Ordinal Numbers

Natasha, to talk about days

we don't say, "One, two, three...twenty-nine."

We say, "First, second, third...

twenty-ninth."

They're different numbers. Right?

So when we talk about dates,

we use different numbers.

We say, "First, second, third..."

Do you know these numbers?

Oh, you do. Good.

First, second, third.

Third.

So soon it will be March first, March second

March third, and so on.

Let's practice these numbers. Okay?

When we learn dates, when we talk about dates,

we need to say these numbers.

Let's practice.

Listen and repeat.

First. Second. Third.

Fourth.

Fifth.

So you see "five" -- we change the "v" to an "f."

Fifth. Sixth.

Seventh. Eighth.

Ninth. You see we lost the "e."

When we say nine, we spell N-I-N-E.

"Ninth" -- we do not have an "e."

Tenth. Eleventh.

Twelfth.

Same thing. Here and here we don't have a V.

We have an "f."

So we have "twelfth."

Thirteenth.

For all the teens, we just add the "-th."

The "th."

So listen. Thirteenth.

Fourteenth. Fifteenth. Sixteenth.

Seventeenth. Eighteenth.

Nineteenth. Twentieth.

"Twenty + (eth)"

Instead of a "y" we have an "i."

The Y changes to an I, and we have "twentieth."

TWENTY + eth = twentieth

The same thing will have happen for 30, 40, 50...on up to 90.

So listen.

Twentieth. Thirtieth.

Thirtieth....That's a tough one!

So for dates we only go up to 30.

We have "March thirtieth"

..."March thirty-first," for example.

We might have "March twenty-second"

...""April twenty-third."

So you can combine "twenty" with these numbers.

"Twenty-first"...."twenty-second."

Let's practice from 20 to 90.

Because those numbers have this ending.

20 to 90. Listen.

Fortieth. Fiftieth.

Sixtieth. Seventieth.

Eightieth. Ninetieth.
