Past Progressive (was/were doing) 👩‍🏫 Basic English Grammar

Hi everyone. It's Jennifer here from English with Jennifer. You know, not

everything that gets recorded makes it into a final lesson for YouTube. When I

film with Flavia and Andreia for the Basic English series, some examples and

practice tasks get cut, but practice and review are always useful. Right? So, I'm

going to share some more examples of the past progressive. These examples didn't

make it into the full lesson, but I'd like to share them with you, so you can

learn from them now.

What was I doing?

You was...you were sitting in...?

I was sitting in a place. I was sitting next to...next to the letters. ESL. The letters.

Because I'm JenniferESL. So, I was sitting next to big letters. Um, I was at a

conference, and a co-worker...colleague suggested, "Go sit there." I'm like, "Okay," so

I was sitting next to the letters and she took the photo. Yeah. This is at the

same conference. Can you guess where I was? This was in a park. Again, what was I

doing? You were...I don't know. But actually this is good because we have different positions of the body.

Right? Standing. Sitting. But here I'm on my knees. Do you know what we call that?

Kneeling. Kneeling? You take "knee"..."kneel"... "kneeling." You were kneeling. So, sitting,

standing, and kneeling. Using our knees. You were kneeling inside... Do you know

what those are? The games. Which games? Olympic. Olympic Games, so we call those Olympic

rings, just like the rings we wear on our fingers. Those are the Olympic rings, so,

"Jennifer, you were kneeling inside the Olympic rings." That's hard, I know, but now

you know sitting, standing, kneeling. Kneeling. You were kneeling inside the

Olympic rings. We'll try one more. This is my neighbor's dog. Aw. Just like the flag. Ah! Holding? Yeah.

You were holding a dog. A dog.

Do you know what kind of dog that is? Do you know the kind? Beagle? Yeah! Is it the same in

Portuguese? Yeah. Beagle. Now they have two beagles.

Aw. They're so cute. One is sort of like medium, and the other one is so

small. Yeah, so this is, um, one of them. I was holding the dog. I was holding the beagle.

What was my dog doing? She was playing in the snow. She was rolling around in the

snow. She was running around in the snow.

She was having fun in the snow. Here's a series of photos. What was I doing?

I was playing a game. If you're from Brazil, you know this game. I didn't know

about it until Flavia and Andreia told me about it. This won't be recorded. Guess what I bought?

Let me show you something. You're going to laugh.

Ah! Look what I bought.

Ah! Peteca! I found it.

On Amazon.

It was like...you told me in Brazil, petecas are like two dollars...one dollar. I paid, like, maybe 13. Oh!

But I wanted it, so I thought, "Okay."

It's good. It's nice. It doesn't break. I hit it. It falls. My children and I are trying. It's not easy. No.

It's funny. I bought a peteca. It's funny.
