A Christmas Quiz! Holiday Traditions and Vocabulary in the U.S.

Hi there. I'm Jennifer from English with  Jennifer. I'd like to give you a short quiz  

about Christmas traditions here in  the U.S. Let's see what you know.

What are these?

Christmas stockings. They look like big  socks. Right? That's where the tradition  

came from. In modern times, we have these  oversized socks, and we decorate them.  

They don't go on our feet, though. Christmas  stockings hold special treats. My kids usually  

find chocolates and other small gifts in their  stockings on Christmas morning, December 25th.

Where are stockings typically hung?

On the mantel of the fireplace. See the shelf?  

These are stocking holders. They're weighted down  so that the heavy stocking full of gifts doesn't  

fall to the floor. In our old home, we didn't  have a fireplace, so we had to be creative.  

We tied our stockings to the railing of the  stairs. Santa also has to be creative with  

his entry and exit. How does he usually get  into houses to deliver gifts? Do you know?

Through the chimney. But if there isn't a  chimney, I heard that he has the help of a  

little elf who goes through the keyhole and  then lets Santa in through the front door.

Santa Claus has a lot to do on Christmas Eve,  

so how do children help him get  through the night and the long journey?

They leave out a plate of cookies and a glass of  milk. Do any of these traditions sound familiar
