We learned about simple past tense regular verbs.

- [Danny] Okay, then.

Today we'll learn about

simple past irregular verbs.

Remember, the simple past is used to talk about

a completed action in a time before now.

This is lesson two of simple past.

Be sure to watch part one first.

First, let's start with the verb be.

Be, becomes was or were for the past.

So how does it work?

Here's how to make a positive with was, were.

Use I, he, she, it.

For example, I was cold.

He was late.

She was at home.

It was sunny.

Use were with you, they, we.

You were tired.

They were late.

We were excited.

Now you try.

Say the sentences.

To make a negative with be, just add not.

I was not late.

He was not tired.

She was not sad.

It was not sunny.

They were not happy.

You were not at school.

We were not at home.

You try.

Say the sentences.

The short form was, were is, wasn't, weren't.

That's correct Ken.

You get a gold star.

Common irregular verbs.

Go becomes went.

Buy becomes bought.

Come, came.

Eat, ate.

Take, took.

Drive, drove.

Speak, spoke.

Teach, taught.

Write, wrote.

Choose, chose.

Hmm, those are some common past simple irregular verbs,

but there are many more.
