Sound more NATURAL and FLUENT with WORD LINKING: How to link words in English

by learning about word linking.

Word linking means to connect the final sound in one word to the beginning sound of the next word.

This will help you speak faster and more naturally and will help you sound more fluent.

If you can learn how to do this, your pronunciation will improve a lot.

This will also help you understand native speakers when you listen to them speak.

Today, we'll take a look at consonant to vowel word linking.

Consonant to vowel word linking is the most common in English.

This may be very difficult for some of you, but with some practice you can do it.

Here are some examples:

Wake up

In

this phrase there are two different words: WAKE and UP. If

you say it slowly, It sounds like this:

wake up

If you say it like a native speaker

the K sound and the U sound are connected and it sounds like this:

WAYCUP

WAYCUP.

That's it. In

this phrase, there are two different words

THAT's and

IT.

If you say it slowly, It sounds like this:

that's it.

If you say it like a native speaker the S- sound and the I-sound are

Connected. And it sounds like this

Thatsit.

Thatsit. Let's take a look at a sentence that uses consonant to vowel word linking.

That's an airplane up in the sky. In

this sentence there are four examples of consonant to vowel word linking.

Let's say the sentence again slowly.

That's an airplane up in the sky.

Now, let's say it quickly like a native speaker.

That's an airplane up in the sky.

The words THAT's an AN

are linked and sound like:

"thatsan"

"thatsan."

Also airplane is linked to the word AN and

It sounds like (anairplane).

(anairplane).

So the beginning of the sentence sounds like that's an airplane (that's an airplane).

The words UP and

IN are linked together and they sound like: (u pin).

(up in)

The words the and

sky

also become linked and

sound like

the sky

the sky.

So let's say the second part of the sentence together

Up in the sky

Bidding the sky

Everything together sounds like that's an airplane up in the sky

That's an airplane up in the sky

One last tip

Be careful with words like wake

Make and name

these all end with the letter e

But the final sound for each word. It is a consonant

The consonant sound will link to the vowel sound of the next word

for example

my name is John if

We link the sounds of the word name and is it?

sounds like name is

name is

The final letter e is not a sound in this word so it is not linked
