lovely day Wow isn't it lovely I can't believe how nice

the weather has turned out today it is quite incredible Wow amazing so many

things to do before I can connect to you right okay I have to make sure that the

live chat will not break down so there it is I can see it there is just one

thing missing my reading glasses just a moment can you see what I've got

here I've got our lovely cup of coffee to give me some energy on this Sunday

afternoon hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today are

you okay I hope so are you happy well are you

happy I really hope so here we go what a difference 24 hours can make yesterday I

was here in the garden standing alone talking to you and it was raining it was

absolutely throwing it down with rain it was raining very heavily yesterday

during my Saturday livestream yes I'm doing a livestream on Saturday and

Sunday from now on so if you missed it don't worry you can see it again on

my youtube channel hmm let me just enjoy my coffee this is lovely hmm

are you having a hot beverage at the moment or maybe you are having something

very cool I don't know because I'm not there but you can tell me through the

live chat if you really feel like it if you want to share that information with

it is live English and I am with you and here is some important information that

I would like to share with you first now let me show you this this is the bottom

of the YouTube player and if you look very carefully you will see some buttons

and that particular button there is very important that is the caption button so

that button will allow you to see subtitles on my English lessons and if

you are very lucky you can actually have subtitles right now if you are watching

on certain devices you can actually have subtitles now on the screen during the

live stream and of course later there will be live captions from this stream

which will be permanently saved on the video so that is something I'm asked

about quite often so that's the reason why I mentioning it now because I think

it is very important so a lot of people ask mr. Duncan how do we get the

subtitles how do we get the captions on the screen so there you can see there is

what you need to do you can click that button if you are watching on your PC

and there you can see the button to press to get the captions and if you are

very lucky as I just said you can actually get live subtitles as I'm

talking to you now the subtitles will appear on the screen right now or you

have the choice watching later on the replay and there

will be subtitles there for everyone I hope that is cleared that one up because

a lot of people have been asking mr. Duncan mr. Duncan we can't get the

subtitles another thing to mention thank you very much - Louie Mendez for your

message this morning I received an email from Louie who is in France and he was

complaining about the fact that it's very hard to get notified these days

about my live streams and my new lessons and this is a big problem that is

occurring right now on YouTube so many people are complaining to me but in fact

it is YouTube's problem it is their fault so that's the reason why sometimes

when I do my live streams you are not notified however here is one suggestion

that I would like to make right now you can also turn on your notifications so

there is a button on your YouTube settings that will allow you to turn on

your notifications for my channel so you will always be notified when there is a

new video lesson or when there is a new live stream coming up and you will be

told all about it all you have to do is activate your notifications I hope that

is cleared that up because I know that there is a lot of frustration among

YouTube users YouTube viewers and also publishers like myself because there are

many changes taking place on YouTube so I hope I've cleared that up can you see

what I have here I have my lovely towel now during the week I was lying on my

towel I was sunbathing I was relaxing in the

garden and I was also filming a new full English lesson which will be available

on Wednesday next Wednesday there will be a new

full english lesson and you will see quite a lot of this towel during the

Oh No ah ah do you like that so there's an interesting word pro bono

or pro bono which means free of charge and this comes from the latin pro bono

publico which means which actually means for the public good for the public good

so there it is I do all of my lessons I teach on YouTube

pro bono or pro bono and this phrase is often used in the United States to mean

free legal advice so if a lawyer gives you free information or helps you with

your court appearance and if they charge you nothing for it you can say that this

is pro bono work and it comes from the latin in fact it's amazing how many

words in the english language actually are latin so we heavily borrow many

words we sometimes change them but many of them come from latin some come from

french some are germanic it just depends really

so there is an actual bit of Latin which is used in nowadays pro bono you do

something free of charge like I am right now here on YouTube we have lots of

Saturday Sunday live Wednesday full English lesson wow I am such a busy bee

these days oh that's nice the Sun has just come out again

was very busy he was cutting the bushes he was trimming the bushes to make them

look neat and tidy but also he was clearing up all of the hay if you were

this yesterday I was talking about this particular thing that fell from the sky

during the week lots of this fell from the sky because it was very windy and

nearby there was a farmer in his field and he was cutting the grass and all of

the dry hay was blowing away and a lot of it landed here in the garden it was

everywhere but it was very scary at the time because it was just falling from

the sky very strange it was raining hey I've never seen it

before so there you can see this is what fell in the garden during the week lots

are used as idioms and phrases so verbs that are used as idioms and phrases so

when we think of verbs we always think of doing things things that you do you

can walk you can jump you can hop you can break something so all of these

things are types of verbs but also you can use verbs in idioms and phrases so

verbs that are used in idioms and phrases and of course verbs are doing

words they describe an action and that is coming up a little bit later on so

many things have been going on this week here it's been a busy week we've had the

farmers cutting their grass we've had mr. Steve running around the garden

cutting everything because he's feeling very adventurous at the moment Mattia

seen you for a long time the Tanabata festival or star festival originated in

China it is celebrated on the 7th of July as the day approaches colorful and

narrow striped papers are tied to branches of bamboo with tiny wishes so

this must be the day when people make wishes and it's a little bit like

wishing on a star there is a lovely expression in English where you say I I

wish upon a star and maybe it's a very similar thing so this is a festival

that's taking place today in Japan the Tanabata festival otherwise known as

star festival and this involves people tying ribbons to bamboos and on them

there are wishes written down on the paper so that sounds like fern I have

quite a few wishes actually if you would like to wait make some wishes for me

could you please do that could you make some nice wishes for me

thank you very much for that how did you feel when the hay was falling from the

sky I am intrigued well first of all I was very confused I didn't know what was

going on I looked out the window and things were falling from the sky pieces

of hay were falling from the sky literally at the moment on on top of the

house on the roof that it is covered with straw so I think what happened was

that the wind carried the straw into the air and then of course as the wind eased

off it came back down and it just happened to come back down on the house

so you normally make a wish and hang it on a bamboo tree

the legend originated from China so once a year hiccup oh she or ar-rahim are

allowed to meet in the sky I think this might be very similar to something

called butterfly lovers it sounds like a very similar festival or some sort of

expression so two star-crossed lovers who are not allowed to meet are allowed

to be together once a year am i right there because I do remember

english language well first of all can I say that you are in the best place

because you are in England you are in a place where English is spoken all the

time so I would say that you should try to make some friends who speak English

and maybe some close friends who who will give you time who will listen to

what you have to say and if you have any difficulties they might help you but if

you are going to college there might be a group or a club at the college where

you are so if you are studying at college there might actually be a group

at your college where they have an English group where people can practice

their English together so there is my my little tip for you let's have a look at

something different here we go

so verbs that are used as idioms or phrases and there are many you might not

believe it but there are many idioms and phrases expressions if you will that use

verbs in them so I'm going to show you a list of some of the verbs so I will

first of all show you a list of verbs so you have an idea what I'm talking about

and here they are so there is a list of verbs can you see them on your screen

sit stand walk jump throw hop pinch run tie break grab so you can see that there

are quite a few verbs that you can use and believe it or not there are many

that you can use in phrases and idioms I'm going to show you now so I will show

you a couple of them and then we will go back to the live cheat the live chat

agree that the best way to learn a new language is by immersion with plenty of

opportunities to speak and listen to the new language yes it is something I

always say to my students try to make English a part of your life and try to

learn some new words every day talking of words I have some words for you now

and these are verbs the first expression that we use

so there you can see sit sit sit is a verb you sit down but also there is an

expression as well that we can use in English you can sit on your hands sit on

your hands it is a great expression and this particular expression means to take

no action you do nothing to stop something from happening or you are

indecisive you can't come to a decision you take no action you make no decision

you give no opinion you sit on your hands you are inactive you do nothing

about something so there you can see sit on your hands it is an expression that

we use in English to mean do nothing about something you sit there making no

decision you make no plans you do nothing at all you just sit on your

hands a very well-known expression in English we have Kathy hello Kathy it is

green yes it's very green here today you can see the grass is growing rather

nicely behind me everything's looking lovely in fact you might say that this

is the peak so at the moment we are having the peak of summer so this is the

might and curd well you might do something it means there is a

similar meaning it could happen I could see you tomorrow I might see you

tomorrow so there is a possibility of something happening there is a

possibility that that thing will occur it might it could the background is so

idioms are a part of language however they aren't used all the time so don't

forget that so to sit on your hands means to take no action here is another

one we are talking about verbs that can be used in idioms and phrases the next

one is stand stand you stand up you stand something is upright it is

standing so here we go another idiom using stand stand on your own two feet

this expression is used when we want to tell a person that they have to take

care of themselves they have to do everything for themselves they can't

always rely on other people to help them sometimes you have to stand on your own

two feet you have to take care of yourself because quite often there is no

one else around to do it so one of the hardest lessons in life that we have to

learn is that sometimes you have to stand on your own two feet you have to

take control of your life you have take control of your situation you have

to stand on your own two feet stand on your own two feet

you can't keep relying on your family for help it's time that you've started

to stand on your own two feet to take care of yourself it's a beautiful day
