LIE, LAY, LIED, LAID Meaning and Examples

Today I’m gonna teach you the difference between Lie, Lay, and Lied. 

오늘은 Lie, Lay, Lied의 차이점에 대해 알려드리겠습니다.

Lay means put something down on the surface in a flat position

Lay는 평평한 자세로 표면에 무언가를 내려놓는 것을 의미합니다.

Laid is a past form of Lay. I laid my book on the table.

Lay는 Lay의 과거형입니다. 나는 내 책을 탁자 위에 올려놓았다.

The verb Lie means that you  put yourself in a horizontal 

거짓말이라는 동사는 수평

or resting position.

또는 휴식 자세를 취하는 것을 의미합니다.

I like to lie on the couch  and watch videos on Youtube.

나는 소파에 누워 YouTube에서 동영상을 보는 것을 좋아합니다.

But there’s a very confusing thing. The past form of Lie is Lay.

그러나 매우 혼란스러운 점이 있습니다. Lie의 과거형은 Lay입니다.

Yesterday I lay on the couch  and watched videos on Youtube.

어제는 소파에 누워 YouTube 동영상을 봤습니다.

Also the verb Lie has another meaning which is to say false, 

또한 동사 Lie에는 거짓이라고 말하는 것,

to deceive someone, to tell some untrue statements.

누군가를 속이는 것, 사실 이 아닌 진술을 하는 것 등의 또 다른 의미가 있습니다.

For example: Don't lie to me. I know the truth. And the past tense and past participle is lied,

예: 나에게 거짓말하지 마세요. 나는 진실을 안다. 그리고 과거 시제와 과거 분사는 거짓말입니다. 예를 들면 다음과 같습니다

for example: She lied about her age.

. 그녀는 나이에 대해 거짓말을 했습니다.

As a noun lie means untrue if you know the true,  

명사 거짓말은 당신이 진실을 안다면 사실이 아님을 의미하고,

and someone is convincing you to believe in some misleading facts,  

누군가가 당신이 오해의 소지가 있는 사실을 믿도록 설득하고 있다면,

you can say: That’s a lie.

당신은 다음과 같이 말할 수 있습니다: 그것은 거짓말입니다.
