I also wanted to learn Japanese

Actually, I wanted to learn every single language. I've always loved learning languages

so I went to Japan and I started teaching English and

taking Japanese language classes and I realized

That the traditional methods that were being used like long lectures from teachers

textbooks where you have to memorize

lists of individual vocabulary words

grammar exercises where you fill in the blanks in

Sentences that really didn't even make sense sentences that I would never actually use in real life like the pen is on the table

When is the last time that you said the pen is on the table not in an English class?

I actually felt pretty comfortable in the classroom with my Japanese language teacher and

Teaching English my students felt comfortable with me. So it wasn't a problem of personalities

It wasn't problem about the method

Was capable of learning another language. I knew that my students were smart and they were capable

Where was this gap coming from and the gap comes from I figured out after some time thinking about it?

Talking to my friends who are English teachers talking to my friends who are learning other languages talking to my friends. Who were

fluent in two or three or four languages the gap the problem the missing link

Is that school prepares you to pass tests school prepares you to be?

academic to function in the world of academia

But it does not prepare you to function in the real world. So learning English in school

Will help you to be a good student
