English Phrasal Verbs: Drag On and Wrap Up

So, to drag on, first let's look at the verb to drag, congugation...

So to drag something is to, instead of carrying something you hold on to it and you pull it

across a surface. This is to drag something across the ground. Maybe a backpack or if

something is really heavy instead of carrying it you will drag it to make it easier.

Another use of the verb to drag would be a smoker can take a drag of a cigarette to drag

the cigarette. And, you will also hear the word drag used as a drag queen. A drag queen,

or to dress in drag is for a man to wear women's clothing.

The phrasal verb drag on however means something completely different. To drag on means to

be taking a long time, it's taking more time than necessary. And you will commonly use

this phrasal verb in a negative sense like, oh this meeting is really dragging on, the

movie is really dragging on, that guy's speech last night really dragged on. So it is generally

in reference to something that you are not enjoying, and not having a good time.

To wrap up, wrap up. Again the verb to wrap is a regular verb, it takes a T sound

So the verb to wrap is not to be confused with the music genre rap music but to wrap

in this case means to cover something generally with paper or some kind of protective covering.

If you are going to give someone a present you would generally wrap the present first.

You hear wrap in other situations like a sandwich is sometimes called a wrap when it's circular

piece of bread that is wrapped around whatever is in the sandwich.

And another way you will hear this all the time is a wrapper, like if you have a piece

of candy you will have a wrapper you have to take off the wrapper to eat the candy.

And again to wrap up is not exactly not the same as the verb to wrap. Wrap up means to

finish it's to start organising everything or start directing whatever you are doing

into finishing, wrapping up means that you are finishing whatever activity you are doing.

Oh we are just about to wrap up, we are wrapping up the meeting, are you guys wrapping up soon?

I know you are really tired but we are nearly wrapping up.

So they are today's two phrasal verbs to drag on, and to wrap up, drag on, and to wrap up.

Now I am going to quickly say a phrase using both phrasal verbs, try to mimic and say this

phrase exactly how I say it.
