Grammar Mistakes ❌ HYPHEN AND EM DASH #SHORTS

I can't stand it when people misuse the hyphen.  We have three different punctuation symbols  

사람들이 하이픈을 잘못 사용하는 것을 참을 수 없습니다. 유사해 보이는 세 가지 구두점 기호가 있습니다

that looks similar. We have the hyphen, the  En dash, a little longer, and the Em dash,  

. 하이픈, 조금 더 긴 엔 대시,

longer still. We use the hyphen to connect  words that as an idea are describing something.

For example, a five-minute break. It's not  a five break, it's not a minute break.

It's a five-minute break. Use a  hyphen without spaces for five-minute. 

5분 휴식입니다. 5분 동안 공백 없이 하이픈을 사용하세요.

You can use and En dash, that's the next longest  line to show a range of time. For example,  

En dash를 사용할 수 있습니다. 이는 시간 범위를 표시하는 다음으로 긴 행입니다. 예를 들어

the event is from 7-10 tonight. Now the em dash,  this is the longest line is used show parenetical

that's extra information. And it drives me crazy  when people use the hyphen here. For example,

my dad who is never late, who's over an hour late.  My dad who's, dad who's, that doesn't go together

in one idea. So we need an Em-dash there. Em  dash doesn't have a space before or after.
