Compliment vs Complement

To complement is to make  something complete or better,

often referring to a good combination of things. For example “Green clothes complement your skin  

通常指的是事物的良好组合。例如“Green clothes complement your skin

tone” – meaning that the colour green looks good  with the colour of your skin. Or “A nice red wine  

tone”——意思是绿色看起来很适合你的肤色。或者“一杯上好的红酒

would really complement this meal” – meaning that  the wine would make the meal complete, or better.

But to compliment is to give praise to  someone. For example, if you tell your friend:
