basically we always get nervous when we speak  in English so some phrases you can use are  

in pratica siamo sempre nervosi quando parliamo in inglese quindi alcune frasi che potete usare sono

bear with me if you're speaking  in front of a group of people  

abbi pazienza se stai parlando di fronte a un gruppo di persone

and maybe you're feeling a little anxious about it

e forse ti senti un po' in ansia

you can definitely use this phrase  to ask people to be patient with  

puoi sicuramente usare questa frase per chiedere alle persone di essere pazienti con

you just to buy yourself a little bit more time  

te solo per guadagnare un po' più di tempo

it's like to say be patient with me but of  course it is a more advanced way to say it  

è mi piace dire sii paziente con me ma ovviamente è un modo più avanzato per dirlo

now it can be really nerve-wracking when someone  asks you a question that you don't know the answer

ora può essere davvero snervante quando qualcuno ti fa una domanda di cui non conosci la risposta

especially if it's in a professional context you  might just freeze and have no idea what to say  

soprattutto se è in un contesto professionale che potresti rimani bloccato e non ho idea di cosa dire

but there is an easy solution  and that's this phrase right here

I'm not sure about that actually but I can find  out it works really well and sounds advanced

or when you don't remember something  you can say it's on the tip of my tongue

o quando non ricordi qualcosa che posso dire che ce l'ho sulla punta della lingua

or I had something I wanted to say but  I've lost it hopefully it'll come back

oppure che volevo dire qualcosa ma l'ho perso spero che ritorni indietro

it can feel embarrassing if you're being harsh

to yourself but you can play it  cool with this phrase right here

another phrase do you mind if I jump  in it is used to interrupt someone  

un'altra frase ti dispiace se mi intrometto si usa per interrompere qualcuno

for example if you're listening to two people  talking about a specific topic and you don't agree

ad esempio se stai ascoltando due persone che parlano di un argomento specifico e non sei d'accordo

and you want to share your opinion then  you say sorry do you mind if I just jump in

e vuoi condividere la tua opinione allora chiedi scusa, fallo ti dispiace se mi intrometto

or when you want to ask something instead  of saying can I ask you a question

o quando vuoi chiedere qualcosa invece di dire posso farti una domanda

you can say I hope you don't  mind me asking but for example

puoi dire spero che non ti dispiaccia se te lo chiedo ma per esempio

I hope you don't mind me asking but  how old are you that sounds much better

spero che non ti dispiaccia se te lo chiedo ma quanti anni hai sei tu che suona molto meglio

oh gosh what about when you forget something  that you know you shouldn't have forgotten

oh cavolo, che ne dici di quando dimentichi qualcosa che sai che non avresti dovuto dimenticare,

for example a person's name instead of saying  I'm sorry I forgot your name what is it  

ad esempio il nome di una persona invece di dire mi dispiace, ho dimenticato il tuo nome, cos'è che

in fact that sounds a little rude well  you can use a different expression

suona un po' maleducato beh puoi usare un'espressione diversa

you can say my apologies I've completely  forgotten your name that's much better

puoi dire le mie scuse ho completamente dimenticato il tuo nome è molto meglio

now if you're in a conversation with a bunch of  native English speakers or Advanced English users  

ora se stai conversando con un gruppo di madrelingua inglesi o utenti di inglese avanzato

then they might be speaking really quickly  and those words that you can't fully hear

or words you don't recognize and you  just feel like you're in over your head

then you can say I have to admit this is a little  beyond me you're saying it's too much for you

or you can say I can't follow along let's end  it okay to end a conversation really fast if

someone asked for your opinion about a topic and  you don't actually feel able to talk about it you

can say it's interesting listening to you talk but  to be honest I don't know much about this topic

I've never really thought about this much before  but I'm enjoying listening to you talk about it

ci avevo mai pensato molto prima ma mi fa piacere ascoltarti mentre ne parli

it's pretty hard to express my ideas about  this topic in English but I'll try my best

è piuttosto difficile esprimere le mie idee su questo argomento in inglese ma ci proverò faccio del mio meglio

I'm not well versed on this topic so I'd rather  haul off on saying anything until I know a bit  

non sono esperto in questo argomento quindi preferisco rimandare qualsiasi cosa finché non ne so qualcosa di più

more those expressions sounds much better than  just saying I don't know or I don't remember

quelle espressioni suonano molto meglio che dire semplicemente non lo so o non ricordo

now when there is a misunderstanding  there are some phrases you can use like  

ora quando c'è un malinteso ci sono alcune frasi che puoi usare come

I think you may have misunderstood what I  said instead of you didn't understand me  

penso che potresti aver frainteso quello che ho detto invece non mi hai capito

or I didn't mean to say that what I meant  was and then explain it in a different way  

oppure non intendevo dire che quello che intendevo era e poi spiegarlo in modo diverso

or I'm sorry for the confusion what  I actually meant was and you continue

oppure io scusami per la confusione quello che intendevo in realtà era e tu continui

also you can use an idiom like I  think we've got our wires crossed

anche tu puoi usare un modo di dire come penso che ora abbiamo incrociato i fili

now when you want to apologize and  explain a misunderstanding you can use

quando vuoi scusarti e spiegare un malinteso puoi usare

you seem upset did I say something wrong that  definitely didn't come out right I'm so sorry  

sembri arrabbiato ho detto qualcosa sbagliato, sicuramente non è venuto bene, mi dispiace tanto

or I can't completely understand why your  heart and I'm deeply sorry for what I said

oppure non riesco a capire del tutto il motivo del tuo cuore e mi dispiace profondamente per quello che ho detto

that sounds like a little more tragic  but it will depend on what you have said

che suona un po' più tragico ma dipenderà da quello che hai detto

now let's imagine you don't want to talk about  a specific topic maybe you're uncomfortable

ora immaginiamo che non vuoi parlare di un argomento specifico forse ti senti a disagio

then you can say I'd rather not talk  about this if that's okay it is polite

allora puoi dire che preferirei non parlarne se va bene è educato

now if you want to be rude then you can  say can you stop being an idiot please

ora se vuoi essere scortese allora puoi dire puoi smetterla di essere un idiota per favore

when someone says something we feel  uncomfortable about you can use that expression

quando qualcuno dice qualcosa che ci fa sentire a disagio per te puoi usare questa espressione

or if it's a difficult topic for you  you say this topic hits close to home  

o se è un argomento difficile per te dici che questo argomento ti tocca da vicino

it's still for me to talk about  if you want to be more direct you

can say I don't mean to sound rude  but that isn't any of your business

that's a really personal question  I'm not comfortable answering that

I think your upper stepping boundaries with  that question I'd rather not answer that

if you want to end the conversation  completely you're just not interested

in talking about this then you could say
