and welcome to this video that's being recorded

by the church on Church Street.

And the reason I'm here is because

it's the perfect time of the year right now.

And I found this very nice spot

which hopefully is going to be quiet enough

to talk about the fact that everyone says

"I want to learn English."

So this is the number one message I receive from learners.

In fact, when I tell people to send me a message

by email, or on Facebook Messenger,

I usually get the message

"Hi, I want to learn English. Can you help me?"

And I understand this.

You know, I say this all the time.

I use want all the time.

I want to have more money.

I want to have more time.

I want to be in better shape.

But if you keep saying this,

if you keep thinking about the level you want,

then, you're going to become unhappy.

And that's because you're going to compare

your level of English now to the level you want to have.

And that difference is going to make you feel down.

So, instead of keep saying this, instead of focusing on

the desire.

Instead of focusing on the level you want to have,

set your intentions and do things

that are going to make you improve.

So focus on what you can actually do to improve.

So, set intentions.

Tell yourself that I am going to do this

and I'm going to do that.

I'm going to listen to podcasts every morning.

I'm going to improve using the LRRC method,

there's a link in the description,

to help me with my speaking.

I'm going to work on my pronunciation,

and the sounds of English

so that I can speak more fluently.

And get very specific with this too.

Think about when you're going to do it

and how you're going to do it.

Set your intentions, set a daily learning plan

and then just focus on doing this plan on a daily basis

and enjoy the process.

Because again, if you just put too much focus

on the level you want to have,

then you're just going to feel unhappy.

You're not going to feel fulfilled.

And you're going to put that focus on

the level you currently don't have

and feel frustrated about where you currently are.

And another tip on this as well,

be grateful for the level you already have.

I think it's sometimes easy to forget

how much we have improved in whatever we're doing.

And in your case, how much you've improved your English

over the last year, two years, five years, 10 years.

Whatever it may be.

So, in summary, set your intentions.

Do things on a daily basis.

And use methods that work.

Methods such as listening to as much English as you can.

Methods such as going through a pronunciation tutorial

so that you can improve the way you speak.

And methods such as the LRRC method

so that you can improve your speaking and

copy native or proficient teachers.
