My name is Angela and today we are going to learn some phrasal

verbs related to environment.

This is the second video in our series of three.

This video gives you a taster of some great phrasal verbs for you

to learn from our environment posters.

So let's take a look at a selection of phrasal verbs

that we have on the poster.

And we start in three, two, one, go.

We need to cut down on our use of plastic bags.

To cut down on, to reduce the size,

amount or number of something.

Look, notice how we can use this phrasal verb.

This is what we mean when we say it's separable.

They have chopped all of the trees down. They have chopped down all of the trees.

To chop down, to cut through something to make it fall down.

Many animals will die out if we don’t act soon.

To die out, to become more and more rare and then disappear completely.

It's a real challenge to dispose of all of our rubbish.

To dispose of, to get rid of something

especially by throwing it away.

Look, this phrasal verb is separable.

In a drought, all of the lakes and rivers dry up.

A drought can dry rivers and lakes up.

To dry up, if a river or a lake dries up, the water in it disappears.

She fights for environmental causes.

To fight for, to try hard to support or achieve something

you want or think is right.

Parts of the Arctic have stopped freezing over due to global warming.

To freeze over, to become covered in ice.

We will eventually run out of fossil fuels.

To run out of, to use something completely so that nothing is left.

Many young people stand up for animal rights.

To stand up for, to defend or support

a particular idea or a person who is being criticised or attacked.

People all over the world have taken part in environmental protests.

To take part in, to be actively involved

in something with other people.

Let's recap.

I'm going to

chop down this cherry tree. How did dinosaurs

die out? Rhinos have to

fight for survival. How will we manage if we

run out of petrol?
