Learn the English Phrases SINGLE FILE and ALPHABETICAL ORDER - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

In this English lesson, I want to help you learn

the English phrase single file.

We use the phrase single file

when we are talking about lining up.

So if you go somewhere and you need to stand in a line,

there's a couple of different ways that you can line up,

and I will tell you a couple of them today.

One way is single file, and that's when you stand

right behind the person in front of you.

Right now, when you line up single file, though,

there needs to be about two meters

between you and the next person.

So when you line up single file,

you stand directly behind just one person in front of you,

and the next person stands behind you.

Sometimes you don't have to line up, though.

Sometimes you go somewhere and you can take a number.

When I go to renew my license, I can just take a number.

They have a little thing that gives out numbers,

and when they call my number,

then I can go up and get the service that I need.

So back to single file, though,

this is when you line up with one person in front of you

and one person behind.

You can also line up single file,

and also in alphabetical order.

When I was a kid at school,

we would play outside before school would start,

and when the bell went, we were to line up in single file

in alphabetical order by last name,

before we could go into the school.

So alphabetical order would be,

you look at whatever your name is

and the letter that your last name starts with,

and then you would make sure that all of the letters

that come in front of you in the alphabet,

those people are in front of you,

and all of the people who have letters

that come after your letter in the alphabet

would be behind you.
