How to Say 7 Famous British Names Perfectly (e.g. Sherlock Holmes, Ed Sheeran, etc.)

Do you know how to say these very famous British names correctly? Stay tuned, I'm going to

show you how.

Today we're looking at seven famous British names and how to say them correctly. Let's

start off with Britain's most famous detective.

Sherlock Holmes. I don't know about you guys but I'm addicted to the TV series Sherlock.

If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's amazing. Alright, so how do we say Sherlock?

Right, two sounds Sher just like shirt and then lock Sherlock. Sherlock Holmes. Now don't

worry about the L in Holmes, we don't pronounce it. So think of it, the spelling like this

almost. Holmes, Sherlock Holmes. Alright very good.

Now what about the name of the actor. How do you say his name?

Benedict Cumberbatch, that's it right? Benedict Cumberbatch I think that's it. I don't know.

Next one, it's the wizard himself Harry Potter. Now there are a few things that learners might

find difficult. I know that in some languages the H at the beginning so Harry Potter is

one thing. And then for other languages where to stress the name so I'll say it again for

you guys Harry Potter. The two main actors in that, we've got Daniel Radcliffe and Emma

Watson.

Ok, we're going to look at Britain's most famous spy Bond James Bond. Ok, now James

Bond is the name. Now actually I don't think his name is that difficult James Bond that's

ok. I think the hardest thing is his number. How do you say his number correctly? Ok, the

way to say it correctly, double o seven. You'll hear it in the movies. They'll say 'Welcome

double o seven' and yeah that's often how they refer to him. It sounds so cool when

you say his name Bond James Bond. It kind of doesn't work when it's your name. Rees

Tom Rees. It doesn't quite sound as cool.

Next one, one of Britain's most incredible singers Adele. Now the key here, the key thing

here is the stress. So it's not A dele, it's Adele. So the A there is a schwa sound and

it's Adele. So 'what's your favourite Adele song?'

He's one of Britain's most recognisable faces David Beckham. Now the key thing here again

is the spelling isn't the same as the pronunciation. So for example that H don't say it. It's not

Beck Ham it's Beckham, David Beckham. Often in the media here he's known as Becks just

Becks. It's like his nickname, Becks but I call him David Beckham.

One of Britain's most famous singers right now especially around the world Ed Sheeran.

I can't believe how massive he is. Every where I go I can hear his songs. I was in Norway

recently and I was in a bar and his song came on, I couldn't believe it, unbelievable. Anyway,

so again the stress of his name is very important. So it's Ed Sheeran. Shall we get that one

again? Sheeran, Ed Sheeran. Ok guys, tell me in the comments below which is your favourite

Finally Britain's most famous person ever ever ever probably Shakespeare. Think about

Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth I mean incredible. Ok, so how do we say his name? It looks difficult,

very hard, it looks hard , it's actually quite easy, ok? So if we slow it down, Shakespeare.

And then the stress is on the first syllable. Shakespeare. Ok, you try. Shakespeare.
