and stop doing something?

Well, stop what you're doing right now

글쎄, 지금 당장 하던 일을 멈춰라.

because that's what I'm going to tell you.

그것이 내가 너에게 말할 것이기 때문이다.

When we use stop plus ING,

stop + ING을 사용하면

the activity in the ING form stops.

ING 형식의 활동이 중지됩니다.

So, I have stopped drinking coffee.

그래서 커피를 끊었습니다.

I'm not drinking coffee anymore, I'm only drinking water.

더 이상 커피는 안 마시고 물만 마십니다.

But when stop is followed by the infinitive,

하지만 stop 다음에 부정사가 오면 부정사의 행동을 하기 위해

it means we stop doing another action

다른 행동을 하는 것을 멈춘다는 뜻입니다

to do the action in the infinitive.
