Now let's take a look at some practice exercises for the basic usage of the past perfect tense.

それでは、 過去完了形の基本的な使い方の

練習問題を見てみましょう 。

Take a look at the first sentence.

最初の文を見てください。

‘I blank for six hours before I had a break.’

「休憩を取る前に6時間ボーッとしていました。」

The verb here is ‘work’.

ここでの動詞は「働く」です。

Remember, we need to say ‘I had’.

「持っていた」と言う必要があることを忘れないでください。

No matter what the subject is, say ‘had’.

主題が何であっても、「あった」と言いましょう。

And then, you take the past participle of the verb.

そして、動詞の過去分詞を取ります。

In this case, we would say ‘worked’.

この場合、「うまくいった」と言えます。

‘I had worked for six hours before I had a break.’

「休憩するまで6時間働いていました。」

For the next sentence, I want you to try the negative form.

次の文では、否定形を試してみましょう。

‘We blank TV before we listened to the radio.’

「私たちはラジオを聞く前にテレビを消します。」

Remember, for the negative form, we say ‘had not’

否定形の場合は、「had not」と言う

or we use the contraction, ‘hadn't’.

か、短縮形の「hadn't」を使用することに注意してください。

‘We hadn’t’.

「そんなことはなかった」。

And then, we need the past participle.

そして、過去分詞が必要になります。

‘We hadn't watched TV before we listened to the radio.’

「私たちはラジオを聞くまでテレビを見たことはありませんでした。」

Now find the mistake in the next sentence.

次の文で間違いを見つけてください。

‘Reggie had it be to Mexico before he went to Peru.’

「レジーはペルーに行く前にメキシコに行くつもりだったんだ。」

Well, we have the subject here and for the negative, ‘hadn't’ is correct.

さて、ここで本題ですが、否定的な意味では「hadn't」が正しいです。

However, we need the past participle of the verb ‘be’.

ただし、動詞「be」の過去分詞が必要です。

So the correct answer is,

したがって、正解は

‘Reggie hadn't been to Mexico before he went to Peru.’

「レジーはペルーに行くまでメキシコに行ったことがなかった」です。

And finally, ‘Sally and Jan or they had do their job.’

そして最後に、「サリーとジャン、あるいは彼らは仕事をしていたのだ。」

Hmm.

ふーむ。

Remember, we need the past participle.

過去分詞が必要であることを忘れないでください。

We don't say do.

やれとは言いません。

We say ‘done’.

私たちは「完了」と言います。

‘Sally and Jan had done their job before they watched TV.’

「サリーとジャンはテレビを見る前に仕事を終えていました。」

Let's take a look at the first sentence.

‘You blank at the park for three hours before you came home.’

「 家に帰るまで3時間

公園でボーッとしていましたね 。」

Remember, we start with the subject and then ‘had’.

主語から始めて、「あった」ということを覚えておいてください。

ここに、

So I'm going to add that here,

then we need the past participle of the verb ‘be’.

動詞「be」の過去分詞が必要になること を追加します

And that is ‘been’.

。 そしてそれは「された」ということです。

‘You had been at the park for three hours before you came home.’

「あなたは

帰宅するまで3時間も 公園にいたのですね

The next sentence says,

‘They blank for six hours before they took a break.’

Again, no matter what the subject, we have ‘had’ and then the past participle.

繰り返しますが、主語が何であれ、

「had」と過去分詞が続きます。

So the answer is,

‘They had studied for six hours before they took a break.’

「彼らは休憩を取る前に 6 時間勉強した」になります。

Now, find the mistake in the next sentence.

では、次の文の間違いを見つけてください。

It's a little bit longer so it might take you a while.

少し長いので少し時間がかかるかもしれません。

‘They had been known each other for ten years before they had their first fight.’

「彼らは 最初の喧嘩をする前に

10年間お互いを知っていました 。」

Can you find the mistake?

間違いを見つけられますか？

Well, we have the subject and ‘had’, but check this out.

さて、主題があり、「あった」です

が、これを確認してください。

There are two past participles here.

ここには過去分詞が２つあります。

We need to get rid of one of them.

そのうちの1つを取り除く必要があります。

We can take out this verb and say, ‘They had known each other for ten years

この動詞を取り出して、 「彼らは

最初の喧嘩をする前に 10 年間お互いのことを知っていました

before they had their first fight.’

。」と言うことができます。

The next sentence says, ‘I have played soccer for many years before I scored my first goal.’

次の文には、

「私は 最初のゴールを決めるまで

何年もサッカーをしていました 。」とあります。

This sentence doesn't look wrong at first.

この文は一見間違っているようには見えません。

But remember, in the past perfect tense, we need to say ‘had’.

ただし、過去完了形では

「持っていた」と言う必要があることに注意してください。

‘I had played soccer for many years before I scored my first goal.’

「 最初のゴールを決めるまで、 私は何年もサッカーをしていました 。」
