we are all together again hi everybody this is mr duncan in

england how are you today are you okay i hope so

are you happy i hope you are feeling ever so happy today because i'm

feeling happy because we are back together once

it lovely how has your week been have you had a good week has your week

gone as well as you wanted it to i hope so

we have a lot of things to talk about today

so many things we will also be doing something quite exciting today

i will tell you all about that in a few moments time

but of course we are all here today here again today even

for those who are wondering my my little tongue

is slowly healing but it is still unwell it's still painful but not

as painful as it was at the start of last week so last week when i

actually burnt my tongue on some very hot food

please don't ask me how i did it but i did it i

managed to do that and i i developed a large ulcer on my tongue

and it's taken me a very long time to get rid of it but it's still there

and it's still rather annoying however the good news is

it is not as painful as it was before for those who are wondering my

name is duncan i talk about the english language here on

youtube that is what i do that is the reason why

i am here with you that's what i do i talk about english i

talk about all sorts of subjects as we will be

doing today we will be talking about lots of

different subjects during today's live stream yes for those

who are wondering we are now coming to you live from the

birthplace of the english language which just

i am a silly sausage for those who are wondering i have not been lazy this week

i've been doing a lot of things this week i can't begin to tell you how

busy i have been for the past two days i have

been cleaning out my studio i've been making my studio

look all lovely in fact

on monday i took everything out of this studio

everything i had a big summer clean up i decided to clean out my studio and

there you can see just to prove it's exactly what i did

i had my studio clean for summer so some people have

their clean or maybe they clean their house or clean their room

during the spring time however i normally have

my clean out during the summer when i can open the windows

let in the fresh air and also quite often i

i find myself with a little bit of spare time

as well so there you can see my studio on monday i cleared the whole

studio out everything and you can see everything went

so you can now see what my studio looks like when there is nothing

in the actual room here is another angle for you

for those who are interested so there is another view

and you can see my studio is looking bare

but the big question is where did i put all of my equipment

mr duncan where is it where where is all your

equipment well for for one day in fact monday and also part of tuesday

i had to leave all of my studio equipment

in the dining room would you like to see it

so there it is that is what my studio looks like

when i'm having my big clean out and that's what i was doing on monday

and tuesday so i have been keeping myself rather

busy this week for those who think maybe

i'm doing nothing on monday and tuesday well guess what i have been ever so busy

cleaning out my studio and that is what i've been doing what about you

have you done anything exciting anything happened

this week anything nice happened monday tuesday anything you can share it right

here because of course we are a lovely

so here is the situation that i'm in at the moment i am in a very interesting

situation because one of my moderators here

on the live chat has decided to retire i won't say who but all i will say is

if i'm feeling generous of course i might

today mr duncan that is so exciting so helena has lots of other things to do

something that means you are given the opportunity you have the chance

do your dream job or maybe a certain job that you would love to do

there is an opportunity there is a chance

for you to do it oh we might also say opening as well if

there is an opening well we can say that there is

a chance or an opportunity an opening quite often in work so maybe if there

is a company that you've always wanted to work for

maybe there is a company that you would love

to work for we can say that there is an opening there is a position there is

something available that might help you

to succeed or to gain your dream job there is an opening in my company there

an opportune moment an opportune offer something that has

come along at the right time at the right

moment it is well timed it is opportune i like that one

take advantage of situations as they arise

sometimes you don't care how you do it you don't care how you get that thing

if you see something that you want see something that you want to

grab or take then opportunism is

the noun that describes that type of behavior

in my garden having a midnight feast i think that actually

that's i think they are sunflower hearts

in the garden so you can see the badger is taking an

to eat some food in my garden so you might describe this badger

as an opportunist the badger is eating some food in the garden

you might describe this animal as an opportunist

because at night it will wonder around looking for food to eat and there you

can see that badger is really enjoying the food

to be honest you are so lucky to be able to see a

killed because in certain areas there is an illness

that affects cows

bovine tuberculosis and the badger has been blamed

for that disease so in some parts of the uk

they are actually being killed in very large numbers we call it

are controlling the the killing of a certain creature

and there are a lot of people many people have become very angry

and upset at the killing of this particular creature

so a very controversial subject here in the uk

personally personally i think it's a it's a terrible idea

to be honest and there are of course vaccines available

for cattle to protect them from from that particular illness

i like this word this word can be used as a verb to push

one thing into another you might stuff something maybe your pet cat

or pet dog has died but you don't want to say goodbye so

instead you will have your animal stuffed

and preserved so maybe somewhere in your house

there is your your pet dog or pet cat who died many years ago

but it's still there because you had it stuffed

stuff we could also describe things around you your general items your

belongings the things you own can be described as

stuff things the items that you have around you things

so things once more is a very general term

things are augments items things that you have

things that you own things that belong to you things that belong

to someone else things belonging

we also have oh here's another word we can use

as well and this is the word i just mentioned we can have belongings

so your things your things are your belongings they are the things

that belong to you the things you own the things

that belong to you are your belongings that word

describes everything everything you own we also have

oh here's a good one now this is what i'm talking about today you see

where do you put your stuff sometimes we have things that we don't need anymore

or things we don't use anymore we describe it as

junk junk so anything that has no use or maybe something that

used to be useful it used to be something that you would

use but now you don't need it anymore maybe you

you have updated something maybe your old phone so perhaps you have

maybe you have an old phone that you don't need anymore so you

throw it away you might say it's junk this phone is now

junk i don't need it anymore maybe it doesn't work maybe it has

stopped functioning maybe it has broken

so it will automatically become junk something that you no longer use

something you no longer need something that no longer

functions or works is junk junk

here's another word ah we might say the things that you

own or the things that you have around you

have been accumulated accumulated so accumulated

items are the things that you have gathered

the things that you have collected over the years

maybe in your in your bedroom you have lots of

clothes you have accumulated lots of clothing

so as a mass noun we might say that the accumulated items are the things

they are the things that you own they have been

accumulated over the years collected gathered

bought maybe sometimes a person might give you a gift

maybe a gift for your birthday but unfortunately you don't want it or

you don't need it so you just put it away somewhere you

hide it away and you hope that they never find out

i think somewhere in your house there is something that

you've never used you've bought it but you've never used

i normally sell them at a second hand shop so there are shops around

that will buy your items and then sell them to someone else

yes you're right feel as if i'm going to sneeze by the

way if i sneeze please forgive me

so that's a good that's a good idea yes if you have things that you no longer

need things that you no longer use you can

sell them to a second-hand shop

or used goods used goods so not just things that are

unused but also things that have been used yes a good point

very good something that you no longer need

or something that you no longer use we can say that it is

surplus to your needs surplus you no longer need it

longer serves a purpose when we talk about purpose

here's an interesting word in fact there are two words here we have the word

clutter and mess so these words have very similar

meanings clutter refers to having lots of things

around you clutter so maybe in your room

you have lots of things lots of things around you

you have lots of belongings lots of stuff lots of things

we describe that situation as having clutter clutter so clutter

can also be used as a verb and also as a noun

you clutter your room you put lots and lots of things into your room and maybe

many of those things are useless or things that you don't

need you clutter your room

your room becomes full of clutter clutter

and of course when you have a lot of a lot of clutter you also have

a mess as well clutter mess lots of things lying around

lots of things that may or may not be useful here's another word

ah sometimes we have to make a decision with our items

or our belongings the things we have the things we own

the things we keep sometimes you have to make a decision shall i

keep this or shall i throw it away keep

throw keep throw so there is the choice that most
