All right, in this week's English lesson, I'm going to teach you a simple rule that

will help you speak English fluently.

But before we dive into the lesson, I'm gonna have to be honest with you.

Yes, you.

I literally, before I hit record, was singing.

Because today the first part of our lesson is going to also include some

food references, and I literally was sitting at my desk saying, EY, ey baby.

I'm not lying to you.

So when you see some of the video clips, if you're watching this

lesson, you'll understand why.

Basically, I hope you enjoy today's lesson.

Let's jump right in.

All right, so the very first thing I want to explain to you is the fact that English

fluency involves supporting your answers.

The basic rule is provide enough support for your thoughts, ideas, and

opinions by giving three supporting details, reasons, or examples.

That's the simple rule.

Always give supporting details, reasons, or examples.

And the key number is three.

So on your screen, you see this question.

The question is, what's your favorite food?

Now, if you've been with me for a while, you already know the answer.

Who, baby?

I love Indian food.

I love Indian, Mexican, and many other types of food, but

I really love Indian food.

Now I just gave you a simple answer.

I love Indian food, but remember this right here is the simple rule of threes

that will help you speak English fluently.

I.

Giving three, supporting details, supporting reasons or examples.

So I wanna go through a few example responses to this question that use

this simple rule, and as you follow along, you'll see some beautiful

clips of some delicious food.

So check out this first response using the simple rules.

Because it's delicious, versatile, and easy to share with friends and family.

That was an amazing response.

But once again, what did it include?

You have the I L S exam and many other exams that you have to take.

A native English speaker learned when I was in high school.

any time of year, and there are so many different flavors to choose from.

You see that we are giving you more information following

I enjoy Thai food because of the spicy and flavorful curries noodles and soups.

It's pasta because it's comforting filling and can be made in so many different ways.

You're seeing how this simple rule of threes can transform your

responses, can make you sound more fluent, can make you sound more like

a native English speaker when you simply follow this rule of threes.

But what if someone asks you a different question, they're

not asking you about food.

Again, the same simple rule of threes.

Here's the question, what's your hobby?

Now?

I enjoy exercising, cycling, drawing, spending time with friends, and

maybe you have some similar hobbies.

So it's natural just to say, I enjoy dot, dot, dot.

But remember, we're talking about speaking English fluently

using the simple rule of threes.

My hobby is playing guitar because it's a creative outlet, helps me

relax and allows me to express myself.

You would get an a plus if you gave this response in my class when I was in Korea.

Students loved my classes and I love teaching them, but they also realized

it was not easy to pass my classes.

I smiled every day.

We had a great time in class.

But if your responses weren't sounding like this, you

weren't gonna pass my class.

All you have to do is apply the simple rule of threes.

This simple rule of threes is going to change your English simply by supporting

Now, something you are probably no noticing.

These responses are not all dot, dot, dot.

Sometimes when we respond in English, we mix things up a bit.

we have beautiful memories.

Things can be played around with, and you can say them in a creative way, but you're

still supporting your idea with three.

And even more examples, reasons, or details.

This is how you start speaking English fluently.

You might have a goal of being the c e O of a company, or maybe you

wanna be a doctor or maybe your main goal in life is to learn how to

speak English and travel the world.

But how can you apply the simple rule of threes to answer this question?

My main goal in life is to travel the world, experience different cultures.

And learn new things.

Amazing, simple, but amazing response.

Why?

Because this individual applied the rule of threes.

What about this one right here?

I want to make a positive impact on the world.

By helping others, volunteering and making a difference in people's lives.

This once again is a great response, applying the simple rule of threes

that you can start applying to, to speak English more fluently.

What about this one?

My main goal in life is to find a fulfilling career that allows

me to use my skills and passions to make a difference once again.

We're seeing that this response offers the same information to

support, but it's in a different way.

It's laid out differently, right?

Again, fulfilling career allows me to use my skills, allows me to use

my passions to make a difference.

You are providing us with enough information and this is how

you speak English fluently.

I want to start my own business and be my own boss so that I can have

more control over my life and work on something I'm passionate about.

Remember, we're talking about supporting your ideas by giving

more details, by giving more examples, and by giving more reasons.

Excellent response.

Why?

Because you've supported your idea.

It's all about using the simple rule of threes.

You can add on if you'd like, but remembering that the simple rule of threes

will help you speak English more fluently.

Today I want to tell you a little bit more about my time working at nasa.

I, as you know, am an early bird.

I normally wake up at around 4:00 AM If you are a member real quick.

Maybe you're not a member of this YouTube channel just yet.

Not a subscriber, but a member.

Because I have special videos for members only, they're called my

homies, and I actually am putting like a personal vlog together.

So when I go on trips, uh, when I'm at different things happening

in my life, only my homies will be able to see those videos.

And I recently talked about something I learned from going to exercise.

I get up at 4:00 AM and I had a workout at 5:00 AM So if you wanna check out

So going back now, I get up early.

I have always gotten up early, even when I was in school, back in

the day, so I still get up early.

I get up around four, but when I worked at nasa, they told me that I had the

option of choosing my work schedule.

There was a seven to 3:00 PM and eight to 4:00 PM nine to 5:00 PM or 10 to 6:00 PM.

Now, which one do you think I chose?

Ding dong.

Ding.

You got it.

I chose the 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM I said, well, I'm already up anyways.

Let me get into work and then I can also leave early.

3:00 PM is great.

So I started going at 7:00 AM Now at that time, No one really was in the office,

but myself and maybe one other guy.

So for like the first two hours of working, I was just in the office,

just myself and in the office behind me there was another gentleman.

So I'd get a lot of work done.

It was nice, very quiet.

It was an nice and environment kind of was like starting your

day off with a clear head.

I loved my coworkers though.

So anyways, I remember that I would, uh, come into work at 7:00 AM I ate

lunch at around 1130 or 12:00 PM After I ate lunch, I would take a short walk

and then 3:00 PM I was going home.

So it was great.

I got a lot of work done in the morning, and then afternoon flew by.

But I remember that I would leave work at 3:00 PM and Huntsville.

I worked in Huntsville, Alabama.

Right.

The military base connected to NASA that I worked on was only about 10

max 15 minutes from my apartment.

So I'd leave work at 3:00 PM and get home at around 3 15, 3 20 at the latest.

My friends didn't get off work until five or 5:30 PM so I'd get home,

take an hour to two hour nap, wake up at five or five 30, hang out with

friends, or do some other things in the apartment, cook dinner.

I felt like I was maximizing my time.

I loved my schedule.

So much so that I really didn't use any leave.

So each pay period, they gave us about three to six hours of leave.

Meaning if you needed to travel or go on vacation or if you got sick,

we had sick leave and regular leave.

I didn't really get sick at all, so I had a lot of hours

that were accumulating, right?

And they were just there.

So when I left nasa, right when I was about to leave nasa, they said,

Hey, you know you can use your hours.

I honestly must have had at least 30 to 50 hours.

They were like, yeah, but these are your hours and they're paid

hours, so take some sick days.

I was like, I'm not sick.

They're like, yeah, but you can still take a sick day.

So right before I left nasa, let's say two or three months leading up

to my time of leaving, I would take a day or two off each week, not sick,

just relaxing at home or organizing things, and I said to myself, man,

NASA's really a great place to work.

It was great.

Again, it was my time to leave.

God told me it was time to leave, and again, if I hadn't left, I

wouldn't be your English teacher.

But just thinking back to so many experiences, 7:00 AM to

3:00 PM working for someone else.

I work for myself now, but working for someone else, that

was the best schedule for me.

7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Came home, got a long nap, had a great meal, hung

out with friends, and I still.

Wasn't even looking at 9:00 PM just yet because I got off work so

early, so I loved that schedule.

Again, I enjoyed working at nasa.

Maybe you have a schedule that you love as well.
