Learn English Contractions using OF | Grammar and Pronunciation

In today's video, I’m going  to be telling you about some  

Bugungi videoda men sizga ba'zi

informal contractions including the word ‘of’. 

norasmiy qisqarishlar, jumladan "of" so'zi haqida gapirib beraman

Now, it's important to remember that these  types of contractions are just for conversation. 

. Endi shuni yodda tutish kerakki, bu turdagi qisqarishlar faqat suhbat uchun.

You don't want to use them in writing. So pay close attention. 

Siz ularni yozma ravishda ishlatishni xohlamaysiz. Shuning uchun diqqat bilan e'tibor bering.

And if you memorize how to say these  contractions, you’re gonna start sounding

just like a native speaker.

Let’s take a look.

Keling, bir ko'rib chiqaylik.

Alright, let’s take a look at my list of  common contractions including the word ‘of’. 

Xo'sh, keling, mening umumiy qisqarishlarim ro'yxatini, shu jumladan "of" so'zini ko'rib chiqaylik.

Now, in this list, instead of saying  ‘of’,

Endi bu roʻyxatda “of” deyish oʻrniga

we're going to use the ‘schwa’ sound, the kind of ‘uh’ sound  to make these contractions. 

bu qisqarishlarni qilish uchun “schwa” tovushidan, yaʼni “uh” tovushidan foydalanamiz.

I have six examples. I’ll say each of them twice. 

Menda oltita misol bor. Men ularning har birini ikki marta aytaman.

The first time, I’ll say it slowly.

Birinchi marta, men buni sekin aytaman.

The second time, I’ll say it at  a normal speed like a native speaker.

Ikkinchi marta, men uni ona tilida so'zlashuvchi kabi oddiy tezlikda aytaman.

It's really important that you repeat after me out loud each time.

Har safar mendan keyin baland ovozda takrorlashingiz juda muhim.

Here we go.

Qani boshladik.

Okay, first one. ‘kind of’ = ‘kinda’ 

Yaxshi, birinchisi. ' kind of' = 'kinda'

‘She's kinda cute.’ ‘She's kinda cute.’ 

'U juda yoqimli.' "U juda yoqimli."

Next. ‘sort of’ = ‘sorta’ ‘I’m sorta tired’ 

Keyingisi. 'sort of' = 'sorta' 'Men juda charchadim'

‘I’m sorta tired’ 

'Men juda charchadim'

‘out of’ = ‘outta’ ‘I’m outta money.’ 

'out' = 'outta' 'Menda pul yo'q.'

‘I’m outta money.’ ‘a lot of’ = ‘alotta’ 

— Menda pul yo'q. 'a lot of' = 'alotta'

‘They ate alotta cake.’ ‘They ate alotta cake.’ 

'Ular alotta kekini yedilar.' "Ular alotta kekini yedilar."

‘lots of’ = ‘lotsa’ ‘He has lotsa money.’ 

'lots of' = 'lotsa' 'Uning ko'p puli bor.'

‘He has lotsa money.’ 

— Uning ko'p puli bor.

Last one. ‘cup of’ = ‘cuppa’ 

Oxirgi. 'cup of' = 'cuppa'

‘Would you like a cuppa coffee?’ ‘Would you like a cuppa coffee?’ 

'Bir chashka qahva istaysizmi?' — Bir chashka qahva istaysizmi?

Did you guys hear that schwa that ‘uh’ sound?

Bolalar, siz o'sha "uh" ovozini eshitdingizmi?

Alright, great job. Let's move on.

Yaxshi, ajoyib ish. Keling, davom etaylik.

All right, let's take a look at a few dialogues.

Mayli, keling, bir nechta dialoglarni ko'rib chiqaylik.

And really pay close attention to these because I promise if you do it's going to  help you master these contractions. 

Va, albatta, ularga e'tibor bering, chunki agar shunday qilsangiz, bu qisqarishlarni o'zlashtirishingizga yordam beradi.

Conversation 1. Which of these can be made into contractions? 

Suhbat 1. Bulardan qaysi biri qisqarish yasalishi mumkin?

Yes, these ones. “Buy me a cuppa coffee.” 

Ha, bular. "Menga bir chashka qahva sotib oling."

“Sorry. I’m outta money.” 

“Kechirasiz. Menda pul yo'q."

Conversation 2. Which of these can be made into contractions? 

Suhbat 2. Bulardan qaysi biri qisqarish yasalishi mumkin?

Yes, these ones. “It's getting kinda hot.” 

Ha, bular. "Biroz issiq bo'layapti."

“Yes, we need to drink alotta water.” 

"Ha, biz ko'p suv ichishimiz kerak."

Conversation 3. Which of these can be made into contractions? 

Suhbat 3. Bulardan qaysi biri qisqarish yasalishi mumkin?

Yes, these ones. “I’m sorta tired.” 

Ha, bular. "Men juda charchadim."

“Go home and get lotsa rest.” 

"Uyga boring va ko'p dam oling."
