How to Say Words Ending in "ed" - American English Pronunciation & Intonation

sound like a native English speaker the

final tip i'll share in this series is

to practice and continue to improve by

listening to the way native speaker some

listening to the way they speak as well

as the rules that they use like we

practiced in the series about how to

shorten things or when you would say a

sound or when you wouldn't often these

are things that you can learn from a

series of videos like this but when you

train yourself to get into the real

world and just listen to the way native

people are speaking it could be in

videos like this or it could be maybe a

movie or just an actual conversation

you're in but if you listen to the way

people speak and then compare that with

your speech you will be able too much

more easily move to the level of a

native speaker for a final bit of

practice will answer what Lucas asked on

and this is what to do when you have an

ed or addy sound ending in a word and

this is about pronouncing things like ed

when they're in the past tense because

native speakers often don't say them

this is another example of reducing the

amount of sounds that we say because the

other person already understands from

the context as an example if a friend of

mine asked me oh how was the movie you

watched yesterday we both know we're

talking about the past the movie that I

saw in the past that happened yesterday

so I can say oh I liked it I liked it I

liked it now I'm come saying I liked it

I liked it I can pronounce it a bit more

clearly like a robot I liked the movie I

liked the movie but this is one of those

things where we're trying to pronounce

it quickly and the other person already

understands we're talking about the past

so I just say I liked it I liked it I

liked it so I've got a little bit of

space in there for the ed I liked it I

liked it I liked it but we're really

just not pronouncing it because the

other person understands what we're

saying I liked it the same thing is oh I

passed my test yesterday I passed my

test yesterday we have that little bit

of space where the D sound would go I

passed my test yesterday I pass

my test yesterday I passed my test

yesterday but we don't have to say it

because people understand what we're

talking about I passed my test yesterday

I passed my test yesterday just like we

practiced in the first video in series

about individual sounds it's important

to know these and this will help you

obviously with your reading and spelling

but really when you're just in a

conversation you want to think about

things in phrases and obviously

addressing the context of the situation

really if the other person knows what

you're talking about that means you can

say less and really pronounce things

much more smoothly well that's the end
