hi there I'm drew badger the world's

advance to listening practice less and

i'm pretty excited today I'm excited

everyday when i get to get in the studio

and record some interesting lessons for

you and this one actually I wanted to

talk about the studio itself because I

get lots of questions and comments from

learner so I thought well it's just talk

about where we are and why I have this

background behind me and you know maybe

a few other things but specifically a

couple of people and there will always

be people maybe they disliked video for

one reason or another i can make the

best video ever and they're always just

be some haters out there so if you are a

hater and you want to click the dislike

button that's okay i understand but if

you like the video and you like what I'm

doing

click that like button instead actually

if you are a hater

well I guess if you're a hater you

probably won't have a good reason for

disliking the video but if you do

dislike it let me know why because

that's you know the best way for me to

help improve what we do here so that i

can help you become a much better fluent

confident English speaker well in this

video what I wanted to talk about is the

background that we have here now if you

go back and look at some of the videos

that we've done before you can see I've

experimented with different things I

actually have a green screen that i can

use and produce videos for those videos

obviously take more time to produce

because they're kind of technical things

that you have to do and making sure the

video is working properly but when

people are saying you know if you have a

more kind of friendly background you

know i would love to have like I like

watching actually the space specifically

like the videos that women use that are

like bloggers and I have a really great

room it's typically like their bedroom

and they got like a soft bed and nice

lighting in the background and

everything just looks like a very

inviting place now my background looks

really boring i'm sorry about that

now again the on the other side of this

is a curtain that you can go back and

look at some of the previous videos and

you'll see that we have a curtain behind

me but because of the color of the

curtain it blends in with my face so I

kind of look like a chameleon a little

bit so I figured this was better

for highlighting my beautiful face and

it's much easier for people to see what

i'm doing and what i'm talking about

so the when people are saying he like

you should have a better background or I

like the background that you have I

think both of those opinions are great

and it's nice for us to change things up

this is a really great phrasal verb to

change things but it just sounds more

conversationally native EP say i want to

change something in my life you can also

say i want to change things up in my

life it's making it a bit more friendly

and conversational so in this case it's

fun to change up the background and do

different things but also the main

reason I'm doing this is number one

because it's easiest to see me of the

background that I've used thus far and

its really the fastest way for me to

produce content to help you become

fluent really faster as well so the kind

of bigger message here the more

important thing about the the lesson

itself here from the background not that

it really matters what background i'm

using maybe it does

as far as trying to help me have a

better channel such that i can help more

people but the more important lesson and

this is really the thing I want you to

remember is that i'm using what i have

at the time and not making excuses or

waiting until I have the ultimate thing

like I go to some place where i can set

up a really nice set a really nice stage

and have a bed behind me and you know

other things like that i don't know what

specifically that would be for me I

think if i had to create the ideal setup

for me would probably me like sitting on

a rug

I really like the idea of that and

having people like sitting around making

it more of a conversation you notice I

don't wear a suit and a tie because I

don't really want people to be learning

that way i want to keep things very

casual and friendly and maybe hope that

other people are also not having to

think about that way when they're in a

situation where they have to speak

English as well because especially in

English rather than a language like

Japanese you can be much more

conversational and I guess more friendly

and the language is not so formal as it

would be in a language like Japanese so

for here really the important lesson is

using what you have and not thinking

okay I have to wait until my english is

a certain love

all in order to get out in practice in

the same way that i have to wait until I

have a really great background or really

great set for shooting these videos in

order to produce them if you go back and

look at the maybe from a few years ago

when I was producing our first videos

for YouTube it's just me sitting in a

room with nothing special i was using

the webcam from my computer to record

and again I was really maybe thinking

okay these aren't the nicest looking

lessons I could be producing and that's

why I got a better camera i mean again

in this way i'm actually still using the

same camera that i was using when i

first started recording and so these are

the kinds of things that you should be

thinking about in the same way that

yeah it would be nice to have a better

background i guess if i can find

something maybe you can design something

for me or recommend something that would

be appropriate for this channel I don't

know exactly what it would be but me

sitting on like a nice persian rug like

I really like those I've got those like

back in my place in chicago but i really

like that atmosphere where people can

sit around and relax in a more

comfortable way and that's again why I'm

trying to do this but for you personally

and for me I'm trying to give you not

just examples of the language and how to

speak but more life examples in about

specific things you should be doing in

order to have a more successful life and

a big part of that is not waiting until

you have a perfect situation or a

perfect setup in order to do something

you want to be taking action as quickly

as possible and in my case for making

these videos it means how can i create

create very quickly a background that's

nice and easy so i can make a bunch of

videos with a lot of great content to

help you learn faster

it would be nice to be able to sit in my

apartment where I live here in Japan and

just be able to have my own studio but

we just don't have the space and more

importantly we have a young daughter so

when my daughter Arya is walking around

and screaming and making noise it's

really difficult to try to record in the

house so taking these pieces that are

required or i guess that we just have to

deal with we make do with that this is

another great phrase that I've talked

about that

or to make do with something this just

means to use whatever resources you have

and try to use those to the best of your

ability to make do with that so I'm just

making do with the situation that i have

and that situation is I've got this

studio here the most important thing to

me is that we've got really good sound

because this is language learning and if

you can't hear what I'm saying that I'm

Brad doesn't really make much sense

the second thing after that is how I

look and then how like the background

looks anything like that so thinking

about all these things remember the idea

is not to wait until things are perfect

the idea is to take action and when you

see me doing something especially if

it's not perfect it's because I value

taking action more than I value being

perfect so when you get into

conversations and you think i didn't

really remember this i don't know i

don't really remember my speech so well

just get into that thing and that's the

the the spirit of getting into something

that's what's going to give you a lot

more confidence so even if you make a

mistake you become excited about the

fact that you're just taking action the

action itself is the thing that you

should be excited about you reward your

body with a lot of praise yes very good

you just decided to take action

drew very good you found a recording

studio you can get in and start

recording lessons but maybe it's not

ideal or we could make it better but for

now it's okay so think about how you can

get excited and inspired to take action

and that will help you become a

confident fluent speaker much faster if

you do have ideas about the background

let me know but unless it makes it even

easier for me to do what I do to help

more people learn or would help like

billions more people then I'm probably

not going to change what I do but I'm

always open again in different

situations and suggestions
