so if I want to use like I didn't  play so I can talk about like any  

time in in the past let's say right  at this point so I was 10 years old

and uh and I got I got like a  video like a Nintendo you know  

I've got Mario or something like that so I got

Mario all right so at this point in time  

I didn't play Mario because I I didn't have the  game so I didn't play Mario I didn't play Mario  

okay and you can be more specific like I didn't  play Mario until I was 10 years old so I didn't  

play Mario until I was 10 years old and so it's a  it's a slight difference in the meaning but we're  

talking about the activity so I did not do that  thing I did not play so I got I was born here I'm  

zero and I'm 10 years old and this whole time I  did not play Mario I had not I like I didn't have  

the uh like a Nintendo or something but until  so until this time I had not played that all  

right so again I can change this and talk about  uh the experience of that so I had not played  

all right so I had not played Mario until I  was 10 years old so you can say both of these  

things but the meaning is is slightly different  one is talking about the activity and one is  

talking about me as having the experience okay so  it's basically the same thing it's just are you  

talking about the activity like playing Mario  are you talking about me having the activity  

or having the experience whenever we're talking  about have in that way we're just talking about  

me having an experience doing something but  this is how you can use these in like they're  

similar but when we talk about I had not and  then we can make it shorter as hadn't so here  

I hadn't I had not played that I did not have  the experience of playing Mario and I can also  

say I didn't play so just a simpler way is like I  didn't play here and I did play here so I did not

and did okay and here I can say I had not

or I had okay so I had played Mario uh and  then I can talk about like maybe if I want  

to be like even even more complicated I want  to explain it a little bit further maybe we  

have three time periods here so here I had  not played Mario and then I got a Nintendo  

so this is maybe from like age 10 to age 13  or something and so I had played I had played

I had played over here but then  I stopped so I don't play anymore  

all right so it just depends on what you're  talking about but it's important not to think  

about the vocabulary you want to think about  the situation first so are we talking about the  

activity or are you talking about yourself  and you're kind of describing yourself as  

having an experience okay so when you have an  experience it becomes a part of you just like  

your memories are a part of you okay so my green  eyes you can see that physically you can't see my  

experiences but I can tell you about them like I  have like I have experience doing something okay  

so I had not done something and then I had  and then maybe I I stopped doing that thing
