BRITISH ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION (RP accent) - /ɪə/ vowel sound (here, career and clear)

So, let's get started

Today, we're going to talk about another diphthong

오늘은 또 다른 이중모음에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

And this diphthong is /ɪə/

그리고 이 이중모음은 /ɪə/

So if you don't remember from last class, a diphthong is

그래서 지난 수업에서 기억이 나지 않는다면, 이중모음은

a combination of two vowel sounds in the same syllable

같은 음절에 있는 두 개의 모음 소리의 조합입니다.

So you've got the /ɪ/

and the /ə/

/ɪə/

Now British people, especially in the slightly posher accents

약간 고급스러운 악센트

Will sometimes say (soft) /ɪə/ instead of (strong) /ɪə/

가끔 (강한) /ɪə/ 대신 (부드러운) /ɪə/라고 말할 것입니다.

So we will soften out the diphthong a little bit

그래서 우리는 이중 모음을 약간 부드럽게 할 것입니다.

So, let's talk about some words that are well-known

그래서 잘 알려진 단어에 대해 이야기합시다.

Firstly, we've got words with e and a

e와 a를 사용하여

So we've got appear, hear, near, clear, fear

우리는 나타나고, 듣고, 가깝고, 깨끗하고, 두려워합니다

Ok, I am speaking in a strong British accent

. 저는 강한 영국 억양으로 말하고 있습니다.

So I'm using a lot of air, it's very breathy

Then I have words with ee

그럼 ee

beer, career, volunteer

Then, I've got words with e r e

like atmosphere or severe

Sometimes, just the e alone is pronounced as /ɪə/

So period, or interior

or interior

But this is really posh

Even I don't say that, so I'd go period, interior

(soft) /ɪə/ rather than (hard) /ɪə/

And then we've got the ei such as weird, weird

Then we've got eo in things such as theory

We've also got ie such as fierce, cashier

우리는 또한 예를 들어 치열한, 출납원과 같은 것을 가지고 있습니다
