sars who remembers sars sars happened way  back in 2003 at the start of 2003 and i had just  

arrived in china so i was working in china  at the time but then everything closed down  

all of the schools closed many of the restaurants  and cafes they all closed it was a very strange  

time to be in china during the sars outbreak and  the story that i always tell i apologize if you've  

heard it before but most of the foreign teachers  left they went back to their own countries so  

i did not i did not leave i did not run away i  decided to stay and there you can see me wearing  

my face mask but this is nothing to do with  coronavirus of 2020 this is sars way back in 2003

18 years ago wow can't believe it i really can't  believe that that is 18 years ago so i hope
