Types of Laughter 😆 How do you laugh? - English Vocabulary

Hi everyone. I'm Jennifer from English with  Jennifer. This is a short but fun video about  

laughter. How often do you laugh? They say  that people who laugh a lot from the heart  

live happier lives. Laughter  is a form of stress relief.  

Of course, cruel laughter isn't good for anyone,  so surround yourself with healthy forms of humor.

"Laugh" is both a noun and a verb. You can have  a loud laugh or a soft laugh. You can laugh.  

You can laugh at something, like you can laugh  at a silly joke. You can laugh at yourself.  

You can laugh about something silly you did.  

Sometimes we have to explain that we're  laughing with someone and not at someone.

If you want to talk about being brave, you  can say, "I laugh in the face of danger.  

Ha! I'm not afraid." But how do we laugh?  Do you always laugh the same way? I don't.

A joke that's a little funny, but not  terribly funny, might make me chuckle.

That's a low quiet laugh  often with our mouth closed.

If I'm feeling silly, I might giggle.

Giggling is quick and high-pitched. It's a  series of laughs. People of all ages might  

giggle when they feel nervous, so it's  not always a positive form of laughter.

An unexpected source of humor might make  me burst out laughing. That's what it means  

to guffaw. Guffawing is loud laughter. It's a  big ha or hahaha. It doesn't sound very nice.

What's even worse is snorting. Some people  snort when they laugh. That's making a loud  

noise through your nose. Thankfully, I don't do  this too often. Let me see if I can snort for you.

And one final way of  laughing? Well, here's a hint.  

Witches cackle. In movies and storybooks, witches  always cackle. They laugh in a loud, mean way.  

Cackling is a loud, mean version of  giggling. Let's see if she'll cackle for you.

So how do you laugh? I bet if you record  yourself laughing and then listen to it,  

you'll laugh in a different way. Try it.

chuckle, giggle,

burst out laughing,

guffaw, snort, snort with laughter, cackle.
