English for Fluency - Common Expressions with GET as a Phrasal Verb

Today, I'd like to give you a lesson about the verb to get.

It's used very often by natural English speakers, especially Americans.

We love to use the word get.

We use it usually for three occasions.

First of all, to go, the second to buy, and third to have an opportunity.

So for example, in place of to go, you can say I got to Narra by train or I am getting to Narra by train.

Or I got somewhere.

Which is the same as to go.

Alright, the second way we use is to buy something or to consume, to eat, to drink.

We got some ice cream or we are getting lunch.

We will get some water to drink.

Okay, now the third way you can use to get is to have an opportunity to do something, like, we got to see the big Buddha in Todai-Ji temple.

We are getting to see the Narra Park with lots of wild deer.

We got to see a lot of Narra today.

So, again, three ways you can use the verb to get.

To go somewhere, to buy something or to have the opportunity to do something.

So if you replace those verbs with the verb to get you will sound much more natural, and you can understand natural speakers more if you understand that we use the verb to get in place of these three other verbs.
