10 Prepositions in 2 Minutes | English Expressions

Today we are looking at ten super useful prepositions in two minutes and this time I'm going to do it.

So here's the plan. I'm going to teach you ten phrases with prepositions that are super

useful. They describe where you are. They are so natural, you're going to love using

them in your English. Now I'm going to do it all in two minutes. So, let's get going.

Number one, to work from home. If you work from home that means you don't go to the office

to work, you do it at home or you might be in a cafe or something like that. WFH, that's

the acronym that we use. Number two a day off. A day off is a day when you are not doing

what you usually do so work or school. You have the freedom to do whatever you want.

'I've got a day off on Wednesday so I'm going to the seaside.' Number three off sick. If

you are off sick you are not at your usual place so school or work or University because

you are ill. 'Where's John today? Oh he's off sick.' Number four on the way. If you

are on the way it means you are about to arrive wherever you are going. So 'We're on our way,

we'll be there in ten minutes' means we're in progress, we're travelling, we're going

to arrive soon. How are we doing for time? Ok, quick, let's go. Number five, away from

your desk. If you are away from your desk you are not at your desk. So you might write

in an email 'Sorry guys, I'm away from my desk all afternoon.' and that means I'm not

at my desk. A similar idea to be out. This means you are not in the location. 'Is Simon

there? Sorry Simon is out right now. Can I take a message?' And that means Simon is not

in the location. The opposite of that is to be in. 'Come round anytime, I'll be in all

afternoon.' That means I'll be at this location all afternoon. Number eight is a phrasal verb

to pop in. The verb to pop is to visit quickly to go quickly. So if you pop in then you go

somewhere quickly. So you are in and out. So 'I'm just going to pop in to the shop.'

It means I'm going to go into the shop and then come out very quickly. Number nine to

pop out. So that means to leave and go somewhere quickly and come back. 'Is Sarah there?' 'Sorry,

she's just popped out.' Not up yet. If you are not up yet, you are still in bed. So for

example 'Where is everybody?''No one's up yet, they are all still in bed.'

Alright, so those are ten phrases with prepositions in that are super useful. They are so natural

and if you include them in your every day English, yeah you'll sound way more natural.
