little darling it's all right here comes the sun  my baby here we are again on a sunday and it is  

the most amazing day we are having a beautiful day  here in the birthplace of the english language yes  

we are now coming to you live as live can be i  hope you are having a good weekend because i am  

the sun is out the sky is blue and we are all here  together again well i'm here are you as i said we  

are coming to you live from the birthplace of  the english language which just happens to be  

england

i am feeling very happy today hi everybody this  is mr duncan in england how are you today are  

you okay i hope so are you happy i hope you are  feeling happy and okay as well here we go again  

it's another live english addict for those  who can't get enough of the english language  

that is the name of the program there it is look  revolving at the top of the screen right there  

and look behind me we have the most glorious day  it would appear that summer has come back it went  

away for a while but now it has returned welcome  back summer it is nice to see you back here again  

sunshine blue sky warm temperatures apparently on  wednesday next week wednesday it's going to be 28  

degrees which is very unusual for early september  but i would imagine that it has something to do  

with global warming maybe i  think what's been happening  

all of the cows at the back of the house  because there are lots of cows behind me  

i think they have been eating too much grass  which then has caused them to fart a lot

so i think maybe it is the cows at the  back of my house maybe they are causing  

the giant hole in the ozone layer above my house  which is why we are having so much lovely sunshine  

so i won't complain too much as long  as we don't have another ice age  

that is that that's the only thing that i'm  going to complain about so please can we have  

no more ice ages we had one and no one enjoyed  that not at all i've seen the twitter posts

my name is duncan i talk about  the english language and i do  

it in a very unusual way you may have  noticed already i'm not your average  

english teacher you might even say that i'm  not your average human being to be honest

also i found out that from twitter posts as  well here we are then it's so nice to be here  

i can't believe how lovely the weather is i  woke up this morning with a smile on my face  

and a spring in my step because yes it is still  the weekend and the weather is nice it's going to  

be nice here and i hope the weather is nice  where you are as well because it is sunday

we are back together again

it's sunday and of course you can catch me here  live every sunday and wednesday from 2 p.m uk time  

thank you for joining me on this lovely  bright day everything is rather nice  

and would you like to have a look at  another view so this is what everything  

looks like at the moment many farmers have just  finished doing their harvesting as you can see  

from this look at that isn't that beautiful  a beautiful typical english countryside scene  

you can see that the farmers have finished their  harvest and now they are gathering all of the the  

bales of hay and they will take those back to the  farm and in winter they will use those to feed  

the animals also they they sometimes use it also  as bedding so the animals can lie down comfortably  

so all of that will be gathered taken away and  used in winter and look at that there is the view  

today at the top of the local landmark of  course we are talking about the reeking hill  

a very famous landmark and you can see if you look  very closely you can see there are some people  

walking around at the top because it's a beautiful  day look at it and don't forget mr steve and  

myself we were actually up there a couple of weeks  ago when we celebrated my birthday so isn't that  

lovely what a lovely view and this is the view  right now what it looks like at this very moment  

in time and there it is in the distance everything  looking lovely today i have to be honest with you  

i don't know why i i thought summer had come to an  end but it would appear that we are now going to  

have a few more days of summer to enjoy so i'm  feeling rather pleased about that to be honest  

you might notice today that i am a little happy  

it's been a super-duper week i've had a nice time  we went to see some friends last week we did a bit  

of socializing which between you and me felt very  good i did enjoy seeing other human beings and  

spending time with them because it does seem like  a very long time since any of us spent any time  

with other people in a social situation so yeah we  did enjoy that last week it was a wonderful time  

and we had a good time didn't we you know who i'm  talking to yes we had a little bit to drink last  

tuesday night we had a little dance as well and  guess what we were dancing to can you guess what  

we were dancing to mr steve put some music on  last week last tuesday night we were visiting  

our friends we had a party we had a lovely time we  would do we'd be doing some dancing to a certain  

type of music but can you guess who it was i will  give you a clue they are in the news at the moment

and we we were dancing mr steve was a little  bit drunk actually because he wasn't driving so  

so he did have a little bit of beer last tuesday  night and to be honest with you you you have to  

see mr steve when he is slightly drunk it is it is  both amusing and horrifying at the same time oh we  

have the live chat don't worry i haven't forgotten  you don't worry i i have not ignored the live chat  

i know you are here so i suppose we should take  a look at who was first on today's live chat oh

a very interesting situation taking place  here because we don't have our usual first  

live chat in fact we have someone different  today sorry vitas i think your finger will need

okay that's enough no more we can't have too much  fun it's too early it's only quarter past two  

we have a lot of things to do today  a very busy show we are going to

blow something up we have some  explosions we have some loud bangs  

coming up today we also have  mr steve as well he is back  

talking about one particular subject  today we are talking all about patience

patience it is an interesting word  because it can be used in more than  

one way so that is what we're talking  about are you a person who can stay calm  

even when everything around you is going  wrong when things are going badly maybe  

you are in a difficult situation and you  are finding it very difficult to cope with  

maybe something you have to tolerate something  you have to bear something you must withstand  

quite often you will need patience to do that  you you need to stay calm you need to stay  

focused in the moment you need to be patient so we  will be talking about that a little bit later on  

another thing to mention now at this time of  year we start to think about all sorts of things  

however instead of thinking about going away on  holiday at the moment i'm thinking of something  

else can you guess what it is i am thinking about  getting healthy losing a little bit of weight ah i  

admit it i will put my hand up now and say yes i  admit it i admit that i have eaten too much food  

over the past 20 months and i have put a little  bit of weight on so i am from yesterday i've  

decided to cut down on the amount of food  that i eat the amount of rubbish and junk  

i've decided to cut down and i suppose with  certain things i've decided to cut them out  

completely so if you cut something out that means  that you stop doing it completely you cut it out  

you stop doing it so i have decided to cut out  certain types of food i will eat less chocolate  

i will eat less fatty foods and certain things i  will stop eating altogether so i want to cut down  

on the amount of junk that i eat i want to lose  a little bit of weight and i will tell you why  

last tuesday we went to see our friends near  a place called chester and before we went out  

i was trying to decide what to wear and i found a  pair of jeans that i haven't worn for a long time

and i thought hmm i'm going to wear those jeans  i'm going to put them on and i will wear them and  

i will look so stylish and cool and trendy however  there was one slight problem i could not get them  

around my waist i could not  fasten the button hit the front  

because my stomach for some reason i don't  know why but for some some reason my stomach  

has become very large and i can only  imagine that it is because i've been  

eating too much food over the past 20 months  whilst we've been in lockdown and all of that

so that's the reason why i've decided  to try and lose a little bit of weight  

so i can wear my trousers my lovely fashion  jeans that i haven't worn for two years  

and now they don't fit because i have a rather fat  tummy so that's what i'm doing is that a good idea

oh there would appear to be a lot of comments  coming through about my weight and my fat tummy

mr duncan needs to cut down on  jaffa cakes and chocolate flour  

you might be right there yes i  need to cut down or maybe i need  

to cut out certain things so when you cut out  something it means that you stop doing it you stop  

taking part in something you stop an activity such  as well i suppose a good example would be smoking  

so if you like to put a [ __ ] in your mouth

if you like to smoke maybe one day you  decide that you don't want to do it anymore  

you cut out cigarettes completely  you cut it out you stop doing it

thank you thank you a lot of  people yes yes ricardo says  

the belly grows with the lust for food it  is considered a sin of wealthy countries  

but who can resist that is true in  fact there was an age here in england  

and i think in certain parts of europe where  being fat was considered a sign of wealth  

so people would eat as much food as possible  and if you became fat it meant that you were  

wealthy and this was a trend that happened i think  a couple of hundred years ago around 200 years ago  

people believed that only the wealthy could get  fat because they were the ones who could afford  

all the food and i think also you find this in  certain countries in china for example if you  

have a lot of weight it means also you have a lot  of money so this has also been a trend certainly  

during the time that i was there i noticed that  that was it terence says i have just popped in  

and out i do that all the time i'm always popping  out especially my big belly my big belly will  

often pop out from the top of my trousers thank  you for popping in your channel intrigues me

intrigue i like that word if something  intrigues you it means it draws your attention  

i want to find out more about  this strange man with the glasses

is always sunshine there is also sunshine it is  a beautiful day but now we need some rain because  

of the lack of rain our energy bill will be more  expensive i hope we won't have an energy breakout

air conditioning on all the time to cool the house  down which of course uses electricity so you might  

find that you use a lot more electricity during  times when the weather is extreme you are right

this is a super duper long live stream i am  the only person on youtube who is doing this  

for two hours every sunday and also every  wednesday no one else is doing this not like this  

this is unique one in a million nothing else  like it anywhere we will be watching something

falling down later something being demolished  we will be watching it as it happened mr steve  

will be here in a few moments but as i mentioned  and i did mention it i do remember mentioning it  

it's there in my brain somewhere i did mention  that i am trying to lose a little bit of weight  

but do you remember the time when mr steve took  me into the garden and he was trying to get me  

to do some exercises well we are going to watch a  little bit of that right now a little excerpt from  

the time mr steve took me into the garden and got  me to do some very difficult exercises and then  

after that we have the real thing mr steve will  actually be here live in the studio don't go away

ah well viewers i've noticed over the last few  months during the lockdown mr duncan has become  

more and more unfit and he's putting on weight  

so i've asked mr duncan if he would come outside  today and i would help him to start getting fit  

so i asked mr duncan to dress into some  appropriate clothing but the question is  

where is he where is mr duncan mr duncan  where are you sure he'll be here soon

you're all right mr duncan oh there's only a  little bit of gentle jogging hi everybody welcome  

to the garden today mr steve has decided  to show me some exercises that i can do  

to get fit and healthy during this lockdown  period apparently according to mr steve i'm  

i'm putting on weight you see okay what  now i'm not is that the cushion under there  

it is not a cushion and i'm not pregnant before  anyone say congratulations is her in order no no  

this is no baby this is all of my jaffa cakes all  of my cheese all of my unhealthy snacks that i've  

been consuming over the past six or seven months  well you call this appropriate dress i think this  

is great i look i look really athletic i feel as  if i could take on the whole world anyway first of  

all mr duncan uh always do some warm up exercises  warm up warm up your muscles why because otherwise  

you will cause damage to your muscles you can't  just go straight into vigorous exercise without  

first warming up your muscles and tendons so my  muscles at the moment are all tight and cold they  

are so a few stretches first mr duncan let me show  you follow what i do anything i do you must copy  

it exactly so these are stretches stretches i do  some stretches right first of all let's do one of  

these uh there we go so that is stretching muscles  in your legs mr duncan and then we swap round and  

we do that one like that there we go so wait there  a minute have i got to go all the way down there  

on with it down on the floor yes it's a simple  stretching exercise mr duncan okay i will i will  

try i i'm not sure if i will be successful  faster because i'm not i'm not the fittest  

person in the world i've got all morning mr  duncan okay or a show to do in a few hours  

okay well we haven't assuming that you're  still up to the job after this that's good  

okay so i've got i've got a stretch i've got  a stretch no other way mr duncan the other way  

can i do it this way no is this better i'm you  say i feel more relaxed in this position really

average fitness i would say showing off his  showing off his strong virile body you're the one  

that well talking to strong viral bodies is pedro  on today okay i haven't seen him there's somebody  

who doesn't need to lose any weight yes you know  there is a law against that sort of thing now  

i haven't seen him on the live chat sexual  harassment well i'm if i was in brazil maybe  

i you know maybe i would go down that route but  i'm not i was watching i was watching a kids show  

yesterday and it was it was made in brazil oh  in the in the mid-1990s and it was brilliant it  

was so surreal and weird but i watched it and  i was i was i was slightly hooked to be honest  

it was a brazilian tv show i can't remember  the name now but it was all set in a castle  

and there were some very strange characters in  there but it was made in brazil and and everything  

of course was in was in portuguese because it  wasn't english mr steve is here everyone we  

had a lovely time last week yes we did but you've  got to be gentle with me today mr duncan because  

even though beatrice thank you very much says that  i look very young today i'm surprised considering  

i was at a party last night steve went to one of  his um theatrical friends when i say theatrical  

i mean well not really but they all pretend to be  theatrical they are they are we are in the theatre  

uh you know albeit amateur but we're still  you know if you do the same production as a  

professional in an amateur form you all have  to learn the same lines the same music it's  

just not as good it's just that they just don't  do it as well although sometimes it is better  

sometimes it is i mean we had rave reviews for  uh the king and i for uh um many other things

i'm trying to think of some of the things that  return to the forbidden planet yes that's the  

best thing you've got that was your favourite  anyway anyway before we stray off into one of mr  

steve's ramblings last week we went to see some  friends and we had a great time didn't we did  

but mr steve had a little bit too much to drink  in fact i i have a feeling he might be becoming  

a little bit of an alcoholic i'm not  sure but i'll have to keep an eye on  

his drinking habits because you had quite a  lot to drink last tuesday and last night yes  

but i'm talking about last tuesday stay with  me and and and mr steve got quite carried away  

in fact you put some music on didn't you did  i oh yes yes and music i was i was asking

my lovely viewers to guess what the  music was well no one bothered to guess  

so i'm going to tell you it was abba somebody  mentioned abba earlier on oh maybe maybe somebody  

mentioned abba earlier on i saw the word abba okay  was because you were talking about it but somebody  

did mention abba yes yes somebody did mention  abba as steve as steve just told us somebody  

did mention abba it was abba we were dancing too  which is strange because a couple of days later  

it was announced that abba are going on tour  well almost going on tour so they are going to  

do a performance give a performance but it's going  to be virtual they're going to appear as avatars  

and and i decided to take a look at the news  report about it and yes i can see why because  

they are all looking rather old so they're  not really going on tour are they well they  

are they are going to perform but they're going  to do it with with avatars so they will still be  

doing the movements and the singing oh but  they're going to appear as little avatars  

so three-dimensional holograms that people will  then watch as if they are actually there in person  

so the avatars will be younger versions of  abba because now they they all look very  

elderly they look they look like they should  be just sitting at home with their feet up  

sipping a cup of tea well they must have been  when was their fit waterloo when was that you  

know when when were they on eurovision well it's  74 maybe 74 so they're probably in their 20s then  

well 50 so they're probably in their 70s now  aren't they yes i think they're all they're all  

hanging somewhere around 80 which is not a  problem but i suppose when people remember you as  

as the young version of yourself then it is  hard to step forward and be taken seriously  

so if they all walked on stage now and try  to do their songs i think it would look a bit  

well a bit strange because they all they all  look like they should have those little those  

little zimmer frames in front of them instead of  doing all their wonderful dance moves what's abba  

says muhammad abba is a pot abba is a pop group  a musical group who were around in the 1970s  

1980s the 1990s and then they kind of disappeared  during the 90s they slowly disappeared faded away  

and they've been they've been out of the limelight  for many years did you know the last video that  

they released they were once again they didn't  appear as themselves they were actually puppets  

they were puppets of abba all all the members of  abba were actually just little dancing puppets  

you can't beat a bit of abba to cheer you  up because it's all sort of mostly upbeat  

dance music pop so you know there's no no shame  in enjoying a bit of pop they have had a bit of  

bad press over the years because people don't rate  their music very well but in fact it's fantastic  

you can at a party if you just you know don't  think about whether it's what type of music  

music is is just listen to it and just  enjoy veto victoria says i love the video  

where they are puppets yes it's a it is actually  good i will be honest with you it is a good video  

it is on youtube so try and find it abba the last  video it's called the last music video and that's  

actually the title of the video but they're all  puppets and it's pretty it is actually very funny  

it looks like them the puppets all look  like them but they're just dancing it was  

so they've gone from puppets to avatars yes so  they've come right up to date with avatars now  

apparently it's all been designed by george lucas  of star wars can you believe it i think that's a  

bit i don't think i'll be watching that i don't  think i'd want to watch a concert of somebody well  

i know it's not really them i mean we're not quite  ready for the metaverse yet but it is it is them  

so they're actually going to be performing live  i i'm not sure if mr steve is i know but visually  

yes that's it but they will be there actually  doing the live movements and singing and it's  

so i think it's quite interesting i i was  sceptical at first i thought no but actually now  

that the thought has grown on me so maybe  when we are old perhaps when we are both  

old and clapped out well obviously i will never  need an avatar because i will be forever young  

clapped out i love that ex that is an expression  so if a person is clapped out it means  

that they're just tired broken exhausted they  can't carry on so maybe we could have our own  

avatars you can have an avatar i'll just appear  as myself in fact i can let you in on a secret  

this already is mr steve's avatar thanks very  much yes that's how i've been getting away with  

looking young all these years yes i'm the real  mr duncan but but steve is that is actually the  

avatar we have that technology we've had it for  years we've kept it secret haven't we mr duncan  

we have almost hey we had some lights okay steve  we had a dramatic moment yes last week there was  

a big bang a loud bang and the earth moved yes and  it had nothing to do no i'm not going to say that  

i'm not going to i was going to to say  something then but i'm not going to say it well  

then if i move on then no i'm not going to say  it i was going to say something and i thought  

shall i go there shall i go to that place and then  i i thought no no this is a this is a respectable  

program but there was a big bang last week  would you like to see it smutty mr duncan  

would you like to see the big bang yes  the the final part of the demolition  

of the local power station took place  last week one of the tallest chimneys  

in the country was demolished would you like  to see it here it is here it is now being blown  

up and this is what happened last i think it  was on friday wasn't it everybody loves to see  

a tower block or a chimney being  blown up so just for your edification  

yes here we go for your enjoyment enjoyment  stand by there is a big bang on its way

that was uh exciting that was that was actually  quite dramatic that was only uh maybe two three  

miles from us if that yes it's about three  miles from where we live so we did hear the bang  

we did in fact we were going to uh drive there  and walk and try and film it but we decided not to  

because they said that they would demolish it  between 10 a.m and was it 1am no 1pm 1pm and we  

didn't want to hang around for three hours no one  is demolishing a chimney at 1am waiting for that  

but in fact they did they demolished it 15 minutes  past 10. well there is a reason why they do that  

because yeah they do that because they  don't want people going there yeah  

yes so it puts it puts spectators off  they don't like it put us off so it worked  

i think that was also laziness as well yes that  was a bit of laziness we heard the bang we heard  

the bang so that is the final thing to be  demolished so now all of the power station  

virtually all of it has gone and over the  years there have been many power stations  

demolished well yes i mean if you're into  demolition you've had uh very good career  

profitable a business venture for the last many  years as they demolish all these old power the old  

coal powered power stations because of course  we're getting greener and greener apparently  

and they want to get rid of coal powered power  stations um and replace a lot of them with  

gas-powered ones which i can't see that they're  going to be any less polluting i mean there'll  

be less particles but the same amount of co2 i  would think would go into the atmosphere or price  

of gas is going up by the way okay steve steve  you you really got to know when when to stop but  

you stopped me that's the idea i don't have to  think about it you just say stop mistake and i  

will obey okay well please stop again but that  is one of the last power power stations i don't  

think there are any coal-fired power stations  left in the uk i think they're all gone been

did you know that when you demolish something like  that you don't blow it up it's called the blow  

down i've had a few of those in my life no answer  to that you you don't blow something up like this  

i think we know what that is mr  duncan we call it a blow down  

so you you you weaken the structure i  read about this you weaken the structure  

until it falls naturally so that's why it looks  so elegant it's almost elegant as it falls  

just remove those lower bricks and it weakens  the structure and it all comes crashing  

down yes it's quite interesting how they do it  the science behind it yes very interesting what  

uh well we hope you enjoyed that little demolition  or blow down because mr duncan is describing it  

i was feeling a little bit what's the word when  you look back into the past nostalgic yes i was  

feeling a little bit nostalgic today and i decided  to look for something on the internet because  

apparently a lot of people have been talking  about this on twitter they've been remembering  

things that they used to do years ago that they  don't do anymore i can think of one or two things  

but do you remember there was a fast food  restaurant in fact it was a chain of restaurants  

called wimpy i do mr duncan and i was having  a little flashback to my younger years when i  

was a child and there is a picture of one of those  actual restaurants sadly they don't exist anymore  

they went a long time ago they were bought i  think burger king bought them many years ago  

but i remember wimpy they used to have the most  amazing hamburgers in fact in stafford there were  

two wimpy restaurants and and do you remember the  menu steve the thing i always remember about wimpy  

or wimpy restaurants their menus i don't remember  were they laminated cards yes but not only that  

they also had pictures as well so the thing i  always remember about the wimpy restaurant is  

you didn't have the the meals described to  you in writing you actually had photographs  

which i love i think they should bring that back  i think they should have photographs on menus  

well they often do in chinese restaurants don't  they here in the uk you have to have a picture of  

what it looks like so it does exist in some places  just quite do wimpy restaurants exist in any other  

parts of the world does anybody watching have a  wimpy restaurant which is a bit like a McDonald's

king we used to go into one didn't we i remember  years ago we used to go into one but i love i love  

the names so for example you could have a wimpy  brunch brunch so that so that's not breakfast but  

it's also not lunch it is brunch and then you can  have the wimpy grill which is everything basically  

everything it is chips sausage egg everything  sounds like a full english but the one i always  

remember was 36p yes look at the prices what  year is this mr duncan well it's going back

do you know why they called it a shanty salad  uh well i can't imagine you would have had that  

because it's got the word salad on it that's  it well it had fish you see ah right so they  

called it a shanty because a lot of people think  of sea shanty which is a type of song often sung  

by sailors in fact semen enjoy shanties' oh you're  just getting smutty thomas tomic's joining you  

with a smut that's your brain but there you  go is anyone really interested in this i mean  

unless you've got a wimpy restaurant then it's  not going to be very nostalgic for anybody else  

mr duncan i just love the names of the meals i  think the names of the meals are brilliant and

duncan that's you know well as you may have  noticed when i'm with mr steve there is one  

thing that i always demonstrate there is one  thing that i always show and one thing that i  

always i don't know i i think i think i am quite  a calm person i'm much more relaxed in general  

situations than mr steve mr steve is not a relaxed  person so what we are talking about today is  

patience patience so having patience i  think this is an interesting word because  

in our day-to-day lives there might be  situations where you you are not calm  

or tolerant with another person so we often  describe patience in a certain way and of course  

it does have more than one meaning so patience  is the act of staying calm so whatever happens  

whatever situation comes along even if  i have to do a live stream with mr steve  

i always try to be patient so patience is the  act of staying calm staying relaxed whatever is  

happening around you staying calm whilst waiting  for something perhaps another thing that steve is  

not very good at so i would say that you are not  good at waiting for things he gets very impatient  

which is the opposite so an impatient person  cannot wait a patient person can wait they  

are relaxed they are tolerant whatever is  happening around them they feel completely  

calm and relaxed you are waiting to be served  perhaps in a queue that might be a good way of  

describing it well of course we've had to endure  queues a bit more recently mr duncan since the  

lockdowns have uh been ending yes being able to do  something tedious see there's an interesting word  

tedious something tedious is it's something that  is boring to do something maybe repetitive um  

maybe you work in a factory and you have to put  the caps on bottles or something maybe something  

in the house maybe it's you find it tedious boring  repetitive to to do housework some people don't  

like cooking it's usually something repetitive  mowing the grass some people find that tedious  

but it's just something that you find boring  and that you wish you were doing something else  

but it's something that probably has to be done  cleaning your teeth that's tedious it's boring uh  

you know it's 10 minutes a day or whatever i  don't like cleaning my teeth in fact my mother  

has a good solution to uh taking the tedium  away from cleaning your teeth talking of tdm  

this this story it might be tedious well you see  my mother i see i wait to go to bed and then i  

clean my teeth and get into bed but my mother  does it about an hour before she goes to bed  

she goes upstairs gets ready cleans her teeth  whatever washes gets into a nightgown comes  

downstairs so she probably does that about  nine o'clock and then she comes downstairs  

watches a bit of television or whatever makes  a bottle uh builds a bottle full of hot water  

because she likes a bottle oh i said i thought you  meant a bottle of whiskey uh and then she says i  

can just then when i'm ready to go to bed i just  go to bed and i don't i just go straight into bed  

and fall asleep because i think actually if you go  upstairs this is nothing to do with patients you  

are being very patient whilst i or while i tell  this story uh because i think when you if you're  

tired then you go to bed and then you have to  wash brush your teeth and all that it wakes you up  

so i think it's a good idea i'm going to try  and get into that habit of getting ready for  

bed an hour before coming back down and then all  i've got to do is just go upstairs get into bed  

that's never going to happen no it's not but  it's worth it's worth talking about so being  

able to do something tedious like listen to mr  steve talking about his mum's night-time habits  

some of which we won't go into doing  the washing up after a meal christine  

yeah that's tedious yes tedious it's boring so  having a sense of understanding might also be  

patience you see so you are maybe listening to  a person talking or doing something that is not  

interesting are you going to give words with  a similar meaning to patients i am yeah duck  

deep we're going to do it so yes we can only do  everything at a certain speed i could do it faster  

but then i would just tire myself out  victoria says tdo in italian means boar  

yes well it it it really does work in the  same way yes so that must be where the word  

comes from that's it it's probably from latin  actually i would imagine it comes from latin  

so talking of tedious things here is  something i want to show very quickly steve  

some things that i don't like doing can you guess  what i don't like doing to mr steve what housework  

gardening you know all the important things  decorate anything other than the live stream  

yes mr duncan doesn't like doing mind you he  does like cooking now i don't mind cooking  

helping me around the house you know that  sort of thing working together as a couple  

yeah so here they are then some of the  things i don't like doing there's a lot

can you see what i'm doing here i'm hanging out  some washing this is one of my weekly chores  

that i have to do it must be done regularly  to be honest i do not enjoy doing chores  

they are such a chore we often use the word  chore to describe an unpleasant or laborious task  

something we despise or dislike  doing can be described as a chore  

there are many different types  of chore that must be done

washing the dishes i hate  having to wash the dishes  

mowing the lawn i hate having to mow the lawn

putting out the rubbish i hate  having to put out the rubbish  

vacuuming the carpet i hate  having to vacuum the carpet

but for me the worst chore of  all has to be ironing my clothes  

i cannot begin to tell you just how much i  despise ironing especially when there are so  

many clothes that need ironing yes i'm  pretty sure that my least favourite chore  

has got to be doing the ironing do you enjoy doing  chores which chores do you hate doing the most

oh which chores do you hate doing the most  so i think you have to have a lot of patience  

when you are doing those things

good word to use will i elaborate on the bottle  that my mother uh makes before she goes to bed  

if you elaborate by the way you give more  information you make you make the thing clearer

greater detail or depth you elaborate give us more  detail well the bottle is a hot water bottle um  

but that people must know what a hot water bottle  is hopefully it's a thing you put water in it's  

rubber you put hot water in it uh and then you  cuddle up to it and it's nice and warm yes in the  

in the olden days before we had windows and  roofs people used to have hot water bottles  

so you put hot water into a little rubber bottle  you put the top on and then you put it in your  

bed and it makes your bed all lovely and  warm as long as it doesn't burst and you  

can get nice coverings nice sort of cloth wool  coverings to put on it to make it feel even more  

cuddly if the water comes out then you might you  might suffer some burns or you might wake up in  

the night thinking you've had an accident yes you  might think that you've done a wee wee in the bed  

hot water bottles used to be very popular in the  uk because particularly before central heating  

just something to warm your bed up yeah in the  winter uh you know having somebody buy you is  

probably the best way to warn you better but if  you're on your own that's it then a hot water  

bottle my mother has one all through the summer  well somebody finds it comforting yes so if you  

can't find a water bottle just find another person  to hop into your bed and keep you warm at night  

okay yes so ah right yes yeah hot water bottles  does anybody use a hot water bottle that'll be  

interesting nothing to do with patience  but it is not water bottle um would be uh  

interesting to know whether they're used in other  parts of the world i'd imagine they are maybe you  

could fill it full of cold water in the in the  summer i've never tried that what about that  

really hot water bottle and turn it into a cold  water bottle and uh fill it full of ice maybe it  

would have the opposite effect never thought  of that yeah maybe i could patent that idea  

i am i am keeping my patience whilst  mr steve talks about water bottles  

to withstand something we are teaching english by  the way steve i was going to say at this point in

video mr duncan i mean i will i'd the only thing i  iron is casual shirts uh but if i was by non-iron  

shirts and they are quite good particularly if  you're wearing them under a jacket you can't  

really tell get them out of the washing machine  don't leave them in after it's spun yeah hang them  

right out shake them hang them out straight away  and most clothes will not iron i mean jeans even  

jeans if you get them out straight away and hang  them up stretch them or pull them about you don't  

need to iron them the other day i left my jeans in  overnight i'd forgotten and they were so crinkled  

even though they were still wet i had to iron  them so you know i never haven't had wine jeans  

for years right moving on god that's so boring i  don't think so i think you know it's saving people  

the tedium of having to iron that might be the  most boring thing i've ever heard should i go then  

anyone say on the internet by the way are we doing  you know you know what today shivani hello shivani  

i am not ignoring you but sometimes i can't say  hello to everyone because i would just be saying  

hello for the whole two hours hello siobhany singh  it is my first day in the live chat and mr duncan

to do with patience because that's what we're  talking about today we're trying to we are trying  

to talk about it to withstand something without  becoming angry or upset so we see patience as  

something that that is a good thing to withstand  something without becoming angry or upset means  

that a person is patient to be willing to listen  to something like mr steve when he's talking about  

his mother or his party that he went to last night  with all of the the famous stars the glitterati  

the the start the stars of the the amateur  dramatic circle that we all we've all heard of

i love the way you put me down mister done i'm  not putting you down the hard work that goes  

into an amateur production yes hard work for me as  well because i have to listen to steve rehearsing  

his lines again and again saying the same thing  it's a bit like being on the live stream really  

nobody seems to have heard of hot water bottles  no to be willing well you know what they used to  

use they used to put they used to have a thing  called called a bed warmer which was a long  

pan on a handle and they would put hot coal inside  that's right and that's the original one so before  

hot water bottles there was actually something  called a bed warmer which was a large pan with a  

little lid and then you would put that in the bed  and then it would warm your bed up although i do  

have a feeling that occasionally the bed may have  caught fire which let's get the bed would be very  

warm it would be in flames here's another one a  patient person has patience so that's interesting  

let's have a look at these two words patient is  the expression of it happening you have patience  

so the patience is what you have a patient person  has patience calmness tolerance beatrice says i  

like puzzles and i have enough patience to do them  yes puzzles exactly so a puzzle it could be um a  

jigsaw puzzle for example was going to take a long  time to do and you've got to find all the pieces  

and that takes patience you could get frustrated  no i can't be bothered with that doing a jigsaw  

puzzle yes or or any puzzle but particularly  a jigsaw you know have you got the patience  

to carry on until it is completed particularly  if it might take days or weeks to complete  

there are many situations in life mr steve some of  these you might recognize situations in everyday  

life that require patience you are stuck in a  traffic jam this one is just for you mr steve

what steve is not very good when he's waiting  in traffic when he's driving along he likes to  

keep moving there is nothing steve hates more on  the road than when a motorist or a car in front  

slows down or if the traffic stops completely  steve normally becomes a little impatient which  

is the opposite so so you don't like sitting in  a traffic jam or in a queue if you are stuck in  

a traffic jam no because usually when i set out on  a journey probably like a lot of people you've got  

a lot of things going on in your life so you want  to get somewhere by a certain time you think or  

the sat nav tells you it will take say an hour  so you allow an hour and then something goes  

wrong there's a hold up or something and then  i just feel the stress it's it's frustration  

that comes out because you feel you know you feel  bad at yourself that you didn't allow more time  

for things to go wrong because when you allow  time particularly when you're in the car  

you just you're calmer because you think oh  that doesn't matter i've got plenty of time  

i've allowed an extra half an hour for problems  so it might be the combination of two things

maybe maybe the traffic isn't going quick enough  and also maybe you are in a hurry so those two  

situations together if you put those together then  that will make mr steve go very red in the face  

well that's when you can make uh that's when  you can make bad mistakes that can cause  

accidents when you lose your temper lose your  patience very dangerous place not to be patient  

he doesn't quite often other roads mr steve  loses his patience yeah because when you're  

at home and you lose your patience that's fine  probably not going to hurt anyone but when you  

lack patience on the road that can lead to  frustration anger and then bad decisions  

and maybe accidents yeah by the way shivani  is from uh seeing us from india hello india

waiting for it if you are the sort of person  that always likes to have the latest tech

so waiting for something to arrive maybe like your  pizza oh that's a good one i like that one as well  

maybe you are i think i've had that one  already and i've had that one already  

and oh here we go you are  listening to a boring person talk

who i i i don't know who you and there's  obviously nobody here that would fit that  

description mr duncan yes quite i mean it's  when somebody is telling you about their life  

if you are in a social situation uh then to  show respect for somebody then if they want  

to talk about themselves then you know  generally it's good social etiquette  

is it not to listen to that person or to ask  them a question about their lives and then let  

them talk to you but unless of course they're  bought they're boring you might you might like  

last night you may have gone to the party last  night this is just a rough example maybe you  

were with someone and all they kept doing is  talking about themselves all the time they  

wouldn't shut up they just said oh me my shows me  me everything that i do in my life is so important  

but they're not interested in anyone else so  that's just that's just a hypothetical example so  

maybe a person maybe the person i don't know whose  party it is you know i mean hypothetically not

a patient is a person in hospital yes a patient  receiving medical care and attention is a patient  

the word patient derives from the latin  word for suffering so both of those  

uses both of those definitions come from the  same root so suffering if you are patient it  

means you are enduring something you you tolerate  it even though it's annoying or difficult so that  

is a type of suffering and of course if you are in  hospital as a patient you are also suffering from  

an illness so i think that's quite interesting  sometimes english is very fascinating because  

sometimes words that appear very different have  exactly the same origin yes because if you are  

listening to somebody talk endlessly about  themselves yes you are actually suffering in a way

on wednesday because apparently the weather on  wednesday here in england is going to be glorious  

apparently it's going to be hot and sticky  just the way i like it so i hope to see you  

on wednesday from 2 p.m uk time i hope  you've enjoyed this it's been different  

as it always is slightly different and  i will let you return to your usual
