Blending Sounds Like Natives - American English Pronunciation Mini Boot Camp 2

Hi there, I'm Drew Badger the world

number 1 English Fluency Guide and in

this quick video we will continue with

our mini boot camp for pronunciation in

the first video in this series we talked

about the importance of producing

individual sounds correctly can you do

this by focusing on phonetics listening

to the sounds of words and then breaking

them down into their pieces if you can

master each of these pieces then you

begin to say the whole word correctly

but in this video what I'd like you to

do is take it a step further by learning

to blend the sounds of multiple words

together so let's take a look at a few

slang forms of words that native

speakers commonly use in their

conversations

the first one is tasked to I have to go

to the store i have to think in my head

before I speak I have to but instead of

pronouncing it as have to be pronounced

it normally and conversationally as

hafta hafta hafta again this is one of

those things where you learn the

pronunciation of the word just so you

understand it but in an actual

conversation really the rules are kind

of disappearing so we learn how to blend

things together just to say them more

quickly and more conversationally I have

to go I have to go I have to go I have

to go next

going to going to in a regular English

sentence going to is something perfectly

fine to say that native speakers will

often just say gonna gonna gonna gonna

so if you're planning on doing something

i'm going to see a movie tomorrow I'm

going to see a movie tomorrow

what are you going to do tomorrow what

are you going to do saturday night gonna

gonna

again we're taking going to but blending

it together in a conversational way

because this is really the fastest way

to say it gonna gonna next

similarly instead of want to we've got

wanna wanna wanna

what do you want to do for dinner what

do you want to do for dinner

so what do you want to do for dinner

becomes what do you want to do for

dinner wanna wanna wanna

and finally have got to become gotta

gotta we remove have completely and just

form got to in gotta gotta got up so

even we spell it with the tea but it

becomes more of a decent when you

pronounce it just because this is easier

to say you can even practice it yourself

and see gotta gotta gotta is harder to

say it takes more time and energy than

gotta gotta this is why tease often

become more of a decent when you're

speaking gotta gotta it's just easier to

say that way so this is the same thing

as have to I have to go I have to go I

have to go or you can say I gotta go

gotta go gotta go continue to look for

ways that you can combine words together

and think about what would be the

natural fast way to save them and when

you do this you will develop a better

sense for how to pronounce things more

like a native English speaker
