FRIDAY ENGLISH CHAT - live from England - with Mr Duncan / Listen and Learn

oh hello there hi everybody this is mr duncan in england how are you today are you okay

i hope so are you happy i hope you're happy today here is something a little different

i wasn't expecting to be here today but yes i have decided to come on for a short while

to say hi and hello to everyone i hope you are okay i know this is a surprise i'm sure

some of you were not expecting to see me today on the live stream but yes i am here and yes

i do i do need to make some slight changes to the appearance of my live stream so if

you would give me a couple of moments i will make a couple of changes and then i will be

back with you all right don't go away

okay shall i try again let's see if we have some more success this time here we go then

yes it is friday don't worry there is nothing wrong with your calendar i am here on friday

just for something a little different now the reason why i'm doing my little live stream

today is because i wasn't with you on wednesday i went out on wednesday and my intention was

to do a live stream from the centre of the town in which i live you see but unfortunately

the weather was so bad it was freezing cold and it was raining the weather was horrendous

so sadly i had to cancel that i had to come back home i was freezing cold so that's the

reason why i was not with you on wednesday so today i thought i would come on for a short

time i am not outside i am in the cozy warmth of the house i am enjoying my lovely warm

surroundings even though i am next to the window so behind me you can see outside everything

is looking rather grey at the moment it is not a very nice day to be honest and earlier

i went into town with mr steve we went to see one of our friends so one of our friends

came to have a little bit of lunch and because all of the restaurants and many of the shops

have now reopened here in england we were able to sit down for a while and have a nice

chat so that was lovely as well so now i'm back home and i thought um shall i do a live

stream so that is what i'm doing right now as you can see so i suppose the big question

is do we have the live chat oh i wonder who is here because this is very unusual you see

i don't normally do live streams on friday even though interestingly enough i used to

do my live streams on friday when i first started doing them way back in 2016 so when

i started doing my live streams i did actually do them on friday they were they were usually

on every friday so here we are yes i hope you can hear me all right i hope you can see

me okay i'm not in the studio i'm in the lounge and behind me you can see the gray landscape

because many people will not be able to meet and join together to celebrate the christmas

is pure wool 100 wool and it feels so lovely and warm on my body it really does the christmas

now i have my christmas lights on the front of the house and on wednesday night i actually

switched them on so yes my christmas lights are now lighting up the sky and all of the

surrounding area i'm not sure if my neighbors like them to be honest i don't know i'm not

sure at least they haven't complained yet can you imagine that can you imagine someone

actually complaining about a person's christmas lights can you imagine someone doing that

a certain amount of freedom during the christmas period so i think it's between december the

23rd and december the 28th so during that period of time people will be able to mix

so families will be able to join together so as i understand it they are actually going

to relax all of the restrictions for five days over christmas and that's what's happening

but you might find also that there are people who have maybe unusual appearances maybe they

have something that makes them look different from other people so i don't think it's always

about being attractive but maybe sometimes a person might look slightly unusual and that

also can be a good thing you see

maybe that's why i'm not very popular you see on youtube maybe i'm not handsome enough

the things that is really annoying about wearing a face mask is when you have one with a beard

thunder snow yes yes it is a very unusual thing that happens sometimes when when you

have snow and thunder at the same time it's a very unusual occurrence

slowly this is my normal speaking pace or speed i don't normally talk too fast or else

people won't understand what i'm saying

how do we decide which words to use when we have lots of choices of synonyms that is a

very good question i always say that the types of words that you use depends on the type

of writing that you are doing you see so if you're writing something formal then sometimes

it is better to use words that sound formal but again with practice you will slowly understand

how certain words are used more often than others you see so for example today i might

say that the weather today is cold and dull well that was a great word you could use those

words but also you could say today is gloomy and cold gloomy you see so you have a choice

of words sometimes we use certain words because they have more meaning they they might have

more impact especially when you're writing you see so when you are writing quite often

it is important to use the right words in the right way but yes you are right there

are many words in the english language that can be used in different ways you are right

and sometimes one word can have many other synonyms you are right

are blocked anyway so certain words you are not allowed to use anyway but also we have

imagine somebody taking their toll it means they are taking the payment well you can say

that about anything really you might say that the strong wind took its toll on my roof so

that means that the wind damaged my roof it did the thing that might cause damage the

event it took its toll we can also say the same thing about disease as well if you get

ill if you become ill with a certain disease we can say that it takes its toll on your
