hi everybody this is mr duncan in england how are you today are you okay i hope so are

you feeling happy on this beautiful day well it's nice here although you may have noticed

that i'm not outside because it's very windy we've had a lot of rain over the past 24 hours

i can't believe it it seems like a very long time since we last had any rain in fact it's

been around three weeks maybe even four weeks since we had any heavy rain so it did feel

very strange last night lying in bed listening to the rain falling however i think we do

need it because the garden is very dry many farmers are getting very upset because they

do need some rain so we had some which is rather nice my name is duncan i talk about

the english language i've been doing this forever such a long time how long mr duncan

how long have you been doing this for thank you for asking i've been doing this for nearly

15 years i am and i say this with my hand on my heart and my other hand on my pancreas

i've been doing this a long time and i think i might be the best kept secret on youtube

can i say once again thank you to the youtube algorithms for making sure that no one finds

my content it's very kind of you thank you so that's the introduction out of the way

if it is your first time here hello welcome it's nice to see you here yes i am doing my

live streams twice a week there are still people who don't realize that i'm actually

here twice during the week sunday 2 p.m uk time and also wednesday here i am now to prove

it from 2 p.m uk time as well yes it is wednesday we have made it all the way to the middle

of another week and i hope your week has been super duper

nice to see you all here again wherever you are in the world it's nice to have your company

on this wednesday yes it's very nice to see you here you may have noticed i'm inside i've

decided to do my live stream today in the studio it is much easier now i know that most

of you out there are not film makers or videographers however it is much easier to film and make

videos in doors because when you're outside you can't control the the light and the sound

however if you are indoors especially if you are in a studio like this one you can control

everything you have complete control over the environment so it is much easier to do

this in doors it's also the same in hollywood when they make movies you see it's much easier

to do it all in a location that you can control the environment of and that includes the light

also the sound and especially if you have wind now i'm not talking about the actors

although they might have a bit of wind now and again yes but you can control the environment

around you and it's much better to do these things indoors where you have complete control

well almost anyway almost it is lovely outside despite the fact that we've had a lot of rain

it still looks lovely outside the window there it is right now looking out of the front of

the studio you will see many trees now have their leaves in fact on sunday i was told

that the silver birch that is the large tree you can see on the the left of your picture

blowing in the wind yes that now has its leaves and if you were watching last sunday you would

have seen mr steve planting a new tree in the garden we have a new tree if you missed

it well don't worry you can watch it again because last sunday's live stream is available

on my youtube channel

we are looking at things that are i don't know i what how shall i describe this things

that mean something to you something that has sentimental value so when we talk about

sentimental value we are talking about a thing an object quite often something that has been

given to you or something that reminds you of a special moment of time from your past

or maybe something that was given to you by a special person so do you have something

that you treasure and quite often we will describe these things as a treasured possession

do you have a treasured possession something that you own something that was given to you

maybe something you bought during a trip maybe you had a lovely holiday somewhere and you

have something that you bought maybe a souvenir oh i like that word souvenir it is something

that you buy and you take back home and every time you see it it reminds you of that special

time that you had maybe you went on holiday to a lovely place and so you bought a souvenir

so even a souvenir can be a treasured possession especially if it relates to something that

you remember fondly something you remember with a smile on your face something that makes

you feel warm and fuzzy might be a treasured possession a little bit later on we are going

to take a look at some of my treasured possessions and can i just say one of them is very unusual

you will never guess what it is so that's what we're doing a little bit later on but

what about you do you have something that you you own maybe just a small thing so sometimes

a treasured possession can be something that is just small maybe something you keep nearby

i think a lot of people will say photographs i think many people have photographs that

they put in a special place maybe they put it in a frame and then display it somewhere

where they can see it every day maybe a photograph of one of your parents or both of your parents

or maybe a relative or maybe your favourite pet or perhaps a person or maybe an animal

that is no longer with you so a treasured possession can be anything but i have a feeling

that many of you somewhere in your house or maybe nearby perhaps you will have a treasured

photograph a photograph of a person or maybe a moment of time that you want to remember

again and again that is one of the reasons why i love taking photographs i love taking

pictures steve and i'm going to tell you this i know i've told you this before steve used

to always complain whenever i took pictures or filmed anything he used to always complain

about it it took many years before steve realized just how important it is to take photographs

and there is something at the moment happening in my life which is i suppose it is affecting

me in more than one way as you know my mother is not very well she's being taken care of

at the moment and tomorrow it is her birthday so my mother will be another year older she

will be 80 tomorrow can you believe it i can't believe it sadly because of the restrictions

i can't go to see my mother in person however i have sent something to her and tomorrow

i will also be talking to her on the facetime app on my iphone so i'm looking forward to

that to be honest i'm really looking forward to doing that tomorrow because it is my birth

my mum's birthday tomorrow she will be 80 however also we are going to be saying goodbye

to our family home soon because the house that we rented for many many years will be

taken back we'll be taking back offers because my mother will will no longer be using the

house sadly she can't go back home and the house will be needed for another family so

the house that i grew up in and this is something that i i've got quite upset about i will be

honest with you so it is the house where we were all raised as children i have thousands

of memories of that place however we will have to say goodbye to that house in around

about three weeks time so three weeks from now we will not be able to go back to the

house where we were raised unfortunately so the house has been cleared it's now empty

and maybe next week i might go there and have a look have a final look at the house in which

we all grew up and of course i have lots of memories of my parents and my sisters as well

during that time in fact for for almost all of my life i lived in that house until i left

home at the age of 24. that's that's how old i was by the way when i left home is that

too old so i actually left home i left my mother and went to live somewhere else and

i think you know where

when i was 24 years old so a little sad moment however i have lots of photographs lots of

lovely pictures of the house where i grew up lots of photographs of myself my sisters

and my mother looking very young and all sorts of memories that i can look at again and again

so it is it is a big thing i will be honest with you it's quite a big thing to think that

the house that i grew up in will be will be given to someone else another family will

be living there it's a little bit sad actually thank you for your company today so if you

have something that you treasure maybe something that you keep nearby

a lot of people are commenting on vitas having a very fast finger i know i don't know what

v-test does i don't know what you're doing there but your finger is very fast hello to

zoe hello zoe is it summer where you are this is a very strange time of year because it

is spring however it's always very confusing during the month of april and and also may

it's very hard to tell whether we are still in spring or whether summer has arrived it

is a little bit confusing so yes at the moment it is still spring however

it does feel as if summer is here it's a little strange this time of year you might say that

we are on the cusp we are on the cusp of summer so we are still in spring however summer is

also approaching so we are probably in the middle of those two things

beatriz says i have many things belonging to my parents they have both passed away and

all the things are great treasures for me thank you beatriz for sharing that yes i think

so it is strange but even small things can i show you something and this is something

that really did surprise me now i went to my mother's house a couple of weeks ago because

we were starting to clear some of the things from the house and i found a small bag filled

with hats and here is one of them right here in my hand this is a hat and this is something

i didn't even know i didn't realize my mother was doing this so this hat has been knitted

by my mother but she made lots and lots of them and the reason why she did it was for

a charity that was sending warm clothing to another country

and i think that's amazing i didn't even realize that my mother was doing this so i found a

bag of these hats and as you can see they are very small hats so they won't fit on my

head unfortunately but they are actually designed to fit on a newborn baby's head and my mother

made loads of these lots and lots of them and many of them were sent away to the charity

so i think this is is this is such a simple thing such a simple thing but i know that

my mother made this and i know that my mother made this for a very special reason and i

didn't realize that she was doing this so it was quite a quite a moving moment when

i found these because i had no idea that my mother had been doing this so a little hat

there these are designed to go over the heads of newborn babies to keep them warm especially

at night isn't that nice it is it is very strange how we can hold on to small things

small items that mean something to us it can be very simple a very simple thing and yet

it might mean the world to you it might

kawabeen my treasured possession is nothing but my mind keeps happy memories of my family

yes i think so you might even say and i know this might sound strange you might say that

your memories are also treasured possessions i think so and and with what has been happening

to my mother recently i've realised how important it is to remember things but also to write

those memories down so never be afraid to write the things that you've done in your

life and the things that mean something to you don't forget to write them down so other

used to make used to make jumpers she used to knit jumpers and things for me to wear

during the winter months so yes my mother is very good at knitting as you can see here

from this little hat so i will keep this hat sadly i can't wear it because it's too small

but i will always treasure this because this is a little bit of my mother's life that i

knew nothing about i didn't realize that she was making these hats very interesting hello

to satyam watching in india yes the situation at the moment especially in india and one

or two other countries including brazil the situation concerning coronavirus covid19 is

still very serious in those places

christina says your mother knows how to knit very well i think so she used to make clothing

for us sometimes sometimes the clothes were a little bit too big but we we still wore

them we still used to wear them for school it didn't matter it didn't matter how often

i got beaten up in the playground for my giant jumper or my huge sweater it didn't matter

because my mother made it for me

a little bit like a parrot in fact cockatoos quite often sing they make strange noises

sometimes they they will sometimes imitate certain sounds so thank you saeed for your

lovely photograph and i have to say the young lady looks very pleased to be sitting on her

eggs i've never seen the chicks that come from a cockatoo so i've never actually seen

here is one of my most treasured possessions i'm going to show it now it's going to come

up on the screen right now there it is where did it come from though where did it

come from

this little cat was given to me by mr steve many many years ago so this was actually given

to me by mr steve it is a little cat a small cat made of porcelain and this is the first

present the first gift that mr steve ever gave to me way back in 1989. i know so this

has been one of my treasured possessions for over 30 years in fact almost 31 years ago

steve gave this to me and it is the first gift that steve ever gave to me way back in

1989 it was given for my birthday so when i was how old was i i would have been 24 24

years old and of course as you know i did meet mr steve on my birthday so i actually

met steve for the first time on my 24th birthday and then a few days later steve gave this

little cat to me as a gift so you might say that it was a late birthday present it was

actually a late birthday present if something comes late we can say that it was belated

so this was a belated birthday present that mr steve gave to me way back in 1989. oh my

goodness i can't believe it it seems like such a long time ago

many many years ago 31 years ago steve gave that to me of course the irony is that i don't

really like cats that's the strange thing and i always make a joke about this whenever

whenever we look at this we always say isn't it strange that you gave me a little porcelain

cat but actually i don't like cats i'm not a big fan of cats to be honest so it always

makes me smile when i think of that here is another thing then so there is the cat here

is another one of my treasured possessions something once once again something very unusual

oh yes i love this this is one of the gifts that mr steve bought once again many years

ago i think this must have been around 25 years ago so i've had this for quite a long

time from the mid 1990s and this is one of my little flat eric's so this guy's name is

flat eric and i have a whole family of these living in the bedroom but this is my favourite

so this is the one that always goes around the world with us so whenever we travel anywhere

wherever it is we always take this little guy along with us so this little cute toy

has been to many of the places that we have visited around the world as well quite a few

places in fact around the world

is that strange is that unusual i don't know but it is interesting to think about all of

the things we keep the things we treasure the things that we keep nearby and we often

refer to them as treasured possessions

i'm not sure about that i i don't know if it looks like me unless of course you are

saying that it is lovely and cute ah you see in which case i will agree with you 100 so

isn't it strange some of the things that we keep isn't it strange when we keep things

nearby even things that might seem completely worthless do you have a treasured possession

sometimes and this is another thing that i do sometimes if i go somewhere with steve

maybe to the cinema or to a restaurant i always like to keep the receipt because on the receipt

normally there is a date so that is a very good way of remembering something you did

in the past so quite often if we go to go for a meal or if we travel abroad quite often

i will keep things like maybe the plane ticket or maybe the bill from the hotel so these

things are very good for for reminding you of things that you've done in the past so

even if your memory fades even if you forget about those things you always have something

nearby to look at to remind you of those moments and of course there is nothing better than

photographs and i have been spending many hours recently looking through all of the

photographs of my mum and our family and also the house that soon we will be giving up very

sad

do you enjoy being given souvenirs that your friends bring back from their travels sometimes

yes sometimes yes and sometimes no quite often people will buy things that you can put on

your refrigerator they have little magnets on the back the only problem is the front

of our refrigerator is made of wood so sadly we can't stick the magnets on the front of

the refrigerator but yes that is that is it that is the thing people sometimes will bring

souvenirs back from their holidays and they will give it to you so maybe that could also

be a treasured possession something that you have that you keep you keep it safe you keep

it in a safe place so it doesn't get damaged

christina says whenever i travel i always like to buy a small souvenir i love that souvenir

the other word you can use is memento a memento so memento is something you have something

you buy and it will allow you to remember that particular time and we can also use the

between sleaze and corruption interesting question sleaze and corruption when we talk

about sleaze we that is a general term that relates to anything that is seen as bad quite

often things that involve maybe a sexual relationship or money maybe something that is happening

without other people knowing so things that are often hidden from public view things that

might be seen as bad that are hidden from view so the word sleaze is a general term

for anything like that then we have the word corruption well corruption is anything where

one person is doing something to gain an advantage from another person so maybe especially in

politics you may have heard that here at the moment in the uk there are some scandals taking

place there are people talking about scandals concerning our government and some of those

scandals concern corruption one person is giving another person some sort of favour

in return for something else so it is an exchange maybe one person will give you money and maybe

you will give them some sort of favour in return corruption so corruption happens in

all governments it's true whatever people say all governments are corrupt the only difference

is how easy it is to see that corruption a good example is one that i often use when

i was living in china corruption in china is very open and obvious it isn't hidden at

all i was amazed so china has a lot of corruption here in the uk we also have corruption in

government however quite often they are very good at hiding it and covering it up so the

difference between sleaze as a generic word anything that is seen as underhand or maybe

something that might have a sexual connection or maybe a person who is giving something

for a certain favour and sometimes those things can be i don't know maybe a business deal

maybe something that is given over as a favour in return for something else quite often money

father's birthday but it is also the first birthday without him yes i think that is the

problem isn't it those situations where you have a person very close to you maybe a family

member and they pass away and you normally have maybe some sort of celebration that you

would normally have such as a birthday or maybe christmas time as well a lot of people

do have family reunions during christmas as well

yes it is it is a difficult thing i will be honest can i just be honest with you whilst

we're talking about this i've never really lost anyone close to me but the only memory

i have of losing losing someone close to me is from my childhood when i was about maybe

five or six years old and i had an auntie and my auntie was lovely she was so nice she

was my favourite auntie okay well she was one of my favourite aunties but i always remember

she became ill but i didn't really understand what was happening and so after she died i

found it very hard to come to terms with the fact that she was no longer there and i was

only a child around six years old so it is a very difficult thing to to understand even

as a child but do you ever get used to it do we ever get used to losing someone i don't

think so but certainly in my adult life i've never really lost anyone close i've lost friends

and family members distant family members but my mother and father are still alive so

at the moment i haven't really lost anyone close to me is that a good thing or a bad

thing i'm not sure i don't know it's not an easy thing to answer to be honest

so that is one of the reasons why i love this tree so much lavender so this is a lavender

at so here is another one of my treasured possessions

you are really going to think that i'm crazy you really are i think so here it is can you

see that on the screen a pair of socks but these are no ordinary socks these are a very

special pair of socks one night about four years ago i was not feeling very well and

it was during the winter months and i was freezing cold and my feet were very cold because

normally i don't wear socks when i'm in bed and i was complaining about the fact that

my feet were cold and mr steve took a pair of socks in fact it was this pair of socks

and he put them on my feet and i always remember it with such fondness so i the next day when

i took the socks off i actually hung them up very close to the bed so where i sleep

right next to me these socks are always hanging right next to me and every day i can i can

look at them and it always reminds me of mr steve's moment of kindness when he put these

socks on my cold feet so i like that it's strange how we become connected or attached

to certain things some people might say it's very weird indeed maybe perhaps

was a very sad time it has changed

yes it was a very sad time then but it has been changed to all of the good memories for

being in your life i think there is a slight difference even though i know if you lose

your pet if your pet dies it can be very devastating as well i think so but i've never lost anyone

been watching very closely here the situation taking place at the moment in india and also

in brazil and one or two other places especially around europe so some european countries are

also suffering and struggling because of the coronavirus which seems to be still very present

in fact here in england we seem to think that everything will be back to normal

june the 21st apparently everyone here in this country are getting very excited because

they think that after june the 21st everything will be back to normal i'm not sure if that

is actually true i think they might be slightly deluded if they think that to be honest we

are coming up to three o'clock i am going to have a short break to clear my throat and

i'm going to have a drink of water as well to soothe my aching vocal cords so as we come

there a certain superstition that you always follow and the reason why i'm mentioning this

is because i was looking out of my window the other day and i noticed in my garden there

was a certain bird feeding in the garden and it was doing something rather horrible it

was actually eating one of the eggs from from a nearby nest which of course is something

that i hate i don't like it but can you guess which bird it actually was it it is a bird

that i don't really like very much and i will give you a clue

i don't like and and that's very unusual for me because i do like birds very much but there
