How to Learn English. Learning Tips for Beginners

Are you starting to learn  English now? Are you a beginner?  

I guess you are if you're watching this video.  Today I'm going to talk to you about how to learn  

English and I'll give you effective learning  tips for beginners. My name is Kate,  

I've learned English on my own and I've never  lived in any English speaking country. In this  

video I will share with you the tips that helped  me to improve my English from the very start. 

Let's begin with the first  tip. 1. Start with the basics. 

The basics are the most important and very simple  things. Do Not learn phrasal verbs and idioms if  

you don't know the basic vocabulary. Always start  with simple things. I know there are many channels  

where they teach you idioms, advanced grammar,  phrasal verbs, but please do NOT learn the  

complicated part if you haven’t studied the basic  part. Learn greetings, how to introduce yourself,  

how to describe something. Learn action words. Most common action words are: Read, write, dance,  

walk, think, cook, listen, touch, dream, run,  smell, feel, paint and many more. We use these  

words in everyday life. As a beginner you should  learn at least one hundred common English words. 

The next tip is 2. Make a plan of your study (in  your native language) Write it down, and follow  

it. It's always hard to start doing something,  to begin to do something. And making a study plan  

will help you. You set your goals, and every day  you check them up. For example, watching one short  

video a day. Of course, you can watch more if  you like. You can watch a lot of short videos on  

my channel. They are very helpful for beginners. Tip number 3. Watch simple English videos. I mean  

the simplest videos, for example, where they show  you an object and then tell you the name of this  

object. Or people ask and answer simple questions  like "What's your name? What's your favorite  

food?" and so on. So you start from Simple videos  and move on to more complex videos. If you don't  

understand every single word, it's ok. It's  normal. Understand the ideas and write down  

all new words. You should google up these words,  and that will help you enhance your vocabulary. 

When I started learning English, I  used to write down all new words.  

A good way to improve your English is to  review the words and read them out loud. 

The next tip is listen to simple English  songs, for example songs for kids. They  

are very easy to understand. You can simply  listen to the songs without taking any notes. 

Tip number 5 Practice out loud. This means  you should repeat words and sentences when  

you hear them. Repeat after native speakers.  Start with some simple sentences, and then,  

repeat more complicated ones. The more you repeat,  the better you speak. The more, the better.  

If you watch a video lesson on YouTube, turn on  subtitles. If you like watching short videos,  

watch them from 3 to 5 times and repeat phrases. The next tip is also very important - Start  

learning things that are interesting for you and  important for your life. Think about your life.  

What do you do every day? Do you go to  school? Probably. Do you read books?  

Do you have a shower? Learn this vocabulary  first. That will help you to talk about your life,  

your hobbies, and your daily routines. The next tip is - Learn most common grammar  

tenses. We spend a lot of time in English  class studying all the different verb tenses.  

Many students find it very difficult to learn all  12 tenses in English. So if you start learning  

English, use more simple tenses. The Simple  Present, The Simple Past and The Simple Future. 

I watch English lessons every  day. I watched this lesson  

yesterday. I will watch this lesson tomorrow. When you are Ok with using these tenses, then…  

learn the Present Continuous Tense and the  Present Perfect. I'm watching this lesson

to watch my video on tenses. The link is here. Let’s move on to the Tip number 7. Don't be  

afraid of grammar mistakes. Sometimes  beginners make mistakes, and it's OK.  

People will understand you even if you make some grammar mistakes. Don't try to be perfect.  

Communication is not about grammar. It's all about  expressing yourself. You can express yourself with  

simple words. Grammar is important but making  mistakes is fine. We all learn from our mistakes. 

And the last very important tip -  Improve your writing in English.  

Start writing a diary in English. Let it be  very simple sentences like Today is Friday.  

I woke up at 7 a.m. I had a shower and brushed my  teeth. I walked my dog. I made breakfast. And many  

different sentences like that. This will help  you memorize how to spell English words. You  

will train simple grammar structures. And by  using all these tips, I’ve told you before,  

you will step by step move on  to the next level of English.
