Now when you learn expressions, you need  to pay attention to the individual words.

So here we have get down to business.

You need to make sure that  you use the correct words

and you conjugate your verb, in this case, get.

So let's talk about how you would  use this expression at work.

Well, when you're having a business meeting,  it's very common to start with some small talk.

Small talk is conversation about the weather, what  you did last night, the weekend, current events.

잡담은 날씨, 어젯밤에 한 일, 주말, 최근 사건에 대한 대화입니다.

It's not about the main topic.

주요 주제에 관한 것이 아닙니다.

So maybe you have some small talk for 5 minutes  and then whoever's leading the meeting can say,

All right everyone, let's  get down to Business Today.

We're going to and then you will  start discussing the main purpose

of that meeting or the main topic of that meeting.

This is a must no expression  because you can hear it and

use it at almost every business meeting you go to.

Our next expression is to touch base.

다음 표현은 touch base입니다.

When you touch base with someone, it means you  briefly connect or communicate with someone  

누군가와 접촉한다는 것은 누군가와 잠시 연결하거나 소통한다는 의미이며,

and you do that to share or receive updates or  to schedule a longer conversation or meeting.

업데이트를 공유하거나 수신하거나 더 긴 대화나 회의를 예약하기 위해 그렇게 한다는 의미입니다.

For example, have you touched  base with the client yet?

예를 들어 고객과 접촉한 적이 있나요?

So notice our verb is touch, so of  course you need to conjugate that verb.

따라서 동사가 접촉이라는 점에 유의하세요. 따라서 해당 동사를 활용해야 합니다.

What's the verb tense in this example?

이 예에서 동사 시제는 무엇입니까?

Have you touched base with the client yet?

아직 클라이언트와 접촉을 해본 적이 있나요?

It's the present perfect in question  form, so you have to conjugate that verb.

의문문 형태에서는 현재완료이므로 해당 동사를 활용해야 합니다.

Now if someone asks you that, have  you touched base with the client yet?

이제 누군가가 당신에게 그런 질문을 한다면, 고객과 접촉한 적이 있나요?

With someone, they're asking if you have connected  with that client or if you've had a conversation,  

누군가와 함께라면 그 고객과 연결되었는지, 대화를 나눴는지 묻습니다. 그 사람과

even if it was only a 2 minute  conversation with that person.

단 2분 동안의 대화라도 말이죠 .

Now an important note is that native  speakers love turning verbs into nouns,  

이제 중요한 점은 원어민 이 동사를 명사로 바꾸는 것을 좋아한다는 것입니다.

and we do that with this verb to touch base.

우리는 이 동사를 사용하여 베이스를 터치합니다.

We turn it into a noun and I could say  let's have a quick touch base tomorrow  

우리는 그것을 명사로 바꾸며 내일 빠른 터치 베이스를 갖자고 말할 수 있습니다.

to discuss the conference notice here  it's a touch base, a quick touch base.

A touch base is a quick meeting or  a quick conversation with someone.

So you can use this as a verb to touch base or

as a noun to sound more like  a native speaker touch base.

Now let's talk about the idiom to  be on the same page as someone.

This is an idiom that means you have a shared  agreement or understanding about something.

이는 어떤 것에 대해 공유된 합의나 이해가 있음을 의미하는 관용어입니다.

So if you're on the same page as someone, it  means you both agree or you both disagree,  

따라서 누군가와 같은 페이지에 있다는 것은 둘 다 동의하거나 동의하지 않음을 의미

but your understanding is the same  whether that's positive or negative.

하지만, 긍정적이든 부정적이든 이해하는 내용은 동일합니다.

This is very commonly used in business  meetings where you might be discussing  

이는

a plan of action or a proposal, or an idea,  and then someone says are we on the same page

and that person is asking if everyone  agrees that you should do something,

So maybe at the conference someone suggested  that you should cancel the conference

And then later this person could say,

Notice the verb is the verb to be,  so you need to conjugate that verb.

Now let's talk about to brainstorm.

이제 브레인스토밍에 대해 이야기해 보겠습니다.

Do you know this one to brainstorm?

브레인스토밍을 위한 이 항목을 알고 있나요?

This is the concept of generating  creative ideas through group discussion.

그룹 토론을 통해 창의적인 아이디어를 창출한다는 개념입니다.

I personally love brainstorming.

저는 개인적으로 브레인스토밍을 좋아합니다.

I love the creativity of just sharing ideas,  

저는 아이디어를 공유하고,

trying to solve problems, trying to  think of something new with other people.

문제를 해결하려고 노력하고, 다른 사람들과 새로운 것을 생각하려고 노력하는 창의성을 좋아합니다.

Now this is another verb that native speakers  love using as a noun, A brainstorming session.

이제 이것은 원어민들이 명사로 사용하는 것을 좋아하는 또 다른 동사인 A 브레인스토밍 세션입니다.

Notice how you have to add session.

세션을 추가하는 방법에 주목하세요.

It wouldn't sound right to say a  brainstorm A brainstorm session.

브레인스토밍 브레인스토밍 세션이라고 말하는 것은 옳지 않은 것 같습니다.

That's acceptable.

그것은 허용됩니다.

But it's more common to say  a brainstorming session.

So to add ING to brainstorm a  brainstorming session with the verb.

You could say we brainstormed  a lot of great ideas yesterday.

So as the verb, it's in the past.

Or you could say we had a very  productive brainstorming session.

Our next expression is to think outside the box.

When you think outside the box,

it means that you think creatively and  you also consider unconventional ideas.

창의적으로 생각하고 틀에 얽매이지 않는 아이디어도 고려한다는 의미입니다.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you will do  something unconventional, but you'll consider it.

반드시 관습에 얽매이지 않는 일을 하겠다는 뜻은 아니지만, 고려해 볼 것입니다.

And brainstorming sessions can be a lot  more fun when you think outside the box.

그리고 고정관념에서 벗어나 생각하면 브레인스토밍 세션이 훨씬 더 재미있을 수 있습니다.

So let's say you have an ambitious  goal like doubling your sales.

매출을 두 배로 늘리는 것과 같은 야심찬 목표가 있다고 가정해 보겠습니다.

You might be at a brainstorming session  

브레인스토밍 세션에 참석 중일 수도

and someone could say if we're going to double  our sales, we need to think outside the box.

있고 판매를 두 배로 늘리려면 고정 관념에서 벗어나 생각해야 한다고 누군가 말할 수도 있습니다.

So you need to think creatively and consider  unconventional ways to double your sales.

따라서 창의적으로 생각하고 매출을 두 배로 늘리기 위한 색다른 방법을 고려해야 합니다.

And thankfully, a lot of students are thinking  

그리고 고맙게도 많은 학생들이

outside the box when it comes to  ways to improve their English.

영어 실력을 향상할 수 있는 방법에 관해 고정관념에서 벗어나 생각하고 있습니다.

The more traditional way was to study  a textbook, memorize grammar rules,  

보다 전통적인 방법은 교과서를 공부하고, 문법 규칙을 암기하고,

memorize vocabulary list, and  study this textbook for hours.

어휘 목록을 암기하고, 이 교과서를 몇 시간 동안 공부하는 것이었습니다.

But now you can have a more  unconventional approach.

하지만 이제는 좀 더 색다른 접근 방식을 사용할 수 있습니다.

You can think outside the box and do  things like watch a YouTube video or  

고정관념에서 벗어나 YouTube 동영상을 보거나

study a native speaker on TV or in movies and  use that to improve your listening skills and  

TV나 영화에서 원어민을 공부하는 등의 일을 할 수 있으며 이를 사용하여 듣기 능력을 향상하고 음성에

add expressions to your speech so you  sound exactly like the native speaker.

표현을 추가하여 원어민과 똑같이 말할 수 있습니다.

And actually that's exactly what my  students do in the finally Fluent Academy.

실제로 이것이 바로 Fluent Academy에서 제 학생들이 하는 일입니다.

And I really thought outside the box when  I designed this program because I know that

traditional language programs don't get results  and they take a very long time to get any results.

Let's talk about the bottom line.

This is the most important  result or outcome or topic.

For example, the report had 33 recommendations,

but the bottom line is we need  to reduce our operating costs.

So the bottom line, that's the most important

So let's say you're very busy, but one of your  colleagues or employees comes to you and says,

do you want to hear about the meeting yesterday?

어제 회의에 대해 듣고 싶나요?'라고 말한다고 가정해 보겠습니다.

And you could say just give me the bottom line.

그리고 나에게 최종 결과를 알려주라고 말할 수도 있습니다.

So you're asking that employee  to just give you the main result,  

따라서 귀하는 그 직원에게 주요 결과,

the main outcome or the main topic.

주요 결과 또는 주요 주제만 알려달라고 요청하는 것입니다.

Our next expression is a great one  to call it a day, to call it a day.

다음 표현은 하루라고 부르기에 좋은 표현입니다.

And this is used to say that you  decide to finish work for the day.

그리고 이는 그날의 일을 끝내기로 결정했다는 의미로 사용됩니다.

So let's say you're scheduled  to finish work at 5:00 PM.

그럼 오후 5시에 업무를 마치기로 예정되어 있다고 가정해 보겠습니다.

That's the scheduled end of your work day.

그것이 예정된 근무일의 종료 시간입니다.

And let's say today you have a brainstorming  session scheduled from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

So an all day brainstorming  session now around 3:30 PM.

Maybe your boss could say we generated  a lot of amazing ideas today.

I know, everyone's exhausted,  so let's call it a day.

This next expression will help you sound  very natural to keep someone in the loop.

This is when you keep someone informed  

about something specific or you  include someone in communication.

This is commonly used in e-mail  and you'll see someone right.

If your boss sends you an e-mail  and says please keep me in the loop,  

상사가 귀하에게 이메일을 보내 계속 소식을 전해달라는 것은

it means that your boss wants you to inform  them about whatever that specific topic is.

귀하의 상사가 특정 주제에 대해 귀하가 그들에게 알리기를 원한다는 의미입니다.

So perhaps is please keep me in the  loop on the status of the report.

따라서 신고 상태를 지속적으로 확인하시기 바랍니다. 보고서 상태에 대해

Notice we use the preposition on and then  the something on the status of the report.

전치사 on을 사용한 다음 무엇인가를 사용합니다.

We also use this to inform someone that  we will share information with them.

For example, I'm having a touch  base with the client today.

Notice a touch base as the noun.

명사로 터치 베이스가 있음을 확인하세요.

I'm having a touch base with the client today.

오늘은 클라이언트와 터치베이스를 갖고 있어요.

Let's talk about how to use to bring someone  up to speed, a very important expression.

누군가에게 최신 정보를 제공하는 데 사용하는 방법에 대해 이야기해 보겠습니다 .

When you bring someone up to speed,  

누군가에게 최신 정보를 제공한다는 것은

it means you inform that person  about recent updates or developments.

해당 사람에게 최근 업데이트나 개발 사항을 알리는 것을 의미합니다.

So let's say someone was sick and  they were off work for two days.

그럼 누군가가 아파서 이틀 동안 회사를 쉬었다고 가정해 보겠습니다.

So that person's knowledge is 2 days old.

따라서 그 사람의 지식은 2일 전입니다.

They don't know what has happened for the  last two days, so when they get back to  

그들은 지난 이틀 동안 무슨 일이 일어났는지 모르기 때문에

work after they recover, they might  ask you to bring them up to speed.

I was off sick for two days.

Let's talk about the phrasal verb to follow up,  and you follow up with someone on something.

This is when you continue communication  after an initial conversation.

For example, I sent the client the proposal  last week, but I haven't heard back.

I'll follow up today.

So you had an initial conversation  with that client about the proposal.
