English Speaking Practice for Daily Use (Meeting people) Improve Speaking Skills

okay Jake you can do this you've been  in this company for almost a year and  

still nobody knows you you come to work do  your job and then leave without talking to

anyone that's why you don't have any  friends here but if you want to succeed

you have to change successful  people Network they make

connections you know this but why  does talking to people have to be so

terrifying look at them they're just talking  and laughing like it's the easiest thing in the

world why can't I do that I'm not a stupid  I know how to talk but every time I try my  

mind goes blank and I start sweating and then  if I manage to say something it always come  

out wrong they must think I'm weird or  something but tonight I have to try yeah  

I have to okay no more excuses I'm at this  event and I'm going to talk to at least one  

person tonight even if it kills me I'm going  to walk up to someone and say oh hi how are

you yeah that's a good start just keep  it simple Jake you can do this what's  

the worst that can happen Jake I'm glad to  see you here you don't usually come to these

events I was starting to think you  didn't like socializing good to see you

here oh hi Mr Anderson yeah I I  thought I should you know make  

an appearance it's important to be  seen right right well that's what I

think exactly it's good for you to get  to know your colleagues there are a good

bunch I know it can be a bit intimidating but  everyone here is friendly have you talked to  

anyone yet um not yet no but I was just  about to actually just you know getting  

ready to um socialize that's the spirit  don't worry too much about it just be

yourself I'm sure once you start talking  you'll see it's not so bad go on give it a  

try I'm rooting for you yeah you're right thank  you I think I will talk to those people over

sorry hi Jake I'm Ryan I work in marketing  we were just talking about the weekend

plans nice to meet you so what  do you like to do on weekends any

hobbies well I love playing soccer with some  friends from work we usually play every Saturday

morning we play in the mornings so  Jake what about you what do you like to

do um I like to read books and play video  games it's relaxing after a long week I'm  

not very good at soccer though that's okay  everyone has different interests I love to

paint it helps me relax what kind  of books do you like Jake Nobles

horror I like science fiction and mystery  books they are really exciting do you read a

lot yes I love reading I read science maybe  you can recommend a good science book for

me sure I can do that so um do you  have family nearby me just asking I  

have a sister who lives in the city not  too far from here we meet up sometimes  

for coffee or to go shopping how  about you Jake any family around

yeah um my parents live about an  hour away I visit them on some

weekends I'm an only child  though so no siblings I like

I handle the day-to-day running of the  office it involves a lot of planning

and making sure everything is running smoothly it  keeps me busy how about you do you enjoy working  

in it yeah I do I like solving problems and  helping people with their Tech issues you know  

it's satisfying when I can fix things  do you have any hobbies outside of work

Mark yeah I'm really into photography  I like taking pictures of Nature and

Landscapes it's relaxing for me what about you  do you have any hobbies outside of work Jake

I enjoy reading and playing video  games I like science fiction

books photography sounds interesting maybe  you can show me some of your pictures

sometime sure I'd like that I've got a few of  my photos on my phone if you want to see them

sometime sure of course and Mark  do you um do you have any family

nearby my family lives a bit far from here I  try to visit them when I can I have a younger

brother who's still in high  school he is terrible um how about

you my parents live about an hour away so I  visit them sometimes I'm an only child though  

so it's just me it's nice to have siblings I  bet you and your brother are close yeah we are  

it looks up to me so I try to set a good example  it's nice to have someone to share things with

tonight I'm impressed I've always  wanted to talk to you but you seemed so

quiet oh really I guess I don't talk much I'm  trying to change that it's not easy to start

conversations don't worry you're doing great  I think it's nice that you're trying so tell

me what do you like to do outside  of work can I ask you that or maybe

not sure well I like reading and um playing video

games mostly science fiction books  and mystery games uh how about

you I love reading to I'm into fantasy  novels I also like going to the

movies and trying new restaurants maybe you  can recommend some good sci-fi books for

me sure I'd be happy to there's this one book  Dune it's really good if you like science

fiction maybe we can exchange  book recommendations sometime

right that sounds like a great idea so Jake  do you have any any pets or family around  

here no pets my parents live about an hour  away so I visit them sometimes I'm an only

child I have a cat named Luna she's adorable  my family lives in another city so I don't  

see them often I'm really close with my  friends here though they're like my second

family that's nice it's good to have  people close to you so um what do you do in

marketing I work on social media campaigns and  content creation I really enjoyed it because it's

creative I always thought you seemed  like a helpful person you know Jake I've  

always thought you were kind of cute but I wasn't  sure if dude want to talk you seemed really

shy wow really I I didn't know I guess I'm a bit  shy I'm trying to be more open and talk to more

people good for you hey would you like to go  out for a coffee sometime I'd love to get to  

know you better are you kidding of course I  mean yes I'd like that a lot coffee sounds

great all right Shy Boy I will see you  around you're doing a great job take

care wow Emily thinks I'm cute and wants to go  out for a coffee I can't believe it if I hadn't  

come to this event I never would have talked  to her maybe being social isn't as scary as  

I thought I just need to be more open and not  miss out on opportunities like this talking to

people talking to people can lead to  good things like new friends and even a

date I guess it's true what they say nothing  changes if you don't step out of your comfort

zone or what do you think guys are you  good at socializing or not let me know
