hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today? are you okay?

I hope so are you happy? I really really hope so so here we are here we go it's

incredible we are now live on YouTube once again for a Sunday afternoon of

course there are some slight differences today you may have already noticed that

we are outside now can you believe I have spent all morning preparing today's

livestream and this morning the Sun was out everything was absolutely glorious

and can you believe it 10 minutes before my livestream started the clouds have

come across and the Sun has completely disappeared can you believe it it's

typical isn't it so here I am outside on the roof of my studio it is still a

rather nice day not too hot even though we've had lots

of sunshine this morning and everything is not too bad I hope you can hear me

okay because we are now outside and I hope everything is coming across clearly

I hope you can see me clearly even though the Sun has now gone in

fortunately I have my extra lights to light me up if you light something it

means you make it appear clear so it can be seen in the dark or of course if the

lighting is uneven so I hope you are okay by the way can I just first of all

say happy Mother's Day because it's Mother's Day today not here in the UK

because we celebrated Mother's Day a while ago but in other parts of the

world today it is Mother's Day so can I say a happy Mother's Day to those who

are celebrating Mother's Day and who are treating their mothers in an extra

special way today as a way of celebrating Mother's Day

and the world so today is Mother's Day and a very happy Mother's Day for those

who are watching also of course next weekend is a very special day here in

the UK maybe not where you are but in the UK it's a very special day next

little bit later on now I am wearing my sunglasses because we did we did have

will I be watching I don't think I will be I'm going to be honest with you I'm

not a big fan of weddings unless of course I'm invited if I'm invited then

I'm really really keen because quite often there is lots of food involved but

normally I I wouldn't watch a wedding on the television to be honest so I

probably won't be watching the Royal Wedding next week I know I'm going to

get complaints people are going to say mr. Duncan how could you not watch The

Royal Wedding what's wrong with you don't be such a spoilsport but no I'm

not by the way you can watch me on YouTube for those who are wondering

every Sunday from 2 p.m. and also Wednesday as well I am late and live

every Wednesday and that is from 10 p.m. both of these are UK time so don't

forget that I I will not be here for two hours today

because we have no mr. Steve mr. Steve is busy today rehearsing for his show

that he will be performing in about three weeks from now

so mr. Steve has a very busy month this month he is busy in May let's just say

having said that mr. Steve's mother is staying here at the moment she is

actually sitting reading her Sunday newspaper and eating a very nice

sandwich at the moment so mr. Steve's mother is sitting outside enjoying the

lovely weather here in the UK and I hope where you are the weather is okay as

well I really really do so next weekend the Royal Wedding and also it is

Mother's Day today if you want to say hello by the way to your mother for

today's special event you are more than welcome to do so so there you can see

behind me the view across the Shropshire landscape and there in distance the most

famous landmark in this area it is the Wrekin Hill Wrekin it is a very large hill

and to be honest I think today would be a very good day to be high up on a hill

higher than this even I mean I know that at the moment I'm quite high up but but

imagine the view from up there imagine the view from the top of that hill it's

pretty amazing so today we're asking lots of questions if you ever make a

mistake if you ever do something wrong if you ever find yourself in a situation

where you are incorrect do you ever admit do you ever own up so

do you ever admit to being wrong or do you ever admit or own up to making

mistake it is very hard for human beings to admit when they are wrong some people

feel quite proud of themselves they always believe that they are never wrong

and that they never make mistakes about anything however human beings are

fallible it's true so we can fail we can get things wrong

from time to time so if you make a mistake if you ever get something wrong

if you ever make an error do you admit to it

do you own up to your mistakes I know sometimes from time to time I

make mistakes sometimes during my live streams I might say something and maybe

it is incorrect by accident I say something that is not correct but I

don't mind if I am ever wrong about something if I ever make a mistake

your thumbnail yes that particular drawing was made by one of my lovely

students so one of my students actually created that picture and also they made

one of mr. Steve as well for those wondering mr. Steve is not here sadly

today he is not joining us because he's busy with his rehearsal for a show that

he is appearing in if you listen carefully now and again you might hear a

very high pitched sound a very high sound like a bird and that sound is a baby

robin there are some baby robins nearby that are being fed by their parents so

now and again you might hear a little

and if you hear that sound that is actually a baby robin so there are quite

a few chicks around here being fed at the moment and also in the garden at the

back of my house there is a black bird nest so I'm feeling very very excited

about that because we have black birds nesting in the back garden and I can see

the parents every day very busily collecting worms and seeds and taking

them back to the nest so the nest is in my garden and I know

exactly where it is yes so I'm very excited about that

course yes I am very busy in the kitchen this week I have been very busy in the

kitchen yes decorating the kitchen and here it is here is the wallpaper so here

is some of the wallpaper that I've put up in the kitchen there it is can you

see it so there is the wallpaper and you will be pleased to hear that I have

actually finished I finished the decorating it is now all

done so I can put my paint roller away I don't have to have that in my

hand anymore yes you'll be pleased to hear that the decorating in the kitchen

is now finished it has been completed it is complete on Wednesday I will show you

some video clips so I will do some filming in my kitchen and you can have a

look at the new decor that's a great word by the way deck hall so decor just

relates to the appearance of something how something has been made to appear so

you could say the deck Hall is the color or the design of a room so the decor and

of course when you change the decor you do decorating so when you decorate a

room you create the deck or you create the visual environment in the room I

hill is that an idiom not on top of the hill but you can say that someone is

over the hill so if someone is over the hill it means that they are old it's

true so you might describe a person who is elderly as being over the hill or

maybe if they are old and unfit you might say oh he can't walk very far

anymore I think he's over the hill so over the hill means you are old or too

old to do something so maybe someone might say mr. Duncan you are too old to

something is so when we talk about heavy things or how to measure the weight of

something yes so how heavy something is so some people use a measurement called

stones and other people use kilograms and other people use pounds and I agree

it can be very confusing I always use stone so for example my

weight is around about ten and a half nearly 11 stone so I weigh my weight is

around about ten and a half and eleven stone so sometimes it goes up a little

and sometimes it comes down slightly so that is my average weight so during the

winter I always put a lot of weight on because I eat more and in the summer

because I exercise more I lose weight so yes I normally use stone I don't

understand pounds because in the United States they use pounds to measure weight

whereas here we still tend to use stone or kilograms i mr. d'Ancona which place

a place called Much Wenlock which is in the county of

Shropshire you can look it up and Google later apparently apparently I am now on

the Wikipedia page for Much Wenlock I was told the other day someone said mr.

the reason why they say stone is because in the past I think they used stones to

measure the weight of things so if you wanted to balance something if you

wanted to find out what the weight of something is you would put a stone on

one side and the thing that you wanted to weigh on the other and then you would

keep putting the stones on until it balanced so if you had to put five

stones on then the thing weighs five stone so I

think that's where it originates to be honest but I I do find sometimes it is

very confusing when you measure things Inigo asks how tall are you I am over

six foot so I am just over 183 centimetres so around about six foot and

a little bit so I'm very tall I remember when I was in China I was always the

well can I just tell you something can I let you in on a secret there is

something that happens with tourists and even people who are native to wherever

they are living and quite often men do not like wearing coats they don't like

putting lots of layers on their body because they think it is a sign of

weakness so quite often men will walk around in their t-shirts and their

shorts even though the weather is freezing because they think it looks

very macho very strong they think it makes them look very very manly you know

like me mm-hmm I am a man and I'm walking around on a cold day but I'm

wearing a t-shirt because I am very strong so that's the reason why that

happens it happens here is well to be honest I am able to listen to most of

your words but when I look at the IELTS test that it sounds like an echo so it

was hard to catch oh I see so T ass are you talking about your IELTS test

because during an IELTS test you will have a listening test where you will

have to listen to sentences and then you will have questions about the things you

just listen to or maybe you will be asked direct questions by the examiner

so yes you are right you have to learn how to listen you have to listen to

different types of English being spoken but it does take a long time you can't

rush these things they take a very long time

today I'm getting a very nice suntan on my nose because normally when the Sun is

on my face normally I will get very small spots on my face so my skin will

react to the sunlight and I will get little spots called

freckles freckles so the freckles will come out on my face

and then later they will vanish again because my skin is very dark so when the

Sun is on my face my skin will change slightly it will get very dark and I

will get lots of little freckles on my face especially on my nose and I think

they are there to protect your skin so when you get freckles I think they are

kind of a defence against the sun's harmful rays I think so so let's have a

look I really don't celebrate Mother's Day

because my mother passed away almost 16 years ago thank you sue Kat for sharing

that and yes I'm sorry to hear that of course there are many people who have

lost their parents over the years or maybe recently and Mother's Day or

Father's Day is not such a happy event because well they are not there to share

it with you and you are not able to share it with them here in Hong Kong

every morning when I wake up this is my philosophy of life by the way

it isn't very complicated it's quite a simple one when I wake up in the morning

I always wake up with a smile on my face and the first thing I think about is all

the people that didn't wake up the're no longer around so that's it so every

day that comes my way is a present yes it's a gift so I always try to make

the most of every day that comes my way because that's it that's what life is

all about you grab life it is something you take hold of and you you mole

and you use it sometimes you can use it to help others and sometimes you can

help it to help yourself you use it to help yourself

it might sound selfish but sometimes you have to be a little selfish to survive

but of course once you survive you can also help other people as well so that

is my basic philosophy every morning when I wake up I have a smile on my face

and I think about all of the people who didn't wake up that's it

I enjoy the calm pace of your lessons it is like an oasis of tranquility in a

frantic world especially on YouTube yes you are right well YouTube has changed

so much over the years YouTube is now full of lots of things

that are that are flying toward you everyone on YouTube is trying to get

attention they're trying to get noticed so everyone now is going crazy to get

noticed on YouTube and of course when that happens you get chaos you get

confusion and of course a lot of people don't like that sort of thing so I'm

glad to hear that you like my lessons and I'm glad to hear that they make you

feel calm and relaxed I am very pleased to hear that very pleased indeed yes we

must have a day where we cherish our mothers dedication I think so I think

Mother's Day is a very important day it is don't forget you your mother brought

you into the world she brought you up she brought you into the world

the word bank can be used as a noun and of course it can be used as a verb as

well you can bank some money you can bank some checks so if you Bank it means

you put your money in a bank or you will send some money to the bank to go in or

of course you can do your banking so banking is the expression that says you

are doing something connected with your money or you are putting money into your

bank or you are taking money out of your bank you are doing your banking and if

you work in a bank or at a bank we can say that you are in banking you are a

banker you are a banker bank can also mean a slope or some ground so if you

have a slight hill that goes upwards we can describe that as a bank a bank and

of course if you are flying a plane you can also bank as well that means to

turn around suddenly so if you Bank you will turn suddenly in a plane so as you

like many birds many birds can make maybe an owl do you think it's an owl

around because it's nesting season now so many birds are flying around feeding

their chicks in their nests the pigeons are building their nests the Robins are

feeding their chicks at the moment they are they are feeding their chicks also

blackbirds I have a black bird nest in my garden so there are some black birds

taking care of some chicks very hungry chicks chicks in a mess so yes it's a

also the word cuckoo can mean crazy as well so if we think someone is a little

I think owls are nocturnal birds they are they come out at night

so if you come into my garden at night you can hear the owls in the trees they

are all hooting hoot a hoot is the sound of an owl talking about

birds I hear the sounds of birds Chinese birds in your video singing very loud oh

moment flying around and making their noises there are black birds in fact

there are many black birds at the moment flying around because they are all

black bird to be honest I think so cuckoos are lazy they lay their eggs in

other birds nests they are yes they will actually go to another bird's nest and

mother's eggs out and they will put their own in there but the very clever

thing is they can actually make their eggs look like the eggs of the nest that

they are raiding it's true it's amazing I think cuckoos are quite clever even if

what they do is not very nice but yes they're very very clever birds so

yes they can lay eggs that look like the eggs of the nest in which they are they

are raiding and they are pushing the eggs out and laying their own and then

the mother comes along and she will raise the chicks as if they are her own
